2007-06-11 21:40:20 YES!!! Prince of Persia Classic for 800MP It was rumored all over the web last week, but today Microsoft has confirmed that this Wednesday's Xbox Live Arcade title will be Prince of Persia Classic, a remake of the original PC platformer of choice that was itself used as a basis for the more modern Prince of Persia series from Ubisoft that we all know and love. What's this old game on XBLA have to offer that other old games on XBLA don't? Well, for starters, it's a bit more akin to last week's Pac-Man Championship Edition. The graphics have been totally redone without hampering the joy of playing it, unlike some XBLA releases (we're looking at you, Frogger). Along with that, the GameLoft guys have added in all-new traps, puzzles, and enemies, plus the requisite twelve achievements. Some achievements that have been revealed include finding the sword in the first level (psh, the ease) and finishing the game without dying (aw hell). There will also be three leaderboards in the game that are sort of iterations on each other. Normal mode has you beating the game as fast as possible with saves after every level, time attack mode is the same without said saves (as in, start from the beginning of the game if you blow your time limit), and survival mode taunts players to complete in the fastest time possible without dying. Apparently they really want players to stop dying so much. Prince of Persia Classic will be available on Xbox Live Arcade on Wednesday, June 13th at 1 A.M. PDT for 800 Microsoft points ($10). Still.. classic looks like a nice upgrade. I just can't imagine buying a game that I've finished dozens of times already.. considering that it's only an hour long. Shame too.. I would love to play it. But Pac-Man CE is more of a new game than this is. |

I'm still considering POP classic.. but the length is really putting me off. This is a great game, but it's one that I've played soo many times now.. and beaten in one sitting just about every time. $10 seems like a lot for what is essentially just a fresh coat of paint. I thought classic releases were supposed to be 400 points anyway? Said it before.. Pac-Man CE is more of a new title than this :P |

Impressive even, for a game that relies on an older shader model. I'm enjoying the game more than Legend so far. And that game was pretty solid too :) I'm still considering POP classic.. but the length is really putting me off. This is a great game, but it's one that I've played soo many times now.. and beaten in one sitting just about every time. $10 seems like a lot for what is essentially just a fresh coat of paint. 2007-06-12 18:31:34 I played the PC demo of TRA and frankly I didn't like it. Graphics were nice, it runs at 60 fps with everything on maximum settings et all, controls with 360 pad are great, but frankly I replayed TR1 after the demo and I like the old game more. --- |

I'll have some exams next two weeks, so I'll pick PoP Classic in July. It seems worth these 800 points. the game isnt supposed to be re-inventing the formula and believe it never tries to and I think this is what makes it a brillaint game. sure it's no God of War when it comes to production values but a brilliant game all around I thought. --- |

Pure platforming goodness. At least replaying TR1 is playing a different game than Anniversary. This is the same old hat, with some new characters thrown in. This is the first classic to retail at 800 points -- it's one hour long -- and people were expecting it to cost more! That's silly. |

2007-06-12 18:55:28 Heh I never finished original PoP, way too hard for me. Classic seems more accessible with checkpoint system. Plus it should be quite fun with online leaderboards and ghost mode (I love it in racers). And I LOVE Sands of Time artstyle. --- |

In TR1 the music suddenly became more dynamic and wow this huge T-Rex comes out from the fog. That was really something. To be honest, my memory of TR1 has faded quite a bit. The T-Rex was a surprise again for me.. I also think the atmosphere is pretty decent. I mean it's better than that of TR1/2.. just thanks to the overhaul the graphics have received. I wish there was more new stuff like Cloning Clyde on Live Arcade rather than all these remakes, though. |
