2007-07-07 19:37:58 It does look fun, but these kind of games always leave much doubt. You can make nice trailers, but without actual gameplay sequences (and I mean more than 3 seconds), it's hard to tell what this game will turn out like. Besides, MP games like this always tend to break while actually playing by having overpowered vehicles/weapons, bad spawn points, terrible bugs, several exploits, etc etc. But most importantly is the gun game, which I haven't seen much of, I'd say that's fundamental of ANY shooter. |

2007-07-07 19:46:37 If you're a BF fan it's really not that hard at all.. and when the only other vehicle heavy team shooter on the horizon worth mentioning is ETQW, it's not hard to imagine that there are many people who will enjoy the gun play in this game a lot more -- assuming it's more slow and methodical ala BF2 than run and gun, like Enemy Territory. |

2007-07-14 02:45:59 In reply to GriftGFX (2007-07-14 02:42:52) Posted by GriftGFX bump! show floor demo: 1up preview: http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3161039 It's a little rough -- and they're obviously demoing the console version. But I figured I'd share for the few other people actually interested. Keep in mind that while they're playing a single player mission, this is essentially a multiplayer game. They look decent, but I have a feeling the campaign is rather.. tacked on. Six more months of polish and I hope this is really special. --- |

2007-07-14 03:31:30 ^^ uh, okay. Posted by KAOS I'm pretty sure this video was taken from 360 which still has some streaming bugs so what your seeing there isnt always the proper texture resolution.. dont worry this stuff will be worked out before release BTW -- the guy running the demo sucks at joypad control. |

2007-08-02 00:10:02 I see this getting overlooked by many a console user, maybe because it's not as accessible as some games, maybe because it's just coming at a time when the genre is relatively crowded.. but I think (hope) that it garners enough attention to pick up a serious community on the console side of things. |

2007-08-02 00:18:32 Personally I am kind of concerned about the gameplay... I was expecting a DC/BF2 "extension, evolution, and refinement" and this has a lot of... gimmicks. I think Trauma/KAOS rocks, but the RC cars and drones, while cool looking and should be a blast to control, seem cheap. I worry they may break infantry and vehicular combat rock-paper-scissors. Also, did he say [in that horrible interview... what a lame lady] that he said 32+? --- |

Also, did he say [in that horrible interview... what a lame lady] that he said 32+? Posted by deftangel The Live trailer for this was very well done. Seems whatever original stuff THQ put out lately it's generally pretty high quality. No nothing about the game, I should learn more. KAOS was formed primarily of members of the mod community, who crafted the total conversion, "Desert Combat" for Battlefield 2. DICE hired KAOS (previously Trauma) and they became their NY branch. While working for DICE, they were responsible for some of the development and testing of BF2, which took place in Desert Combat, before moving to the BF2 engine. After the release of BF2, DICE let them go, claiming that their offices were redundant with their own. Now some information on the actual game design. Posted by Classes CLASSES First, pick your weapon loadouts. ASSAULT All-purpose fighter with assault rifle, grenade launcher, pistol, and grenades. HEAVY ASSAULT Goon that hauls machine guns. SNIPER The camper: Aside from a high-powered rifle, you get proximity mines--the perfect interloper deterrent. ANTITANK Loaded with rocket launchers and land mines. SPECIAL OPS This stealth-tastic soldier uses silenced weapons and smoke grenades. CLOSE COMBAT Have Shotty, will travel. Posted by Rolls ROLES Now pick your specialist job--and level it up in battle with XP. ADRONE TECH Go on the tactical offensive with your robot army! Send out a recon drone to park over areas or arm assault units with rockets. Each side has unique approaches. The Western Alliance focuses on stealthy high-tech devices (its Rank-3 drone pthunks out mortar shells), while the Red Star army uses what amounts to lethally modded remote-control toys. AIRSTRIKE For the less subtle blitzkrieg, start with an airstrike. Rank 2 calls in a gunship to clear an area. Rank 3? We're talking cluster bombs or, in the case of the Red Star, the Fuel Air Bomb. Oh, and in the singleplayer game, you'll be able to drop a tactical nuke. Nice. GROUND TECH This is the all-inclusive support role, capable of healing, repairing, and setting up strong defenses. Erect machine-gun emplacements or mounted antitank rail guns for anyone to use. Repair vehicles and patch up people. So go on, lend a hand. Just remember that the adrenaline shot revives people and it's a handy way to give live foes a heart attack. COUNTERMEASURES This tactical defensive skill lets you take out drones with EMP grenades, disable vehicles by using an EMP rocket, or call in an EMP pulse bomb that'll short out a city block. Tactical tip du jour: Fire an EMP rocket near a chopper. When it flails about defenselessly, follow up with a rocket, then just wait for 'em to say, "Wha happun?" DeLise says that back in the Battlefield 2 days, "We'd build stuff in and then playtest twice a week. Then we'd put in a huge new feature in two days, like [BF2's] commander mode. So we'd build it, zip it, send it to Stockholm, play it. It was insane that we had all those things done in six months." The big lesson they learned-- beyond how overrated sleep is--was iteration. "We'll make a game look like crap at first and play the hell out of it. The result is a tight game that plays well and will eventually look great when done. That's just the way it should be-- gameplay first." Posted by Leveling_Up As I flip through my different combat role options, DeLise turns and says, "The whole idea of a ranking system [as in BF2] is broken. It rewards players that jump in early and perfect game tactics with added abilities while it punishes people that start playing late in the game's life cycle." That's not the case here. Like in Enemy Territory, ranks gained in one mission reset with the next match. After all, it's only fair to start a multiplayer game on equal footing. DeLise is still hoping to get a few more things into the game before its release. "Like intelligent in-game VOIP," he says. "If you get into a tank, the game creates a shared space so that, even if you aren't in the same squad, you can quickly speak with each other." Most of the other "to-dos" fall squarely in the postrelease content pile. "We're definitely big fans of the community," he continues, "and don't plan to nickel and dime 'em for extras. I can't promise that we won't charge for everything, but as a gamer, I feel that there is stuff that we need to do." Maybe a couple free maps, a couple weapons--something to give back to the fans. "Look at the Battlefield expansion packs. A $30 expansion with a bunch of good extra content makes sense. If it brings something new to the table, great. But a $10 booster with a couple 'eh' additions is only going to piss people off." Translation: Publishers should be giving that stuff away free. It's only going to help grow the community and, according to DeLise, "you're going to make your money by selling more games." If you want to read the whole preview, it may be old, but it's still among the most informative articles on this game yet: http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?pager.offset=0&c... They should be giving me free swag for pimping their game ;P |

2007-08-13 05:36:37 Posted by Intro We really were treated to a spectacle this evening. THQ gave us an exclusive preview of one of their upcoming titles – Frontlines: Fuel of War. And what a treat it was… Set in the post-oil world twenty years in the future, Frontlines is an intense new FPS where two rival factions fight for the final remaining drops of oil on the planet. With some stunning graphics, exhilarating open landscapes and some funky futuristic weaponry there is a lot of fun in store for us all. Posted by Multiplayer For the final part of our preview we checked out the multiplayer mode of the game. Each player can select a loadout of 6 different weapon classes followed by a role to specialise in. Quickly you can see the vastly different configurations everyone can have making each game quite unique. Again we saw the devastation that can be caused from the drones and air strikes that come falling into the battlefield. It’s hard to describe the intensity and atmosphere this game brings. With both single and multiplayer modes this game is set to be one of the most exciting new games on the horizon. Make sure you keep an eye on it over the next few months and pick up a copy for the PC, Xbox 360 or the PS3 when it gets released next year! |
