WOW knew this game would have some sick ass moves in it if john woo was directing :)

This game's graphics look great and the gameplay seems prettty crazy. Running up on the railing like he did and the flip up ;)

Wow blood getting all over his hands face and even staining his clothes nice touch looking very good so far. Of course those screenshots scream look a bit rough on the edges the game will most likely have a very smooth look to it.

A "Hard Boiled" cop that will stop at nothing...staring Chow Yun-Fat...directed by John Woo.

Shit Chow Yun-Fat is called "Tequila" in this game, that's his characters nickname in Hard Boiled!

I suddenly have the urge to watch Hard Boiled/The Killer/A Better Tomorrow 1/2 back to back to back to back to back.

This is a direct sequel to Hard Boiled, that's why the characters have the same name! ;)

Dude, check the source material..it's an AWSOME action movie.

If Max Payne's (which I love) action wasn't atleast partially inspired by John Woo's action movies I'd be fairly suprised.

Watch Hard Boiled..even if you don't give this game a shot..that is, if you like action.

I hope you're joking, Max Payne was "ripped off" from John Woo movies in the first place.

Your completely right. Even in the credits they mention John as an influence...
Anyhow i would just love a sequel to Max Payne, seriously i loved those 2 Max Payne games on the pc. The story was awesome and the mood was gritty. Cutscenes (the comics) were superb and the action was over the top.

But back to the topic: This looks awesome, can't wait to get my hands on it...

Indeed..

It's been rumored that Remedy will revisit Max shortly..I can only hope those rumors come true. The Fall of Max Payne is one of my favorite games ever..yet entirely too short--I want more.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a headache to attend to..

yeah your right... There's nothing sweeter to see a Desert Eagle round leaving the chamber in slow-motion and hitting the bad-guy in the head....
Also i really loved those dive moves wich seem to be in this one also...

I needed to finish both games without being shot (except for boss characters because otherwise it's impossible) and damn was that though....

Getting shot in Max Payne was half the fun though, the amount of painkillers he gets through is a pretty good explanation for why he's so fucked in the head (along with the Valkyr of course)

For real?

Yea...I just read Take-Two's press release, and Remedy's and Rockstars comments...

I think I'd rather have no Max Payne 3 at all.

Max Payne didn't create the role of such a cop... if anything john woo and chow yun fat had more to do with how max payne played and progressed than anyone will truly ever know.

The storyline was really nice though and poetry was an even better touch.

Sorry for being so short before. (not a usual treat of mine for sure!)

Anyway, yeah, Max Payne is more a collage of homages to a bunch of film genres and takes too many influences to be regarded as something truly unique in a sense. It brought a very distinctive style of gameplay to the table, though, and that gameplay has become more or less standard in terms of what third person action games based on these themes are supposed to deliver.

The strongest influences in Max Payne are certainly the John Woo/Hong Kong "action opera" bits combined with classic film noir themes. The desperate cop with nothing to lose, manipulated by a femme fatale, and the dark ending with promises of things far from "happily ever after". I think the most recent and obvious film to feature the same sort of ingredients that Max Payne does is the excellent remake of a pretty stuffy 50s noir film; Payback, featuring Mel Gibson. I suggest that anyone keen on the atmosphere and story in Max Payne check that film out.

There are also obvious references to Matrix in the game, but Matrix in itself is an even bigger brew of already-available themes and stylistic quirks, so it's a bit redundant to mention it.

Remedy are hard at work on Alan Wake, its horror/thriller type adventure (?) game set in a mountain village. Alan looks to be to thriller/mystery/horror what Max Payne was to action, from a story and themes perspective. Hopefully the gameplay will bring something defining and never-before-seen to gaming, and make a mark in video game history like Max before it.

Tomb Raider is more of a hybrid traps platformer w/ a bit of action on the side..so yea..if you don't want a real shooter--please, go play Tomb Raider.

Not that I don't love tomb raider too, but it's a silly comparison..they're completely seperate genres..Tomb Raider has more Prince of Persia to it than it does John Woo..it is at it's best a fine mix of action, platforming, and puzzle solving.

Unfortunately it hasn't been at its best for years.

But, back to third person shooters..for now

Since Take 2 are nutty in their noggins and apparently not doing Max Payne 3, (perhaps this is a good thing though) this Stranglehold thingie will have to quench my thrist for some wild crazy ass shooting bonanza. It looks mighty kickass indeed.

BlimBlim, when oh when will thee be getting a 720p version of this? For me be tired of tiring my eyes upon thee vile moving pictures sized like ratpoop upon places like thee foul IGN.

Man at Door: "Hey, what's the password... John who?"
Bum: "Ok, ok, John Woo..."

I think the gameplay of Max Payne is pretty much inspired by his movies. It's kinda weird, Max Payne ripped off John Woo and now John Woo is ironically ripping off Max Payne. Though he really isn't. ...this messes with my head. :(

Looks...meh honestly. It looks like a bad Max Payne clone of sorts, with bloodrayne-ish pole running/slow-mo and stuff.
