2007-06-07 15:42:59 We had a (sorta, except for some trouble makers) a nice Shadowrun thread going.. way to start another one! Guess this is the place for demo impressions now. Shadowrun Demo FAQ - Updated 05 June 07 Q: Are you doing a demo for both 360 and Vista? A: We're definitely doing a 360 downloadable demo. We haven't announced a Vista one. Q: When will the demo come out? A: 07 June 07 at 2am PDT. How's that for specific? Q: What features will be in the demo? A: We want to give players a good sense of what makes Shadowrun different / fun, but we can't give away everything, of course. The feature set we're offering is limited, but there are no time restrictions on the demo. Here's what you get: * Training: Chapters 1, 2, and 3 * Solo Match and Public Match (so both bot play and multiplayer) * One map: Power Station (which means only one game type: Raid) * Two races: Elf and Human * Magic: Tree of Life, Resurrect, Gust, and Teleport * Tech: Glider, Enhanced Vision, and Smartlink * Weapons: Pistol, SMG, Rifle, Shotgun, Katana, and Sniper Rifle Q: Will the demo be playable outside of the US? A: Yes! US, Canada, Mexico, much of Europe, and even some parts of Asia. And it is localized. We think Shadowrun sounds really cool in Chinese, especially. Q: How long will the demo be available? A: We don't have an expiration date at the moment. We'll update when we have one. Q: I have a question that's not covered here. What do I do? A: Post on the forums. If the question hasn't been answered already, we'll try to cover it. |

2007-06-07 18:09:07 Decent demo.. just finished the tutorials. I'll put some more time into it in a bit, maybe try to get a party started. I don't like how they teased you with an extra bit of magic during the tutorial. Evil. |

2007-06-07 19:15:10 In reply to GriftGFX (2007-06-07 19:13:22) Posted by GriftGFX I am enjoying it though.. more so now that I got a handle on what magic/tech I want to use in the demo. I'm not really digging the glider much. It's all about teleport. You can scale the level in seconds. --- |

2007-06-07 19:18:15 Why can't there be mouse and keyboard support? It is for PC too so shouldn't be hard to include to fps and strategy games. :( --- |

2007-06-07 19:33:47 Its weird that a person who played Shadowrun owned all the PC gamers without they even knowing who was using the controller. --- |

2007-06-07 19:46:46 Well for me Keyboard and mouse are much better. Can you really relax playing fps games on pad :P I just end up cursing all the time. Well not really but I am not enjoying it much. --- |

2007-06-07 19:51:00 It's not weird at all. It's already been mentioned previously in this thread.. game pad users get a ton of auto-aim and other aiming aids to balance that all out. I literally have better accuracy in Shadowrun when I aim less. Now that's weird. |

I literally have better accuracy in Shadowrun when I aim less. Now that's weird. It's not all about the mouse either.. keyboards allow for more dynamic movement. Sure, you might not have analog movement, but that's more than made up for by the speed at which you can change your inputs, and the fact that you have the ability to go for more simultaneous inputs than you possibly could on a game pad. You can prefer the joy pad all you want.. but it will never be better than a mouse and keyboard. I'm not complaining about the game though.. I dig it so far. And it wouldn't be right to complain about the aiming aids.. unless you're just going on a console FPS rant :) |

2007-06-07 20:11:56 In reply to TheBeagle (2007-06-07 19:57:32) Posted by TheBeagle Have you been using smartlink ? Without that I cant say the auto-aim us any worse than any other FPS on the 360. With smartlink is a different story. It basically locks onto targets. |

2007-06-07 20:20:30 I really like Shadow Run. I played the first training mission and had a blast. First training mission I've ever enjoyed in a game. I'll play the demo a bit more and see how I like it. --- |

2007-06-07 20:30:09 Nice to see some people enjoying the game. Me and a friend managed to get a good team together and were owning last night. Was best fun I've had online in some time. |

2007-06-07 22:53:19 Just what I thought about the KB/MS PR... "Gamepad is as good, even better, than a mouse!... [because we add a ton of hacks and user assists to take the skill out of the game]" PC FPS can be even easier when you have auto aim and magnatism assists as well. I don't mind an FPS designing for a gamepad -- non-linear rotation, time based panning acceleration, non-1:1 X:Y movement relationship, etc. This is called, "Designing to your platform". But auto-aim (hit the enemy even when your cross hair isn't on them) and magnatism (the closer you get your crosshair, the more attraction to draw your crosshair to the enemy becomes) and camera adhesion (once on an enemy the crosshair tends to stick to the enemy) are hacks, user assists, one may even say "cheats". Hence a number of FPS, even on the consoles (like TimeSplitters2) gives you a choice to disable these cheats. --- |

2007-06-07 23:03:38 Whether you're waging war with 10.000 troops or combat eachother with rock paper scissors, it's fair game as long as everyone is stuck with the same method. --- |

2007-06-07 23:26:25 Whether you're waging war with 10.000 troops or combat eachother with rock paper scissors, it's fair game as long as everyone is stuck with the same method. What's next.. I can't use my arcade stick or my force feedback wheel? Yea yea.. not the same, right? Why? Not that MS would ever make such a move anyway.. not when there are $120 peripherals to be sold! At least with the comparably crazy auto aim, PC players have the option of turning to a standard 360 pad if they want the same treatment. Nevertheless, I think it's a bit unfair to diminish the skills of a Halo player on the Xbox to a "cheat". Turning off auto aim doesn't make him a better person unless the opponents he's facing don't have the option of having them on in the first place. Complaining about the lack of proper FPS control on the 360 is totally valid. Notice though.. I still play Halo, and I'm enjoying the hell out of Shadowrun.. I just think they'd be greatly enhanced by the option. |

2007-06-07 23:41:13 Not everyone has their 360 connected to a monitor on a desk. Using mouse and keyboard from a fucking sofa isn't really ideal you know, and having to redecorate your entire gaming setup just to have some flat surfaces to put them on on isn't something people should have to do. --- |
| TheBeagle Since 1143 Days |
2007-06-07 23:43:30 They'd be enhanced, but who here bought a 360 without knowing that they would have to use a gamepad ? |
