WETA have a very impressive track record, especially when it comes to integrating CG with film and producing convincing real world sets and costumes.

'Nuff Said! Weta does great CGI, I have no worries there :D The budget may be an issue though. My biggest concern:

- Who will play MC? Hopefully the follow the killer script where MC waits forever to talk, and when he does 0_o
- Budget: Will they have enough for a) good actors and b) a budget to support the CGI, normal FX,etc
- Script: MS paid a ton for the script to be written, lets hope they don't destroy it like 99% of other good scripts do by Hollywood
- Length: Good stories take time to tell. PJ makes longer movies. But most action flicks are short and lack substance :/

MC will be voice only, as long as the guy in the suit is the right shape (height might be an issue as MC is supposed to be over 7 feet tall!)

Hopefully they'll use the first 20-30mins to detail the Covenant war, Spartan program and situation on Reach. The other 60-90 minutes should be enough to get the rest of the Halo 1 storyline into.

The movie should really end with Chief (helmetless but head unseen) in the Longsword and Guilty Spark fleeing the destroyed Halo.

Oh and my choice for Sergeant Johnson has to be Delroy Lindo...

Quint: What's the overall tone you want to strike with the movie? Escapist, big budget action fun? Gritty, realistic future war? Neither? Both?

Neill Blomkamp: Well, I don’t want to give away exactly how I want to be, but, big budget action can certainly look very similar to 100 other films which are big budget action, so my goal is to make something that is honestly unique and a radical departure from stuff we are used to.

I’ve been given the resources and the source material to make something awesome, so I have to really invest myself 100% in a film that I love every frame of, and for me to love every frame means it has to have something that sets it apart.

Fans of the game should love this film, people who don’t know the game should be transported to a place that blows them away for two hours.
He at least says the right things. Lets hope he can pull it off.

If you guys go see Pirates of the Carribean 2's Davey Jones, and look at Gollum, its like looking at Halo 3 and Halo Zero. Most of their CG I failed to realize was CG at the time (Davey Jones' face, and his minions). I'm not saying WETA does bad CG, but you can easily tell whats real in the scene and whats not. ILM's work in War of the Worlds made me wish they would do Halo. Looking at any Star Wars prequel makes me cringe...

Gollum had a cartoon like quality about him, but that was the nature of the character. Compared to Jar Jar Binks though he was Orson friggin' Welles! :P

Don't forget the LOTR battle scenes aswell, they make the Star Wars prequels look like toysets.

No doubt, but Lucas spent nothing on their CG. And he probably went for speed against quality. ILM has done a ton of high calibur work, and most fitting I believe for a Scifi setting.

For the record, I have seen Pirates 2, excellent film, but its CG is hardly realistic. It's just so over the top and expected from what's essentially more Disney of a movie than Disney's Disney movies of late. I would never expect a squid face to look like that if I met one in real life, because its facial expressions and the movement of the tentacles are way too theatrical, but King Kong actually looks like a live ape.

Of course it's an unfair comparison any way you look at it because ILM movies consistently try to be over the top and basically cartoony, whereas LoTR and King Kong both are supposed to be believable and to an extent realistic. In fact, for that very reason I think WETA is a perfect match for Halo. I shudder to think of a rubbery Jar Jarbiter. :O

AETOA is currently under reconstruction, so it'll look a bit funky for a while.

lmao.

Different strokes for different folks. Either is a good candidate, but I'm more partial to ILM's non-Lucas affiliated work :).
