There was really nothing particularly wrong with the way Killzone 1 played, but the ultra wonky framerate made it feel so sluggish that aiming was a chore. You had to zoom to hit anything really, and that's fairly standard issue, but even then you would often oversteer the reticule because it didn't feel like it was responding.

Here however the framerate is VASTLY improved, and if it still employs roughly the same mechanics it's gonna be great.

The atmosphere is absolutely perfect in this vid too. The original killzone had that going for it a lot.. this.. hard to put your finger on atmosphere and intensity and.. If Gears was the sense of everything BEING destroyed then Killzone is the feeling before that. On the edge of losing all hope, being in the defining moment of everything either going to hell or not going to hell but for a huge cost.

I've heard that indeed, the Helghast are controlling the weather/atmosphere, absorbing lightning with those huuge weapons and directing it back at people. That's apparently what strikes the carrier at the start of the trailer.

Man it's a long wait until we get to play this. :( From what I've heard (again) though is that beyond the initial release there'll be several episodes released on PSN.

Guerilla Games' lead tester, Seb Downie, has decided to shoot his mouth off on the official Killzone forums about a planned Killzone 2 public beta.

Posting on the killzone.com forums, Seb Downie (under the alias 'motherH') revealed: "Of course there is going to be a public beta. I have always said that any game that has an online mode needs to go through a public beta to ensure it works as intended."

Downie ends his message by insinuating that more information will be revealed later in the year. Both the original Killzone and the PSP follow-up, Killzone: Liberation, went through public beta testing, so this should come as no surprise.

There was 3 rumors before game being shown:
* helghast react to each bullet hit in different ways, body dynamics etc
* the weather plays a big part in the game, but more of this will be revealed at E3
* and that the online servers are like worlds, if helghast are dominating the servers, then the maps will look more run down, if ISA dominate then there will be citizens living in the maps!

looks like first 2 is true maybe third aslo

Wuca; have you heard anything about the game supposedly taking place on Helghan?

As we zoomed back out to the clouds to resume the demo, we asked de Jonge about the three tower-like ships hovering above the cloud cover at the beginning of both the trailer and the demo. He informed us that those were the Vektan cruisers, from which the ISA is launching its invasion of Helghan. He added that the game itself will begin in media res, with the invasion of Helghan already in progress. The majority of the Helghan citizenry will have already fled their homes--a convenient explanation for the generally empty cityscapes many shooters generally feature, de Jonge acknowledged--but the game's opening will provide further details on that particular story element.

I must be the only person not impressed at all with that, im very disappointed. It moves great though, very smooth. But the low textures are really obvious and make the whole thing look like a collage of blurred objects.

Anyways its still very far from completion so I hope they do up the texture quality. Im glad to see they removed the motion blur too.

The textures don't exactly jump out, but the game achieves a nice enough visual look that they don't need to stand out. The game looks great visually. I wouldn't call it a collage of blurred objects. If they increase textures further and can still make it look insane then by all means, but from the killzone E3 2005 trailer I feel muted colors work best for this game.

Awesome stuff Wuca! I wonder if Templar will be in the game, as the guy shouting orders at the start of the trailer pretty much has to be Rico. Luger and Hakha never really clicked with me at all, so I don't mind if they're not in.

Invasion of Helghan must be a last measure to stop the onslaught of Helghast on Earth, otherwise it seems like an awfully cold thing to do, to just go there and start killing people when they were outcast and sent there to begin with.

This is true, the muted colour does work with it well. But MGS does the same, which im not so keen on looking that way..

Textures aren't that good, that's true. They look low-res. Other thing I don't like is how blurry the guns look, they look bad. I see what they are trying to achieve, but they make the gun model look less impressive than what they are, and as far as textures, they look lacking too.

Still, the game looks impressive for many other reasons.

The blur on the gun changes as you focus on it for reloads, I think it's a very nice effect.

Well, when he first changes to the other gun, he's just standing there and it looks all blurry. It doesn't work that well there.

I actually agree. the textures are indeed awful bnut they have plent of effects on screen too. I wouldnt expect the textures to look better it's an enormous job to do all of them let alone RE-up later on in development. dont forget the PS3 has only 256MB dedicated momeroy which could explain the low res textures in all the PS
games if yo ask me but you get to have better things thanks to the cell, the AI and stuff like that.

Yeh intially i put that down to poor textures, but then after rewatching the vid I quickly noticed that indeed is intentionally blurred. You can see the effect kick in more when the player brings up the scope. But i'd put my money on it that the gun is low textured too anyway :s

That's true Lebato, and when he ducks behind cover his eyes should adjust to what he's watching so that the blur isn't as prevailent then. I think it could also help some if the weapon moved a little when he's standing still, because it's largely because it's so static that makes it look odd.

As for textures I'm - as I've made people aware for a year or so now :D refered to as the hairy nipple effect - really not bothered. Once shit starts blowing up and you start shooting you just never notice them anyway. Enviromental effects, shit going on, things flying through the air, and a sense of scale - stuff like that I value a hundred times more and that's clearly what they're going for. Pause MGS4 trailers and check out the texture quality and it's like someone chewed on them and spit them out, and once you press play again it doesn't matter.

I don't know about that. To me, they are much easier to ignore in Killzone than in MGS4. MGS4's are distractingly bad.

Yeah, I mostly commented on textures in general, you don't seem too bothered by them in Killzone either. I just used MGS4 as an example because it's a very revered game in comparison and people are generally in fair agreement that MGS4 looks snazzy.

I am glad KZ2 doesn't look like a total flop and it looks better than KZ1, but I am not overly impressed in regards to the gameplay shown or the technology and graphics. The art direction is very good though, as are most animations, as well is the clear effort that dozens and dozens of artists have put into the game. Big budget game for sure. I am hoping for some innovative gameplay :)

The fans have spoken. Concerning the graphics of the Halo 3 Beta: "There's so many little effects and things going on that make this game pretty much 2nd only to Gears at the moment."
