Anyone had some time with the actual game? I'm positive today was the release date and wanted some hands on impressions from real people not some gimps at a California cubicle before I went out and bought it.

I won't be having any impressions of this until the demo drops. I think it might be next in my rental queue though.

I really want a new game and I was tempted to get this. I think I will just hold out for Forza 2 and then the Darkness though.

If I had $60 burning a whole in my pocket this week I'd probably bite.. but I'm not terribly excited about this one. I think it has potential, so I'll keep my eye on it. I think I'll mail back two of my rentals today in hopes of eventually seeing this in my mailbox.

What's with this game's silent launch? I haven't heard ANYTHING about Shadowrun lately; I didn't even know it was out today until I went looking for Forza 2. Bad sign?

Well it's not a good sign.. but that doesn't mean much to me yet. It does seem like they're holding back reviews for one reason or another though. Not encouraging but I'll just wait and see how it turns out.

I really think Team Fortress 2 is what most people who want an online only multiplayer game are waiting for.

Basing on Beta build hands-on previews the game is actually good, but what a bunch of people are sitting at Microsoft;
-first they approved a Shadowrun-based online only multiplayer FPS with quirk design (but I actually like it) and deep core gameplay (steep learning curve)
-they hyped mainly for its pointless crossplatform multiplayer feature
-they realised it's not hot for gaming population
-they decided to completely drop marketing, they are not even releasing trailers and gameplay videos that could be posted completely for free on most gaming websites
-they priced it at 60$, which is too much for 9 maps
-they released it during Halo 3 public Beta tests
-they released no demo for PC version

They literally sent the game to die and now they are closing FASA (according to rumours). They could have made Crimson Skies 2 or Shadowrun RPG instead and everything would be fine.:/

I wouldn't assume that much.. I think it looks like a pretty deep team game. I'm certainly interested in that. But you guys are more or less right about it not being a good sign.

I really want TF2.. but I'm really waiting for Quake Wars, Frontlines, UT3, and a couple of other online only shooters too. There's nothing wrong with multiplayer only games. I've played them more than games with campaigns, that's for sure. This game could have been $10 cheaper though. I'm certainly not paying $60 for it, even though I intend on playing it.

I hope they don't close FASA. They're not the worlds greatest developer.. but I sure would love to see Crimson Skies 2.

yeah, i totally agree with you there, MS blew it. I think this game was so rushed, bound to fail, which is sad, cos i see mad potential to it for a proper remake.

I know most games cost more on the PC, but theres just something that makes it more annoying with this game. I think its the fact that they have been blowing the cross platform horn. After hearing there is only 9 maps there is absolutely no way im paying full price for this.

Most games cost more on the PC? I'm confused. 360 games are generally at least $10 more expensive than PC games. The PC version of Shadowrun will probably be $30 in a month.

I'm not very interested in the PC version though.. they've done so much to gimp the mouse and keyboard that I'd rather just play it on a console at that point.

totally agree, there is a pinfull lack of propper objective based multiplayer games/modes. i want my enemy territory experience where im escorting a tank over a bridge to a fuel depot and dynamiting their fuel supply...or trying to destroy the tank, destroy the bridge, and overall stop the fuel supply being blown up (classic enemy territory stage right there)

i've outgrown deathmatch and CTF type modes since we've played it a billion times in a million other games. its BORING.

Wow, music is quite cool. Also, there's an advertisment on XY main site.:D

I agree with you, Wolfentstein: Enemy Territory is one of my favorite FPS ever. Although I wanted to go back to the game in late 2005 or so and got my ass kicked on regular basis.:(

I'm not totally bored w/ older game types, but yea.. I'm looking for a deeper multiplayer experience overall. Which is actually one of the reasons I think Shadowrun looks pretty interesting.

9 maps... ahahhaa. Honestly, 9 maps is barely cutting it if it DID have a single player component. You'd better double that number if you want to sell a multiplayer only game at full price. (IMO)

Some positive feedback once they break through all the obvious shortcomings -- which there are a lot. Seems like a good idea & implimentation got mired in poor tech and art, few features, some poor design decisions that may turn people off, and too little content. It doesn't help it was released side by side FM2 and is Vista only on the PC side... and MS has not talked about it much at all. DOA. Maybe the gameplay mechanics can be picked up by others though as I must say the actual mechanics and gameplay sound like they have evolved the genre some other than being another Quake/Halo/CS clone.

The fans have spoken. Concerning the graphics of the Halo 3 Beta: "There's so many little effects and things going on that make this game pretty much 2nd only to Gears at the moment."
