After reading the latest mangas I'd even buy a terrible Naruto game I'm that hungry for a Naruto game right now.

Going to buy myself a gamecube and rebuy myself another ps2 (since the new one I bought I gave to another cousin) and get all those naruto fighting games.

this loooks better and better every time i see it. apparently it's released the same day as gta IV, so i'll be buying BOTH games.

i just really hope they get the original japanese voice cast in.

That statement confuses me. So they deserve higher scores, even though it's only fanboyism that drives you to play them? This game has a much higher chance of turning into something.. playable :)

I'm trying to say sometimes its hard for someone who isn't a fan of the series to appreciate just how good or true to the source material a Naruto game might be. If it captures the feel etc.

Those DBZ budokai games are like a dbz fan's dream, but most people look down on them for a number of reasons. To a fan its a killer app.

Sound like they're being properly reviewed to me. If anything, fans of the series shouldn't review games like this, because they have an obvious bias. Being true to a source doesn't make a good game.

On the other hand, fans will want to know about those little details, so maybe there's something to be said for fan driven reviews.. but I still think that's a crappy way to rate a game. If a game only appeals to fans of a specific anime series, it's probably not a good game.

Its only fun because its true to the source material. I'm not speaking just in terms of visual design and art here. I'm speaking in terms of crucial design decisions that end up impacting the feel of the game. Non fans of a specific anime series or those without proper knowledge of it couldn't possibly begin to understand or appreciate what is done right from what isn't most of the time which is why I say certain titles don't get what they truly deserve in reviews nor with the general gaming public.

I once saw a game review compare a Naruto fighting game to Streetfighter Third Strike....

The Naruto(or any Anime to that matter) games are normally fun for the fans, but about average-below average for anyone else. The reviews normally seem spot on to me. But yeah, if they're a fighting game or whatever, then they should be compared to other games in the genre. It shouldn't get special treatment because it's based off an "Anime".

Fans will normally buy the game despite the reviews, so I don't get why you have a big deal about it. If you enjoy the game, then that's all that should matter in the end.

yeah it is. The gameplay is hardly anything to brag about. I mean the combat is pretty shallow, and limited. The only real buy factor is the updated character roster, and moves. I've had the original Japanese game for a few years now, and have played the US version. I enjoy playing it with my friends, but if I had to rate it, I would probably give it a round a 6-7. Of course, that's my opinion.

Me being a Naruto fan(sort of now) I expect a lot more from them, especially with the sequels. So far, Ubisoft seems to be the first one that is actually trying to make a "good game", not a "quick cash" game that hardly improves over its predecessors. .
