Having played the demo several times now, i just cant believe how much better and tactical the combat in heavenly sword is compared to God of War. The counter and combo system is ingenious.

The cut scenes in the game are amazingly detailed and lifelike as well.

I only played the demo but i already prefer it to God of War.

Or am i alone in thinking this...

Not alone. I've not played a whole lot of God of War but I'm buying a PS3 for Heavenly Sword. It jumped out and grabbed my attention in 5 minutes whereas despite spending an hour or so with GOW I appreciated but didn't feel compelled to play it.

Very subjective of course...

Well I am about to buy a Mixed bundle of PS3 with Motorstorm+Fall of Man-extra sixaxis controller today or tomorrow, and ONE of my main reasons that I am buying a PS3 while having a 360 is Heavenly Sword, along with other fantasy games like God of War and Lair.

I haven't played HS or God of War but I had NG Black so I somewhat know what to expect, so I can't wait to download the HS demo and then buy the full game once its out.

I am sure that PS3 will have a lot of fantasy action/adventure games in the future, just look at PS2's game library.

My PS3 literally just arrived from Amazon and after the update I'll be grabbing Heavenly Sword first :P

Resistance and Motorstorm can wait!

I for one am gonna trade in Motorstorm to Genji Days of the Blade (my mind is set). And then trade Gears of War Collectors and maybe Rainbow Six Vegas against Ninja Gaiden Sigma on PS3.

Although I owned NG Black, I am a NG fan so I HAVE to have one until NG 2. And luckily me, NG Sigma is the closest version to next-gen NG :P

Why compare? there is no reason to compare anyways. both are unique to their own good, which is very good.
Just because both main characters have the same kind weapons and it somewhat plays the same, it doesn't mean we should compare about what game is better at what and what not.

I definitely can't say I agree with that at all. I've only played a 5min demo of Heavenly Sword, but from the moment I fought the Hydra, and the Colossus in the GOW demos, I was hooked. And those fights started about 5mins in.

I say not even close.

I think God of War has it beat overall. The combat may not be as deep, but God of War to me. You think Heavenly Sword's cutscenes look good wait till you see next gen God of War 3 :)

I also think the voice acting is better done in god of war and God of War seems to have a better taste for true spectacle as opposed to the cheesy kind.

I will reserve my judgement until I play the full game. Besides I think a fair comparison can be made when we get God of War III for the PS3.

Alimo that is if we will be comparing visuals, because i doubt the gameplay will change on God of War 3 because people love the gameplay aspect of it.

The VERY bad thing is that tomorrow when I get my PS3 I want to get God of War 1 and 2, but because I live in EU the damn BC list for PS2 games on PS3, God of War 2 isn't listed.

I wont buy neither until I see a BC for God of War 2, but God of War 1 is on the list so thats "go".

By the visuals I have seen on God of War 2 on a PS2 its crazy, so there is no doubt God of War 3 will look one of the best on PS3 when it comes out, it just feels right.

As for Heavenly Sword...can't wait for tomorrow to play it!

I didnt mean just the visuals, it's simply unfair to compare the animations, the A.I, the number of enemies on screen, the scale of levels etc .... even with the unfair advantage here, IMO, the scale tips in favor of God of War for me. The franchise has just wowed me like no other game has wowed me before. The Intro boss fight in God of War II is just F****** Mind Blowing.

I know what you mean with regard to BC, it really sucks. I still have my PS2 and I do play God of War quite often. hopefully by the time I get a PS3, GodOW II will be backward compatible / fingers crossed. Right now I am salivating for Ninja Gaiden Sigma just like you said, it's the closest thing to NG2. I could replay the damn game for god knows how many times and I just dont get bored of it :)

Having played through the demo several times it gives me no indication of a God of War beater at all. I hope the final game offers a LOT more variety.

you do realize , you are comparing next gen vs an old gen games which is unfair. second these 2 games don't play the same to even make comparisons

Alimo I agree thats for sure, I think I forgot to put "...etc." after "visuals" hehe :P.
But yeah it is not even reasonable to compare a next-gen to last gen, no matter how good last gen version looked.

Samething with NG Sigma kept being compared to NG Black :S.

I hated it when they did that.
Of course NG Sigma is looking better, its because its on a next-gen console with enhanced visuals, it can't beat NG Black on 360.

they didn't even compare it on HD for NG on 360, just a regular version :S.

Anyways, I think these game vs game is bad idea, all games are good or bad with their own right, we should either like them or dont like them.

Sure the combat style for Heavenly Sword do remind me and others of God of War, but thats probably it, different art and direction, both games are gonna look amazing!

Well, deal with it.. some people like making comparisons. In a way, every review holds a game up to the standards set for it by great games in that specific genre. Ever see GOTY awards? Guess what -- they're telling you that a game is better than everything else.

And I don't think people are just comparing graphics here.. hell a game doesn't even need be in the same genre for a direct comparison in some issues relating to quality.

Ajsomfan - Well your username says your swedish :P. Heres the thing, on the BC PS3 list it says that its only God of War 1 that works :S

Choose "Sverige" and look for yourself under "G". But if you bought the PS3 in Sweden (duh! :P) and you say both games work perfectly, then I will buy them for sure. Because there is no way I am gonna buy God of War 3 without playing the first two ones.

I played the HS demo over the weekend at a friends house. Thought it was pretty solid, but that short little tease wasn't enough for me to say it's overall better than GOW. However, it does have GOW(1 & 2) beat in some categories already, like cutscenes, animations, Combat(seems to have a bit more depth than GOW), and VA. Well to me that is. Have to wait till the final game is out to really get into the discussion, and also like others have said, when GOW3 is eventually released.

GOW is already an established franchise, and from the looks for it, HS is on it's way to becoming one as well. Sony's 1st Party just seems to get better and better.

I'd need to play the whole game, and I doubt HS will be as good as either of the GoWs but I hope it comes close, the GoW games are fucking ace.

GOW's gameplay wont change at all.

GOW gameplay is what makes GOW, they wont change anything.
The only thing they have done differently in heavenly sword is the amount of enemies on screen and the graphics.

Heavenly swords combat is a lot deeper than the button mashing GOW style.
