Single player is not bad! I love Bad Company 2 on PC and the single player mode in that game is completely forgettable...the demo for killzone 3 is better than the entire SP campaign in Bad Company 2

Single player campaign is the reason why I am buying this game lol, sp mode in KZ2 was great as well. Its going to below Halo series for sure though...

for SP campaigns I would rank them as:

Half Life 2 series > Crysis > Halo > Killzone >>>>>>>>>>>> Medal of Honor (Argh waste of $25)

I honestly haven't had fun playing a halo SP campaign since the first game. And the only reason that was any fun was that the gameplay (specifically the shooting) was fucking perfect. The story in the halo games is immediately forgettable and quite frankly pretty awful. I think they really ruined that series with 2 and ESPECIALLY 3. But this isn't about which series is better blah blah, doesnt matter. Its all personal preference. I'm gonna play thru the campaign tonight and give some impressions on it later. Based on all the bashing its been getting from the media ill be goin in with low expectations, so i might actually love it lol.

Oh and dont get me started on bad company 2's singleplayer... that was the absolute worst pile of crap ever. It was essentially a shooting gallery with some ridiculous story element stringing all the different locations you go to together. It was essentially a chore to even complete it.

Guys I was talking about the Multiplayer not being as high quality as Reach or bad company 2. I agree the single player in those games was nothing on the level of the first Halo or Half Life 2 etc...

I'm sure Killzone 3 is gonna be a good game, after all while not a AAA game by scoring standards it's still got plenty of great elements, I'm just not so sure it's gonna keep me as captivated as some of the AAA shooters I've grown used to. I'd love to be wrong though.

I'm certainly gonna buy the game though as it's style and atmosphere alone are a big selling point for me. I liked the beta enough to know that even if not amazing, the MP will still be a good amount of fun for at least a month or two.

Got to agree i think the game looks GREAT!, but i'm dissapointed with the 85 Metacritic avg and reviews i've been reading. I'll still pick it up at some point when its cheaper or borrow it off a friend, as there are so many great games i have to buy this year.
GT5 got 84 but the sales they released yesterday is crazy lol

Hey idiot! *No not you Sath ;)* This game came on day one! YOU WERE WRONG AHAHAHA.

Anyway, I'm glad Amazon had a good deal on it because after reading Driftwood's full review I'm excited to play it.

Game's just OK so far for me. Control is fine now, but I just find the gameplay dull. Even though the models are higher poly and the textures are much improved, I still feel that KZ2 looked better. All the visual tricks 2 uses are very toned down in 3, and the AA is pretty bad (there is shimmer everywhere). There is some great stuff in there, and I like the cinematics far more in this one though. I've only played for about an hour, so hopefully it gets more exciting, but as it stands, the gameplay just isn't delivering so far, IMO. I think 85 is a fair score here...

Ok so I finished the game tonight. Overall I really liked it but its not perfect. It does a good job of keeping you on your toes with different gameplay scenarios. For instance one moment you could be in an intense firefight and the next you'll be manning a turret on a tank or wielding a sniper and picking off helghast snipers. The game is beautiful for the most part and at times looks like some kind of moving painting. The unfortunate part about how good it looks is that the sore spots really stick out. Namely, the AA they've implemented isn't perfect. There are multiple occasions where you'll be distracted by some really bad AA in certain parts of the scene. Its a weird trade off moving from QAA to MLAA in this game.. its less blurry and therefor easier on the eyes but some areas just look bad. The story is by far better than the last game. Cutscenes are GORGEOUS and the new bad guys (especially malcolm mcdowell, who is fucking great) are just as evil and maniacal as visari was. Sound is good for the most part but you'll notice some weird issues where lines will repeat or cut-out randomly. Maybe the most amazing part of the game is the soundtrack... its freaking epic. Oh, and no custom soundtracks (sorry Sath!) Umm... the game is probably a good 8-9 hours on veteran assuming you die a few times the first time through. The ending is... kinda crap but theres a nice cliffhanger (surprising i know) and it definitely leaves you wondering.

I played a few hours of MP late in the night and its as addicting as the beta was. Totally awesome class-based gameplay. I think they increased player health a tiny bit, but it might just be me overthinking things and sucking on occasion. My psnid = scoobs0688, add me and I'll show you how to play like a real tactician :)

There are seriously some WOW moments in this game, don't come in expecting a perfect experience and you will be blown away. If not just by the visuals, the epic battles you'll take part in. A few in particular are just MIND MELTING. Yes mind melting. My jaw was literally on the floor it was so ridiculously awesome. You will know what I'm talking about when you get there, thats all i'll say about that!

Nice impressions, thanks Scoobs.

I bought the game today, though its still unwrapped, deciding if I should open it or not (i was out and saw it on the shelf in a electronic store, yes I am weak LOL).

AA sounds bad, but meh.
The atmosphere and artstyle is what sold me on its "looks" and graphics is second for me, though it does lift the atmosphere and setting for sure.

The soundtrack, I just got it, holy shit its amazing, but I am not surprised considering Killzone 2 was amazing as well.
The music sounds like it is from Star Wars movies, some tracks truly feels like some epic scenes from Star Wars, John Williams would be proud.
About the custom music, yes I read, no support in SP nor MP. In SP I dont mind considering the music is fantastic, but I would love to use my favorite tracks from Killzone 2/3 for MP as well, I am VERY dissapointed in GG when they knew the fans would use the feature.
They better patch it in ASAP, along with those fixes.

