Haha, I have both Forza 2 and Forza 3 and have yet to go online with either of those two games either. I don't know what the heck it is about me with not going online with games where it should seem like going online is common sense and to do anything else would be like robbing myself of a good value, and yet here I am so many big mp titles released, most of which I own. had Xbox Live Gold every day of every month since the 360 has been out, with maybe the exception of 3 or 4 months and haven't gone online with any of big mp releases, but found the time to go online with more niche titles. You're more likely to catch me going online with something like NBA 2K10. Need to break out of that habit, because I'm clearly missing out on a lot of cool stuff.

It's damn Counter-Strike 1.6 man. Playing that game with friends is just so damn addicting that if I'm gaming online at all, it's usually spent playing cs 1.6 with buddies. Gotta branch the hell out lol, and I plan to make to make it happen with Reach :)
Well I don't play Forza that much online either, rather I meant playing time trials and not all the other single player stuff like the HUGE single player career mode. Not racing against other cars and only against the clock is such a small fraction of the experience.

Halo's campaign is fun, but the online part opens up SOOOO many aspects of the game's design you can never come close to appreciating in the single player.

Put down the CS bud, you are in for a real treat
Bad Company 2 is another amazing FPS online if you have a lot of patience with retard teammates.

Man, if you've been stuck on CS 1.6 for ten years, than you've missed out on a helluva a lot of great multiplayer gaming. But more to the point, this is Halo, and you're (apparently) a Halo fan. It just blows my mind how this game can have fans who don't take it online. It's literally more than half the package. If you don't play Halo on Xbox live, than you've only experienced a fraction of the Halo experience. Just thinking about all of the great MP experiences out there since 1.6 is mind boggling though! Battlefield, Tribes, Halo, Call of Duty, Team Fortress 2, etc. You need to broaden your approach to online gaming.

CS is great but there's a lot more variety out there.. and a lot of it is a lot better too. CS 1.6 has become a game for pros who are too insecure to move on and learn new games! I'm not saying that's you, personally, but it's frustrating how easily competitive players get caught up on a single game for their entire gaming lifetime. I understand, they know the game very well and they don't want to be a noob again, but jeez.. unless you're making money doing it, doesn't that get old after a while?
Heh it's interesting you'd mention pros, it's precisely what has kept me so interested in cs 1.6 and before it 1.5 as long as I have. I find the competitive aspect of it highly entertaining. The displays of skill, the various strategies used by the top teams (especially the europeans, swedes especially), the surprise upset matches, the amazing double, triple overtime matches. All of it is just stuff I've always found highly exciting and there were so many awesome tournaments with awesome teams to watch thanks to HLTV ips with a one round delay from the real match. World Cyber Games, Cyber Professional League, Electronic Sports World Cup, and various big European lans, some of which I don't remember the spelling for at this moment.

It also helps that I've known and played with a number of professional players and am pretty good friends with what was easily the most popular north american gaming team out there at one point, Team 3D. At one point they branched out and added what was the best Halo team out there at the time, think they go by Final Boss now, not sure how good they are anymore, don't really pay attention to the Halo scene that much. And then, of course, I worked on their website for that Directv Gaming League, The Championship Gaming Series, although they were playing crappy CS Source then, with crappy rules which totally killed a big part of what made me like the competitive scene in the first place, but it didn't take long for 1.6 to come back to the forefront of the competitive scene.

If my experience with CS was based purely on the public gaming side of things, I would've bee done with it a long time ago, but the competitive scene really opened it up for me as something that was completely unique and unlike anything else out there, which gave the game replay value like I can't even explain, because I was always so fascinated by watching these amazing players and teams compete against one another. Nonetheless though, as awesome as the competitive scene still is, it isn't anything like what it use to be, and I don't bother trying to take teams I play on too seriously anymore, even though I still play on them for fun every now and then, so Halo Reach and tons of other online titles here I come :)

Wow, awesome bungie update :)

There is still a great competition scene on the PC for Battlefield, Call of Duty (4 and 2), TF2, and a load of other games. Hell, Qualke Live is really taking off too. Most major leagues (CAL/CPL is sorta dead) are playing those games. I have high hopes that BC2 will see BF2 levels of success in that area too. But on consoles, Halo is especially popular with competition. There are even playlists that emulate the MLG's rules!

