2008-07-19 04:50:14 I hope we get to see that trailer in its original form. If this article is true then I am pretty dissapointed. That, to me, would have been a much more exciting way to end the press conference, --- |

It's amazing how little the gaming press knows about contract obligation between publisher and developer. The game publisher has authority over marketing, advertising and all forms of presentation. Even down to the screenshots that are officially released. Now the developer has rights too, and they can be very extensive. While the developer can't control all marketing aspects of the game, they can have approval for marketing decisions made for the game. This can be as limited as consultation or as extensive as blanket power of approval. It all depends on what the developer and publisher both agreed upon (in writing) at the start of their pub/dev partnership. The publisher can exercise severe penalties against the developer for leaked game info. I read once that it can be something like $25,000 per leaked screenshot or capture and $250,000 for footage leaked from a game build. There are clear reasons for Bungie complying with Microsoft's decision and none of them have to have anything to do with Halo. We've seen a sloppy start to the new Microsoft/Bungie publishing arrangement. The fact that anyone at Microsoft couldn't communicate a decision like this to Bungie before E3 is ridiculous. And the more Mattrick tries to make it seem trivial the stupider he sounds. |

2008-07-25 04:59:14 Well guys, more news about the story that just won't die.
I'm also thinking Mattrick was solely responsible for Bungie's announcement being pulled in the first place. |

I think Mattrick needs to shut up about it and leave well enough alone until Bungie has had the opportunity to cool off. The more he keeps yapping about it the worse it seems to get. |

2008-07-25 07:37:22 hes an extremist, feels like he totally undermines MS, which is quite immature and insulting, as he must be naive and outright stupid if he doesnt realize how much MS did for bungie. --- |

2008-07-25 11:15:46 This whole bungie announcement drama is getting ridiculous. for all times sake, bungie is just being credited faf Far far far too much. OK, they made Halo, ok they have new games to announce SO ???? why is the press writing multiple stories about this ??? eurogamer has got at least 5 stories about this in 2 days ..... for goodness sake, give it a rest and wait for the freaking announcement which will turn out to be OMGZOMG @#!!$ it's new Halo!!! --- |

2008-07-25 14:43:55 The drama is stupid, strategic delays happen... and why is everyone assuming Bungie is telling the truth and MS not? I think people are ignoring what went down a mere 10 months ago and how a completely owned studio strong armed their way to not being owned. Why would MS do that? Read between the lines folks... --- |

2008-07-26 03:50:10 Strategic delays happen. Introducing strategic delays days before a major annoucement which had been teased for months is stupid. That's the difference. If say, the delay had been a month before hand, there's no story. --- |

2008-07-26 12:09:18 In my opinion it was a good decision to delay the announcement. People just have stupid expectations, especially regarding to E3. There are some hard core gamers that want's to be wowed every five minutes with some CGI movies. You just can't deliver to those ridicolous expectations and there are alot of other gamers (for example casual gaming) that needs to be addressed. When MS will presents the new HALO IP and give it enough credit, nobody gives a fuck if it's presented at E3 or Games Convention or whatever. |

2008-07-26 13:29:51 I also get a feeling that Bungie are suspiciously antagonistic. But perhaps they're really that pissed off and disappointed, no conspiracy here? --- |

I predict a rough road ahead for MS/Bungie. How much did MS get out of the deal? How long do they get "first rights" on all Bungie published products? MS pushed Halo very hard with huge marketing and brand cohesion (Xbox=Halo) because they owned the IP and studio. Now they own the IP and have dibs on the studio's products. If they don't like the product they can skip it or don't do first tier push if they don't feel it deserves such. And Bungie can be antagonistic #@$@#, continue to strong arm, with the goal to work with Sony or whoever. But just as R*'s non-GTA games are not instant gold there are dangers. You look back at how MS mishandled a lot of studios and their tension with Bungie (who they allowed to be much more independant than other studios) and how Bungie's only fiscially significant franchise is Halo, owned by MS, and this looks like a divorse ripe for drama. I am sure Bungie is pissed... I am also sure MS is pissed at all their backdoor whining Bungie has engaged in over the years with strategic leaks to voice their displeasure. They both have a lot to prove right now, so it will be interesting to see how much they blame eachother when they fail :P --- |

2008-07-26 19:09:59 I predict this will all be forgotten once the game is announced, most likely with a post-announcement interview with the headline along the lines of "In the end, I think it was for the best...", of course we'll never know really. |
| Acert93 Mr. Bad Cop Since 1062 Days |
2008-07-26 19:38:56 I predict in the next 4 years we will read, "Bungie inks deal with Sony/EA" or the like. I also predict a mass fan revolt along the lines of, "M$ sucks!" and "Bungie is overrated." --- |
