Halo 3: Orbital Drop Shock Trooper Thread

I just found someone on my friendlist who played it with me on legendary. We finished the game in less than 3 hours without any exploration (might add I'm a lvl 48 and he a 50 in MP), Brutes died like flies and Grunts were flying all over the place. It's definitely easier than Halo 3 even though you die from two blasts from a Bruteshot, but with the most effective combo (PP + Pistol/Carbine) and snipers practically dropped everywhere it's no surprise. It was short but a lot of fun.

Now I NEED to play some firefight, can't imagine playing it on legendary with the "Catch" skull on. On normal the grunts kicked my ass with about 8 grenades flying my way.

Firefight is pretty awesome. Campaign is lackluster solo, and some of the cutscenes are missing in co-op. Not to mention since the people I was playing with decided to go with Campaign Scoring if we don't continue that method on Legendary we can't proceed. I'm really not liking this game enough to go through it again. Not that I think the story isn't worth knowing anything about. Die hard Halo fans will love it. Fans who've thought the series has waned overtime will be amused. I think its overpriced. That's my two cents.

So far I have really enjoyed the Campaign and music is really nice.

Only thing I don't like is the saving in this game. I completed one of those missions and when I was wandering around the city my 360 crashed. When I wanted to continue it started from the start of the mission I just beat. Fucking BS. Also a bit strange you can only play firefight with friends?

If true wow!! 2million in 24hrs
As reported earlier in the week, final Halo 3: ODST preorders stood at around 1.35m in the Americas - lower than Halo 3's 1.95m but still impressive. Preliminary data is now in, and we can exclusively reveal that day 1 sales in the Americas were just over 1.5 million, with a further 500,000 sold in Europe and other regions. Total Halo 3: ODST sales stand at around 2 million worldwide (vs nearly 3 million for Halo 3's first day back in 2007) - generating over $160m in total revenue. Bungie leaderboards show over 950,000 users have already signed up with ODST.

So how does ODST compare to Halo 3? Sales are down around 30% on day one, but ODST still sits in an pretty exclusive club of games that can sell over two million units in a single day - ODST is comfortably ahead of other big Xbox360 titles like Gears of War 2 and Fable II in the same timeframe and should reach sales of 6-8 million before Halo Reach arrives.

It is still too early to see whether ODST will move much hardware. Conventional wisdom will suggest not really since the game will be selling primarily to those who already own Halo 3 but there will be a small boost associated with the high profile release of the title and general marketing buzz.

Just finished my campaign playthrough. 9.5 hours or thereabouts on Heroic, solo. Spent a fair bit of time in the City and found half the audio logs and watched them all. Will have to go back to do one Legendary playthrough, rest of the audio logs and mop up achievements so I imagine I'll get 15ish hours out of campaign.

Music and atmosphere are the best things about the campaign. The gameplay is a fun little place somewhere between Halo: CE and Halo 3 and the difference is quite distinct actually. I can understand comments with regard to the ending though.

FireFight is great; games can last a very long time. A good crack at a map is at least an hour.

I paid £30 for it (£50 RRP). No quibbles about value at either price to be honest.

Remember Heretic? Well he works for me now, and he told me to tell you that he thinks ODST is awesome. http://couchcampus.com/blog/2009/09/the-best-of-ha...

I paid something ridiculously cheap all things considered for ODST from Amazon. Around $6 after rebates.

Finished the campaign! Took a bit over 7 hours, but I only got 7 audio logs and there's a lot of replayability potential. I loved nearly every aspect, it was well worth the wait, hype and money!

Just played some of the new mythic maps and a few rounds of firefight. Fun.

Haven't started the campaign yet.

Edit: And while I fully intend on enjoying the crap out of the campaign, I also do really wish there was more new multiplayer content outside of firefight. A few more new maps, some new weapons (even if it were just pistols and SMG's!), or new equipment would have been nice.

But so far so good.

Me and a friend played a round of firefight last night that lasted for about 2 and a half hours. It was on normal and we were still struggling with some of the skull combinations but man was it fun.

You have to get the seven vidmaster challenge achievements.. partially from Halo 3 and partially from ODST.

Wait, didn't bungie say that players would never have the recon armour and that it was only for bungie staff? I'm sure I read that somewhere.

Super disappointed in this game. All of my friends played it the first few days, and now noone is touching it. The only redeeming part is Firefight. Campaign was insanely short. I was only playing in Normal mode, but beat it in less than 6 hours. Thats pathetic. Also, I feel like I just paid for the 2 previous map packs a second time with the multiplayer disc. This game in all reality shouldve been $40 at the most. I hope Halo:Reach is able to redeem the franchise a bit. After Reach, I would like to see a new IP from Bungie. Its time to put Halo to rest.

No doubt it's overpriced.. I've been barking up that tree for months.. but it's also a great game!

I bought this game for the Reach beta, I stayed for the firefight.

HALO will NEVER be put to rest but Bungie can decide not to develop halo games anymore. They dont seem to want to do that though, it seems. in all fairness though, they made 3 full fledged Halo games only in 8 years which is no milking to be honest. Halo ODST counts as an expansion to be honest.

Milking is the $300+ of Halo 3's hidden costs. Why rush sequels when you can pad your bottom line with one game?

The game is quite easy for Heroic difficulty, much easier than Halo 3, I can't even imagine how ridiculously easy is normal mode.

I'll probably get this eventually - say, in the next couple of months or so.

But I'm only really doing it for the Reach BETA. The game on its own looks good anyway though, so I'll no doubt play it thoroughly.
