This is why so many hate the Fable games in general
I don't know, those Fable games seem to have gone under the radar, especially the second one.
But then again, i've been playing last year's games (Halo 3, Call of Duty 4) a whole lot more than this year's games.
Ignorance is the true enemy of all things.
Suhweet!

Sales rule unless you play enough games to really give some informed comapre/contrast.
if this was done by the general public let me show you the very sad but true top 5 (just me guessing, by no means offical.)
1. wii fit
2. fifa 09
3. need for speed
4. a 100th sequel to a popular game
5. a couple of the usual low quality movie tie ins
our top 5 is much better. the above is alot more boring and predictable
I think a polling of the general gaming public would actually wind up looking pretty simular to what you see here. Just look at a large, relatively casual website's user picks. They're all over the place and it's the same stuff on every site.

doing a poll like this here is like asking GOTY in the 360 section of gametrailers...theres going to be an obvious leaning towards 360 titles...maybe not due to "fanboyism" but simply due to that fact they havnt played anything else.
Anyhow, Gamersyde GotY is just that--Gamersyde, whatever that demographic will be. Even an objective panel of experienced game reviewers is going to disagree based on preference and appeal.
Pwn'd by Phaethon360.
GOTY seems to often wind up being some kind of vague statement about what games transcend the usual gameyness and stand out as an event or as a significant stride in not just gameplay but perhaps also perception. LBP is a good example of something that has altered our perception of what games can be like. This is all fun and good and a great topic of conversation, but then the picks are also so damn obvious.
Of COURSE LBP has altered our perception of what games can be like so of course it's gonna be up there. Of course MGS4 was one of the most important gaming events of the year and of course the cutscenes are gonna beam together in a cinematic experience, powered by the shared culture into a shuttle of glorious fan gospel worthy a GOTY mention. This all makes so much sense that you can't possibly complain when the top 5 scrolls by on your computer monitor. It never really had much to do with what game was the best or anything like that because they were all incredibly good, so for all intents and purposes these identical GOTY lists you see everywhere are the unquestionable truth. Those are, without a doubt, the games of the year.
I'm personally more interested in finding out what games people picked out of their own interest and which of those they enjoyed though, and when you move out of the obvious top 5 picks, I think you get closer to that.
Prepare To Drop!!
May be next time we should a list of Top games no one has played in addition to this one. it's on those types of lists that little gems appear but then again there simply are TOO many games to play and it's so damn impossible both time and money-wise to play all of them and that's why if we want a proper list of top games that takes into account other indy or games no one got to play, we should look at sites lik Eurogamer ..... Their Top 50 Games list includes some very hidden little games!
BOUGHT 08: TRU, PoP, TLR, FarC2, GoW2
RENT: MEd, VP2, BK3, NarutoBB, SC4, GAxe, Fable2
2009: FF13, SC5, AW, RE5, Im Alive, SH5, SO4, BG&E2, Bayonetta, Doom 4, LoShadow, SF4, Ninja Blade, ToV, N3-2

I've been playing older games a lot myself.. but I sorta agree. Even though I haven't purchased any rhythm games this year, I'm sad there's none on the list. The fact that no one voted for RB2 because it rehashes Rock Band's mechanics doesn't seem very just when there's seven other sequels on the list.
Strange memories on this nervous night in Las Vegas. Has it been five years? Six? It seems like a lifetime.
I liked this discussion though, i can see why people feel a predictable top10 is a bad thing, but the fact is that they are the games people are playing due to hype, reviews, being a sequel or whatever. Even going by sales data the top10 would look failry similar with the games jostling for position due to multiplatform etc.
I prefer a guage like this though, get a group of gamers together, get their opinions and total the scores, its a lot more fair than doin this on a console specific site or asking people in a game store. As was mentioned above, the top 10 would probably be NDS/Wii titles or your racer/sport games.
I mean gamersyde is one of the few places that you get a broad spectrum of console and pc owners, some of us are biased, some not so much, but it is the range of opinions that adds the validity, it all balances out.
I prefer my 360, i'll admit to that, but MGS4 would still probably be in my top 5 games of the year flawed as it was. LBP didn't appeal at all, i can see the novelty but thats it, from its announcement it looked like nothing but a level editor and we all know the issues with content control, yet there it stands in the top10 and I applaud it for reaching its audience and being recognised for that fact.
This is why so many hate the Fable games in general
I don't know, those Fable games seem to have gone under the radar, especially the second one.
If that was the case my #1, Penumbra, would fall behind even shitty games like Spore and Fable 2 simply because it's short and 100% linear :P
GHWT surely does not deserve a place in the top 10 at any rate, the song list is garbage (maybe...one good song for every ten?) and the way they've simplified many of the tracks on hard is just baffling...it's so badly done. What are songs from Michael Jackson and the Beastie boys even doing on there? The music studio is a goddamn atrocity, im surprised that there are any songs on there at all. GH World tour sucks. GH2 is still the best one imo, even if the songs are covers the choses in music are so much better that it saves the game any day. Also the button patterns are way better in GH2.
Memories, they have a habit of sticking to you like...like a pube on a pipe.
"If we can hit that bull's-eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards...Checkmate." - Zapp Brannigan
What i mean is that many of the songs in GHWT are really boring to play because it's just mashing away at the damn chords over and over again. Playing a song like Dinosaur jr - feel the pain is not fun at all.

I still maintain that Beat It is awesome though :P

But let's face it, most people playing the GH/RB games are the kind that don't give a crap about music generally (listening to you ipod a lot is not the same thing as loving music imo), and care even less about the songs in the game from a gameplay perspective. As long as it's their favorite tune they'll be happy.
