I know I totally agree with you there. It would be better for existing owners of the game to have it available as DLC. Hopefully they will if they have any sense, as I'm not gonna pay full whack on an update. I also hope they get rid of the new user friendly dragon punch command as well. I mean DF,DF just interferes with my ultras and supers.

OK Guys hit the link for the proper info on SSF4. Looks like its gonna be a retail disk as they couldn't patch the existing code. It's gonna be out in spring 2010. People that have got the first game will also get a treat for buying this one. The only downside is that it will be full price.

EDIT: Just finished reading the article and it says at the end it won't be full price, which is a relief.

I'm fairly certain that Capcom does not understand the concept of "over saturation". Does SFIV really need updating this fast?

Further more, you'd expect them to be smart enough to have some goddamn patch support for the game. I hope this bombs, not becuase i hate SF (even though i sort of do), but bcause it's such a dick move from Capcom. It's Left 4 Dead 2 all over again.

Well from reading the article it looks like that they built the game in a way that couldn't be extensively tweaked. Also they are adding moves, giving a new ultra for all characters and tweaking the gameplay in general to make it more balanced. The netcode will probably get overhauled as well as in it's current state it's shit.

So how is that an excuse? They coded the game so they couldn't update it. Brilliant, cause we all know that all fighters are always perfectly balanced in the first version. It's good that it won't be full priced but still. The game hasn't even been out for a year yet.

Well knowing how Capcom work with their fighters there is no excuse at all. Yoshinori Ono should of known this and made the game in a way that would be upgradeable for future updates. TBH though Capcom have always done this from SF2 and SF3. Also to answer your previous question about having an update out so fast. You remember the first SF3 came out in Feb 1997 then double impact came out in Oct 1997. That was 8 months apart from each other. As long as they can get SSF4 right this time we might not see an update so quickly next time.

That's just bad planning on Capcom's behalf. Fail.

edit: Joystick confirms 8 new characters, not 10? No actual roster information outside of T-Hawk and the new chica either. What gives.. more details plz!

Saw a video interview with the director confirming 8 new characters, nut only T-Hawk and "Juri" are confirmed. He said that the most requested characters will make comebacks.

WTF you guys are kidding right, you tolerate PES and other sports titles year in and year out but there hasn't been an SF game for 10 or so years and you flip out, calling the sequel to SF4 a rip off or DLC only!?! Unlike those annual sports titles this is a really a new game in the series not the 9th game of the decade(if it were an update it wouldn't have been called Super, Capcom would have stayed true to their usual way of titling the end ie turbo, dash, upper, X, gold etc). There's 8 new characters, character balancing so the tier list will change, new gameplay and most likely new moves for each character (ie doesn't play like vanilla SFIV), it won't be full priced game, DeeJay and Adon!! Some how you guys still go off on one, sorry but thats dumb unless you didn't know this????? Destructoid made a special article for you please read carefully - http://www.destructoid.com/guide-how-to-stfu-about...

Here is the teaser trailer that includes footage of Dee Jay. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ApfS4HKCAo

Ono promises a special treat for those that purchased SFIV originally. (Hopefully this means console exclusive characters).

Well according to Moby Games Capcom has, since 1999 released a whopping 13 street fighter games.
So let's begin, shall we?

1999: SF3: Double Impact.

2000: Pocket fighter, Street Fighter EX2 plus, Street Fighter EX3, SF3 third strike.

2001: Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo Revival.

2003: Hyper Street Fighter 2 anniversary edition.

2004: Street Fighter anniversary collection,

2006: Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX, Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting, Street Fighter Alpha Antology.

2008: Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix.

2009: Street Fighter 4.

All in all though, no less than 32 freaking SF games/versions are listed on Moby Games. If that isn't the goddamn definition of milking a series for every penny it's worth i don't know what is.

Actually, Moby Games lists all multi paltform releases of a game as a single post, so no. Unless it's a different release they are all crammed in to the same one. I even discounted the special edition of SFIV to be fair.

Feel free to ahve a look yourself:

1) I don't care about sports games.
2) If you can't see why the DLC path for this kind of content makes sense.. then I don't know what to say. I think Capcom is being short sighted.. but how can you fail to see why the consumer might demand this upgrade (keyword: upgrade, not sequel!) be presented as an add-on?
3) ...
(Hopefully this means console exclusive characters)
LOL -- WUT!?

I fully intend to buy it, but forcing another version of Street Fighter 4 down my throat, even at a discount, seems silly in this day and age. If the game truly can't be patched for this sort of upgrade, than Capcom isn't very forward thinking. It doesn't make sense, even from their end, to waste manufacturing dollars on content they could have distributed for next to nothing to existing users. A retail version, along side a DLC release would have made everyone happy and Capcom would still have made big bucks.

milking? I agree it looks that way for sure, but there was a demand for it because of the the death of the dreamcast and the raise of the new consoles and arcade boards during those times, namely the XBox, PS2, PSP, GameBoyAdvanced, and now the XBox360 and PS3 they made a lot of money doing it, money that was probably used to fund the development of new resident evil, devil may cry, lost planet and finally convince the Capcom execs that the world would like to see a brand new SF game. OH and Capcom didn't make the EX series that was Arika.

@GriftGFX I agree it would be nice to have an option for DLC, but I would prefer having a hard copy of the game anyway. It means tournaments will run alot smoother everyone having the same game content and also not worrying about disk space.

But saying that I believe adding 10 new characters and the new gameplay will change the game dramatically enough to warrant selling it as a new game. Like I said before come release SSF4 will have been in development for 2 years. Look at games like Tekken or Soul Calibur who release new games but just add 5 new characters 3 of which are just devil versions of the original, copy other game's ideas then selling to you. At atleast Capcom know how to keep it fresh.
