You must be delusional if you believe that a franchise like Halo, Cod, or whatever franchise that are heavily based on multiplayer would let you pay for the mp mode, same goes for any type of game that would leave an integral part out just to sell it later.

This is like saying, hey here you have resident evil, but you can't play the game without buying the main character first.
Even if they left out mercenaries, it wouldn't be an integral (read necessary for completeness) part that was left out. Simply because RE isn't about that, its about the narrative.

Saying something like always has been is really wrong aswell, that's like saying the engine of a 86 toyota sprinter trueno is harder or just as hard to build as the one in the 2009 nissan GT-R.
As technology furthers, far more time and effort is needed to build assets for a new game, or do you think the models in UT99 takes as much time to build as the ones in Gears of War or Crysis?

Building a good 10000 polygon model takes far more time then a 500 polygon one (obviously), then all the time that goes into making the million polygon models in zbrush or mudbox for normal maps.

This brings us back to the simple thing called time, every game project is tied to deadlines and these are pretty strict. If they had -such- an easy time just packing these games with content, why do you think games get delayed a lot?
Or why Namco pulled Splatterhouse from bottlerocket?
Deadlines. Heard of crunch time? No? Look it up. (hint, its taxing as fuck on the developers).

The bottom line is as games get more technologically advanced, everything takes far more time and money to build, yet here we have RE5 which basically offers everything RE4 had and more, looks stunning and delivers on everything integral, yet people want to get paranoid about this versus mode?

Capcom worked their asses of to deliver this stellar production and the only concession they made was to make the game shorter then RE4, simply because the game wouldn't be out right now if they aimed to make it as long, which they prolly did, but scrapped a long the way....the term for that in the industry is called "kill your darlings" and it hurts when you have to, but deadlines are deadlines.

Then aside from this all is money, these are still huge companies that operate in the entertainment industry, ofcourse they -want- to make money.

I'm not really defending these business models, but Capcom and every other big company really don't care about the bitching and moaning about some dlc, they only care about their fiscal years, which are 99% driven by the actual game sales.
So bitch all you want, it really isn't going to change anything, unless you stop buying the games all together, if anything episodic content could become more frequent, since that relieves some of the time constraints the developers have.

Nothing should be considered to be free, not in the entertainment industry.

I'd be delusional to think it would happen in today's gaming climate, but it's not delusional to think that it could happen in the future.
Saying something like always has been is really wrong aswell, that's like saying the engine of a 86 toyota sprinter trueno is harder or just as hard to build as the one in the 2009 nissan GT-R.
Your analogy makes no sense.

I've already said that my issue isn't specifically with this versus mode as it's not something I'm remotely interested in playing at all.
Capcom worked their asses of to deliver this stellar production
No doubt, and the game is great. I've never said anything to the contrary.
So bitch all you want, it really isn't going to change anything, unless you stop buying the games all together, if anything episodic content could become more frequent, since that relieves some of the time constraints the developers have.
First off, since when does bitching on the internet require some kind of anticipation that it'll change anything? I mean, are you expecting your bitching about other people's bitching to stop them from bitching? Second, if games are produced in such a manner where I don't really have the whole game until I shell out extra, you can bet your ass I'm definitely going to stop buying them. I'm certainly not above piracy if I feel I'm getting screwed as a consumer.

Since you largely misread most of my post, I don't see the worth of debating this any further, but I will say that you wouldn't be screwed over.
You may expect certain things from a product, but that product completely relies on time, effort, money and skill in relation to deadlines. Its not a machine that is making it.

And you're crazy if you think that at $60, coupled with the rate that this game is selling, that they aren't making bank on their product without gouging their customers. This stuff is dirty despite the attempt to spin it in any other fashion. DLC is a sham, but don't worry, we're all part of the problem. Lets keep on feeding them dollar bills like the whole world isn't in a recession!

People shouldn't forget its all business, but in the end you will still buy the capcom game. Why? because they pump in years of effort and a shitload of money into the development of a game.
The production values of this game are pretty much the highest in the industry at the moment.
So complain all you want about that "gamers" shouldn't stand up for this, but it isn't the "gamers" that are buying content like this, instead "gamers" go onto forums and blogs to bitch and moan about something nobody is forcing them to buy.

Hey no extra costumes in SF4? Sure its kind of a dick move, but would those costumes suddenly make the game that much better? Heck some of them are worse then the standard.
And please don't tell me you bought RE5 to get a wonderfull adversial experience.
I mean most of the people are even bitching about that it wouldn't be fun anyway to play a "mobile turret", then why even bitch an moan that it isn't in the game in the first place? Is it so bad to just play single/coop/mercs?
Gamers now are just spoiled and expect a game to be filled with tons of content even if they won't use some of it at all.

Excluding patches, nothing should be considered to be free, everything costs money to make even if it is just a few lines of code. If something is free be happy, if it isn't well either get it or don't.

To think that a game like RE5 doesn't sell enough to p<y the bills is just silly, hence making the VS DLC a complete dick move as it was obviously finished in time for release.

this is how i imagine the scenario:

team member:Oh, hai guys, we have this cool new VS mode in the game now and it's pretty fun!

Fat rich guy drinking sauce Bearnaise from a glass: Dude, wtf!? Lock that shit so we can sell it two weeks after release! Daddy needs a new pair of shoes!

To be fair i think you ALL have valid points, RE has NEVER been about MP hence your not really missing out on any vital element of the main game if your a fan, but also to only enable MP if you pay an extra $$ is a rip off, i mean if you got MP out of the box and further down the line you were charged for extra maps then fair enough, but to completely have MP missing unless you pay is IMO wrong.

Wow, I don't see the big deal here, If you decide not to buy the DLC your not missing out on much and that applies to pretty much any game outside of map packs.

If you don't like something (or the idea of spending more money) don't buy it, nobody is forcing you.

Yea but the thing is, had they released RE5 with no DLC you would be none the wiser and the game would feel no less complete, I think you are just whining for whining sake.

Once again...for what has to be the third time at least... it has nothing to do with RE5 specifically.

If you don't think that there's a possibility that we'll start getting less and less complete games in the future because of what game companies are getting away with nowadays, then there's no point in even trying to discuss it.

There is always the possibility, but I think developers have to provide enough content to warrent a purchase.

If there is no value for money then the consumer will stop buying the product.

Please. There is not a possibility. It's been a damned fact of life already for most of this generation. And just saying, "don't like it, don't buy it!" isn't a logical way to stop people from talking about it--if you don't like people talking about it, don't join in on the conversation! ;)

Usually free DLC generates nicely sales... at least I read Valve made lots of money by that way, keeps the players happy too. Free content FTW!

From my experience map packs are just a bad idea

Aside from Halo 3, they're rarely played and aren't even really in much rotation within the game you buy it for