Which comes to my question, did you download the "day one" patch GG mentioned? did they even uploaded it yet?

Anyways, I have the double 24h XP/all guns code and retro pack codes, but the game is still unwrapped so I dont know what to do, keep it or return it.
With Crysis 2 demo out and released next month and Dragon Age 2 so close to release and many more games coming, I am unsure if I will be playing it alot.

Anyways, thanks for the impressions Scoobs, I am sure those "mind melting" places are great, damn the atmosphere and artstyle, soooo good! (look and learn Crytek lol, NY, pff :P)

dont think they ran out of time, just didnt want to do it. hell, i think the only reason spit-screen co-op is in there is because it makes sense since there is 3D support. 3D renders 2 images for each eye, split screen renders 2 images for each player. if the game didnt have 3D, i doubt it would even have co-op tbh.

i'm happy there is split-screen tho, only type of co-op i play.

I still don't buy the line that 3d is rendering 2 times the info. I bet it's more like Interlacing, which is why 3d stuff is never as clear. I bet split-screen has pretty degraded gaphics too. Split-screen co-op is lame, imo. My brother and I always try to play together but we live on opposite sides of town- Online co-op should always take precedence over split-screen. I'm not some teen-ager that can have my friends all together at the same time...

of course it renders everything twice. it's why the resolution, framerate and LOD take such an impact. i think it's a worthwile impact for the 3D, but an impact non the less. similarly, split screen is rendering an even smaller resolution for each player.

i prefer split screen. i'd take split screen over online co-op any day, in any game. pisses me off when a game (crackdown for example) doesnt have split screen, but does have online. makes it shit for people who hang out with firends on a regular basis. i mean, what are you supoed to do? take turns playing co-op with someone on the net....not quite as fun.

also, in what weird world do you live in where you have to be a teenager to hang out with your firends?

Well, with busy lives, and not living near each other, driving across town to play games with friends/family becomes a chore. I get my gaming done late at night usually. I'm married, have kids. My brother (who I game with mostly) lives 40 minutes across town. I have friends all around the country (Army does that), and if I get together with friends, it's usually not at someone's house. I like being able to have the whole screen with full detail. Hell even if We do get together to do some gaming, we always link 'em anyway because we like having full screens.
As to the 3d gaming, I have to admit that I've never had the chance to, but I was under the impression that the only thing that takes a visual hit is the resolution (being that shutter glasses alternate eyes at a high framerate.

detail takes a hit too usually. motorstorm in 3D looks like motorstorm in 2 player split screen (uses the same lower res textures) wipeout takes a hit in framerate (60 to 30) and resolution (1080 to 720) detail stays the same, COD took an obvious hit in resolution and framerate. you could argue that the consoles arnt up to doing 3D. and in a way, you'd be right, they can't do 3D while retaining a HD image (game wise anyway), but when a lot of games can't retain a HD image anyway in regular 2D, and the increased immersion added by having 3D, it's a worthy sacrafice imo. in the same way i think the added detail and sharpness in K3 is worth the less perfect AA method.

games do take a pretty hard hit tho, but then the consoles is rendering something twice. it's bound to happen. the only time consoles have had to do that in the past is with split screen games, and even then you have a lower res imagine, shown in a much smaller window on the screen, and so you dont notice. with 3D, it's typically for one player only, meaning that lower res, lower framrate image is being stretched to fit the 1080p screen. it has a noticably lower quality image (especially distant objects, which have a UE3 like shimer). some people might not be able to see past that, but to have snow, and tracer fire coming out of the screen in K3...as i said. i think it's worth it.

Completed Killzone 3, very good campaign IMO, some boring parts but some were great, nice sci fi moments.

Dialogue was decent, good they reduced alot of swearing from KZ2, music was amazing as always, some set pieces was awesome while others were meh.

I know I said Killzone is a typical run and gun, but thanks to the slide and infinite sprint, I was playing it like Bulletstorm meets Vanquish LOL.
I was sprinting, shooting, sprint, sliding to cover, jumping across cover and sprint close to a helghast and sliding to avoid enemy fire and went in for the brutal melee.

A game like Killzone that sint suppose to be fast I got to say, I made the game much more faster, even my sister was shocked how fast I was playing and doing my "one man army" stuff, I loved doing that.
Multiplayer should definitely have slide, no idea why they removed it. The slide isnt a gamebreaker if it was in MP, its not like you would slide alot like in Crysis 2, Bulletstorm or Vanquish.
Nice feature really.

I give the game a 9/10.
Great campaign, really enjoyed the characters and nice performance from Malcom and Ray Winston (now bring Brian Cox back!), nice sci fi set pieces, especially near the end.
Multiplayer is great, if only they fixed a few minor issues, it is much more enjoyable than Killzone 2 MP thats for sure.

I hated the on-rail sequences, really annoying IMO.
Except the one that is in the demo and near the end of the game (i liked the one near the end because it was in space! which there was more. I hated the scrapyard levels, ugly and just very annoying. Loved the snow levels.
I REALLY loved the Helghast HQ were you infiltrate their base, awesome atmosphere and artstyle

I am glad I kept it, dont know how much I will play it once more games come out, but I am sure I will play it from time to time when I am in mood for awesome Killzone style, which I am certain it will be alot!

PS. Graphics + Killzone atmosphere + artstyle + sci fi + music = Wow!