Personally, I play Halo rather casually, but I still get into it and it's basically a mp gamers game. Bungie.net is filled to the brim with stuff for stats nerds like myself too. It's just a crucial part og the Halo experience. While Halo balances the multi, solo and co-op games brilliantly, it's hard to deny that MP is what has kept people invested in this franchise.

Awesome, exactly like I envisaged a few pages back ;) Halo: Reach's player investment system

http://g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/703448/Bungie-Re...
Player Investment is driven by credits ("cR" for short). Credits are given to gamers simply for playing Halo: Reach, either through rounds of multiplayer or by working through the single-player campaign, but the amounts of credits vary, based on the actions of the player. Different actions will dole out a different amount of credits, but Bungie is being careful to not encourage player actions that would potentially damage the gameplay experience. It does mean that more challenging tasks (say, five headshots in under a minute) would produce more credits. Bungie's currently balancing how credits are doled out, but credits drive the Player Investment experience, both to increase a player's Military Rank (replacing Halo 3's Ranking system) and to purchase customization items in Halo: Reach's "Armory."

In Modern Warfare 2, as a player levels up, they unlock new abilities, new weapons and other features that fundamentally change the gameplay. Someone who is level one in Modern Warfare 2 can not equally square away against someone nearing the level cap. Bungie is being mindful to avoid that type of player inequality in Halo: Reach. Everything that players gain access to via credits in Halo: Reach are used solely to purchase helmets, shoulders, chests and other accessories that allow Halo: Reach players to create a Spartan who is uniquely them. These items are for visual changes only and do not affect the flow of gameplay.

"There are no in-game benefits to Spartan armor," said Smith. "It would definitely make Halo something different than what Halo is."

No in-game benefits to armor? That's what they think! My Spartan looking cooler than someone elses' will directly lead to me being a better Halo player :P

When people see my Spartan, they will lose all self esteem.

Can I just say hat's off to Bungie for not jumping on board with this whole "carrot on a stick" trend of making players level up to unlock new weapons as a way to get the player to log in more hours and keep playing. Sure it is addictive and does add incentive to keep playing, but it also makes being a casual player even MORE punishing for those who don't have time to play the game 200 hours a day.

Very very few devs get gameplay and balance like Bungie do. I really hope Bungie does a much more serious toned game after Reach as I love their games, but I am getting pretty tired of the entire Halo vibe. That being said, I certainly expect Reach to be the best console shooter so far this gen, at least in terms of online value. I'm still not convinced how good the campaign will be, but if it's as much like CE as they say, then it should be pretty damn good.

So, they're including full customisation with regards to your Spartan, whilst maintaining balance in gameplay? Take note, Infinity Ward. Take note.

QFT! It's so obvious Bungie puts so much love into their game, maybe its because it the game that made them but it feels like most devs now don't love their games as much.

..that too was a dig at Infinity Ward.

I would like to see an option to turn off the "red vs. blue" color scheme though. With all the cool character customization, it's a shame to make an awesome looking spartan that you really can't appreciate nearly as much when most of the game types force the red/blue color scheme on you.

I'd like to see an option where you could turn this off and just have different colored icons above each players head like in BF or most other shooters, just so we can better enjoy the fruit of our creative labors more often

Not a huge deal, just something that bugged me in Halo 3, I didn't like the look of my armor nearly as much when all red/blue. Too cartoon looking imo.

I think Halo 2 players had icons above their heads, I'm not so keen on everyone using their own colours on team based games, especially if you play with no map, just like MW2 therey will be so many betrayals.
