Guillemot also noted that the four-years-in-development Splinter Cell: Conviction will finally arrive for the Xbox 360 this holiday season, along with the recently teased Red Steel 2 and a new sports franchise for the Wii.

The executive also briefly touched upon the as-yet-announced new Ghost Recon title, saying it should arrive during the its January-March 2010 quarter. The publisher also expects to launch new franchises Ruse and I Am Alive during that same quarter.

Red Steel 2 is looking mad. Some pseudo western/samurai/sci fi thing apparently with a Prince of Persia-esque visual style. I actually really liked the original Red Steel quite a lot, and hopefully this can take all the things that worked about that game and kinda.. HADOUKEN it back at us in a brill package.

I'm looking forward to Splinter Cell too, but the media blackout has me really worried. The history of that game's development seems shady at best and I really hope they're not just pushing it out now to be done with it and move on.

Despite it's problems the first Red Steel game was fun. If they learned their mistakes, it can ge great. :)

Very few info on Splinter cell doesn't smell good. But i actually liked those early gameplay videos they showed, wonder how much different it is now.

Yeah I'm thrilled about a new direction - as much as I liked the old ones - but at the same time I've been going over in my mind what would actually be the proper appeal of a game like that. Would it be passive Hitman style? How do you really make a game where making hotdog stands explode to lure guards away is actually *meaty* enough to replace the stealth gameplay of the old Splinter Cells? Which by Chaos Theory I reckon had the most refined and tastefully directed stealth mechanics of any game.

I had a similar experience prior to Assassin's Creed where I was like... okay so this is Sands of Time with automatic climbing and no puzzles.. People that you stab to death in an instant and guards that you counter to death in droves. So what do you actually *do* in the game, what is the actual hook? And that turned out to be the exact problem with it. The escape/chase stuff was drummed up as the main thing, but that turned out to be a wildly overstated element of it.

I really hope they know what they're doing with Conviction. If you take away the climbing and the ventilation shaft crawling and the darkness lurking and the keypad hacking and all those secret spy things of the old games you better be prepared to offer something very substantial in return.

i have worries about the new direction of SC (if it is indeed still going in that direction) but hopefully it will make the series better...if not, then i guess they wasted 4 years of their lives.

after 4 years i expect to be completely blown away. anything less and it is going to be a serious dissapointment.

YES!! i loved what they showed before on the old SC5 footage, so if its the same i'm stoked if not, then i'll have to see what direction its taken.

one thing people seem to ALL forget following this news is the ABSCENCE of Beyond Good and Evil 2 from their line up for 09/01 so should not expect the game until after March 10

I don't get how critical you can be of series' needing to evolve--and then when they do, you're even more critical of it actually happening! I think SC should be awesome. I just want the MP to be great too.

I fucking give up on Recon though. Fuck GRAW.

i have no problem with the series evolving, but it has to actually be BETTER then what it was, otherwise, what the hell is the damn point of evolving it at all, other then to say they tried? unless it is better then the game they had previously, then i really couldnt care less about what they're doing. no matter how innovative it 'could' be.

All I want is Spies vs. Mercs ala Pandora Tomorrow/Chaos Theory. They could just re-skin it all, and I'd be happy. It'd be absolute fucking idiocy on their part not to include one of the most original and fun mp game modes I've ever played.

the sad thing is, spies v mercs probably wont be included since it doesnt fit in with the context of the rest of the game (the new jason bourne approach to gamplay) it'll either have a new multiplayer mode, or non at all.

Correct me if I'm wrong but.. isn't it entirely possible to actually play the multiplayer of the old games if that's what you fancy? It's not like games have expiration dates.

It's a console game, so, their populations tend to expire relatively quickly.

I can't imagine that the new game won't have multiplayer. That seems like an absurd assumption. It's not like the multiplayer in Double Agent or Chaos Theory was an exact replica of the single player gameplay. I have no idea why that would restrict their options.

Yeah I suppose so. I still get the occasional urge, dig up the original Unreal Tournament and get all of my friends to install that to play sometimes, though I guess with PC games they're easier to find for peanuts in bargain bins 10 years after they came out.

But yeah, there's some precedent for multiplayer that is nothing like the main game if you look at GRAW and its Ghost Recon 2-esque online modes. That said, I tend to agree with Korn here that it seems unlikely given the context, I mean based on the videos shown this leans more towards an Assassin's Creed like action adventure than something you could craft a multiplayer game out of.

not an exact replica, no, but it was damn close, the spies where essentially mini sam fishers. same goes for the co-op that was in chaos theory, it was basically 2 sam fishers running around, even their moves where similar.

the new look splinter cell however isnt anything like that, there isnt the light and shadow gameplay, there isnt even the same animations seen in the past series (crouched walk, split jump, and all that jazz) and it's incredibly rare a games multiplayer is vastly different to the single player, to a point they share NOTHING in terms of gamplay...i mean, i cant think of a single game where it's multiplayer didnt at least have some sort of mechanic that was shared between multiplaer and single player.

it'd be like gears of war having halo 3's multiplayer mode.

multiplayer probably isnt going to happen in conviction tbh. i honestly wouldnt be surprised if it was going to be a a single player only affair....like assassins creed as simon said (simon says....stand on one foot)
