2006-04-04 13:55:09 In reply to deftangel (2006-04-04 13:35:06) Posted by deftangel I played a demo of this last week. Was going to wait for a bit before posting but what the hell. This has been pushed back a couple of times but latest word on this is September. Hence they have lots of development time left. The small section of the city available in the demo is alive and breathing and with so much going on, I guess that's why they're struggling with the frame rate. Nothing that won't be fixed though. I was really impressed with the physics and explosions, the latter are on a par with GRAW easily. Shooting someone's tires out causes the car to swerve off the road realistically. It's possible to escape from the cops by popping the tyres and legging it! Animations for jacking vehicles were quite amusing as well. In one, the drivers head is smashed against the wheel and then thrown out the car. When I did this it was into an oncoming SUV and the person went flying! Customization will be a heavy part of this game. Character options aren't the same as say Oblivion but still pretty deep. Voice acting looks good too. Like I say, lots and lots of time for Violition to polish this which can only be a good thing overall. The multiplayer/Xbox live component sounds awesome. Reckon the demo will hit in the summer :) This does look great though, I just hope that there's a little bit more to it than gang violence :/ I'm definitly interested in how the mp component of the game turns out as well. |

2006-08-05 19:04:01 This game I'm still on the fence about. I've been on and off. I thought I wanted it then I thought I didn't to recently deciding I definitely don't want it, but now I'm just unsure. --- |

2006-08-05 19:14:03 half life is very much like a movie and the character doesn't have a speaking role. |
| Optimusv2 Since 1431 Days |
2006-08-05 19:24:21 Hah you have a damn good point there, but half life is a game with a strong history and following plus its a totally different type of game than what one would classify the gta series or saints row. Half Life has far less to prove than Saints Row would need to. --- |

2006-08-05 19:35:31 what are you talking about a "strong history"? |
| Optimusv2 Since 1431 Days |
2006-08-05 19:48:01 My fault when I say half life had nothing to prove I'm saying in regards to the second game which has come and gone. Half Life since the first really had nothing to prove to anyone. The Half Life Franchise has a VERY strong history regardless of it only being 2 games.. how big the game is can't be questioned. It doesn't matter if there were only 2 "half-life" has a strong history. --- |

2006-08-05 20:17:43 Claude Speed from GTAIII didn't speak at all, and he was more badass than Tommy and CJ. I found Tommy and CJ really annoying, so I'm 100% happy with the fact that Saints Row's main character doesn't talk at all (and I'm also happy that you can make him look however you want). |

2006-08-05 20:50:21 Well, if the game comes out in September, it has a bit more chances of me buying it. --- |

2006-08-05 22:32:20 In reply to XAL (2006-08-05 20:17:43) Posted by XAL As for GTA, I would like to see them take Saints Row as a model of what GTA should become in the future. The whole voice ordeal is just one of the things I've come to expect after the last 2 gtas, but gta's story, character dialog always seems extremely well done and of course the saints row devs have some really talented actors helping out, but the game has yet to give me the gta feel I don't know what it is. Yea I actually LOVED gta3 and I think GTA 3 is one of if not the best in the series. When I think about Saints Row like I would GTA 3 I guess you have a very good point, but I pray they mix it up and its not a laundry list of crappy uninteresting missions over and over. I guess the issue is Saints Row just feels more petty gang violence than most GTA games ever did so I figured this game would benefit greatly from a vocal main character. I hope it isn't all about petty street gang stuff its got to be awhole lot bigger than that and I hope it is, but the type of emphasis they put on the gangs I doubt it is... I also really dislike the floaty physics of the characters :/ I'm hoping there are a lot of really interesting missions that are mixed up. This game's success is seriously riding on what they do as far as character development goes. They better make sure all the key members of the other gangs are some great interesting characters. --- |

2006-08-05 22:59:41 Floaty physics is a hell of a lot better than NO physics. |

2006-08-05 23:17:13 In reply to XAL (2006-08-05 22:59:41) Posted by XAL Floaty physics is a hell of a lot better than NO physics. As for character development, there are 4 very different gangs - each that work very differently. The game also has involvement in the politics with crime (Vice Kings and David Carradine's character from the Rollerz). It's easy to say that Saints Row doesn't have a deep story when you don't know anything about the game's story (as none of us have played it through yet). Sure we know a couple of tidbits here and there (you have a spy in the Rollerz and Troy will probably betray the Saints for the Vice Kings) - obviously the Saints take over Stilwater, but as you defeat the gangs it seems that they join your ranks, so that in itself is interesting because your enemies become your friends. I also like how you can choose which territories you can take over first or if you feel like taking over another territory while halfway through another one, it's possible; also, the whole game world is open for you at the start so you don't have to wait for bridges to be fixed 10 hours into the game. I think the game has a broad enough spectrum of characters and plot elements for it to come even with, if not beat out GTA (the Hollywood actors said they were impressed with the script and said it was very smart, so that gives you an idea that it will in fact have some depth to it). --- |

2006-08-05 23:25:21 I like the missions more. I feel more involved than I did in GTA. They're also less of a chore, and actually fun because you get to SHOOT instead of using LOCK-ON. Killing is far more rewarding when it takes some skill to do so. --- |

2006-08-05 23:36:23 Oh they most definitely will have to because they have some really nice features going on in this one. --- |

2006-08-06 00:16:36 At the moment, i can honestly say that gameplay wise there is not one thng, GTA does better than this, Driving, Shooting, killing, mindless mayhem, weapons, physics, sound to name a few. I loved all the GTA's especially Vice City (Sill one of the very best games around) but this is just quite simply more fun and enjoyable, i've spent hours on the demo just driving around and causing havoc and it never gets tiresome and thats what gaming is all about. |
