So in proving its originality you're showing us X-men shots? :)

Don't worry, I'm just pulling your hair a little.

Yeah I manage to avoid hype with games pretty much all the time, hence my point about me applying it to movies usually.
I said originality in games, it is pretty original to me. Every game can be compared to another, it is the small details that counts.
Halo is a sci-fi FPS...done 1000 of times, but yet everybody loves it. Enhanced soldier, alien war...etc. Gears, samething without enhancement.

But yeah I know what you mean with hype thing.

I seriously do not care anymore to defend this game, because I have noticed that there is A LOT of fans of this new version out there, just like Lost Planet...it is gonna be a sleeper hit with tons of fans on it's official site forum and all.

But what really bugs me is that they come and bash a game they haven't played it or have seen a glimpse of it, and then just leave it to that. I did the same thing long time ago, but I learned from my mistakes that I shouldn't give a comment to a game I do not like and let the fans enjoy it without anyone jump in and ruin the "spirit" for them.

Even if I would give a comment, I would always say something positive and good about it, and that's it.

That is exactly what I hope so too. I prefer sci-fi more than horror. But what is sci-fi anyway? it could be anything. But because Steve Sinclair already it won't be like 10 000 years into the future with spaceships and all, and that they want it to be similar to modern but yet unreal.

My best guess would be like Half-Life 2, Deus Ex Invisible War, PDZ, Avalon kind of thing were there is a lot extreme high-tech futuristic stuff, but no robots (drones maybe) and aliens.

Here is for example how modern but yet futuristic Avalon is.

If you just remove the simulation aspect of it were when something gets destroyed it gets into pieces and all, then I hope Dark Sector at some point would be as cool as this.

If anything is like that, then the game is then more than I hoped for.

I doubt that's what they are going for and it's especially miles away from anything like Deus Ex.

I remember one of the devs saying that they changed to this theme to make the main character stand out a bit more, which I think is just a lame excuse and I definitely don't think it's necessary to do so to make the character stand out.
I mean, it's sci-fi...you can make it as crazy as you want, it shouldn't be that difficult to make the character stand out a bit more...

I agree with you Jato completely. I mean if you are making a game and the story is based off a man that evolves, of course he is gonna stand out and make him look very cool and all, it depends how you represent it.

What is very exciting is that he did say that the sci-fi elements are completely in it, and that is a big twist in the game that they haven't revealed yet. Out speculations could be like, anything really.

Speaking of Russia and soviet and destruction, this game is somewhat interesting of Dark Sector might be, and I mean the city and it's past of course.

We just have to know what DE is going for. We need more gameplay and background story rather images.

I would say it is less Deus Ex and more Half-Life 2. Because when I played HL2 it was like modern destroyed world with advanced technology. I would be fine if it was like HL2, that game is awesome.
I just love Alyx Vance, and I read a interview that Steve Sinclair mentioned Half-Life 2 inspiration for Dark Sector, and by having some sort of a "guide" like Alyx Vance.

Can't wait!

Hmmm, if so they really should start showing this stuff now before a lot of people drop this one of the radar.

I personally don't "need" this game to be more sci-fi, I have Mass Effect for my sci-fi fix. but I kind of get the idea they're not quite sure where to head with this game.

And yeah I agree, they really need to release more footage and info to show what they are going for.
As of now it seems like they're not really sure what they are going for themselves.

edit: If it's even half the game Half-Life 2, is it will be awesome. ;)
But yeah, that would be cool indeed, having these sort of alien structures and shit mixed in between...

Well I won't be dropping this off my radar because the theme looks great to me and Hayden looks awesome.

But I don't want a pure sci-fi game, like you said Mass Effect covers that.

But Steve said that it is "couple" of years into the future, so my guess is like 2015-2020 or something, which will have pretty much a very good "futuristic" stuff to it.

For example Crysis is set in 2020 and it has a lot of awesome futuristic elements to it but yet it looks modern for some reason. I guess that it is going for that Half-Life 2 / Crysis (non alien) kind of thing.

And I do agree that they need to show more footages form the game...although this game wont be out like in October so that is a very long way to go.
I think that they know what they are doing, but they are just making sure that it is good and perfect for the next footage.

Yeah, I'm not dropping this of my radar either, if it does turn out more like a horror game that's fine as well.

I guess we'll just have tow wait and see...

For instance, what if the game won't have that kind of a sci-fi element that we thought it would have...if the story and gameplay and such are good, why pass the game away.

So far I think the story is very cool, and the theme and great because I love post-apocalyptic destroyed cities, just feels like a big war has been unleashed long time ago, and you are there alone to see what has gone wrong.
And Hayden looks very cool.

I just wish the futuristic view will be like Half-Life 2, were the "survivors" were like cargo clothes and have modified broken pieces into new ones as weapons, gadgets...etc.

Jato...just in case you missed the latest interview from GDC...

http://www.psu.com/node/8952

During GDC, PSU attended many interesting lectures and many “sexy parties”, but nothing came close to the meeting with Digital Extremes and the behind closed doors viewing of Dark Sector. This article follows on from our first preview of the game written by Chief Ed - Jase.

To get you started, Dark Sector is a 3rd person action game where you play as a CIA Agent sent into an Eastern Europe city named Lasria to extract information. Your character’s name is Hayden Tenno, a ruthless killer that shows no mercy or remorse towards his foes. Attacked by an unknown enemy, he awakens to find part of his body altered by an infection, granting him inhuman abilities.

From watching the developer play the game we noticed some of the following things about Dark Sector:

- Unique style of wall cover: What was interesting about this is that instead of having your character completely move out of cover, exposing your whole body, you can peek out with just half your head and use one arm to aim and fire your gun.

- No HUD: Dark Sector removes traditional on-screen elements such as health bars and ammo meters, instead using the character himself as the HUD. As the character takes damage he will begin to physically show it, ammunition levels will be displayed on guns, available weapons and inventory will be displayed on the character – all serving to keep the player focused on the character and the gameplay.

- Unique Puzzle Solving: Using the glaive to solve puzzles will be key in Dark Sector. For example certain boxes are explosive and by throwing your fire glaive into them. This will cause an explosion either clearing a path or opening a new area.

- Gore: Dark Sector showcases lots and lots of gore. Everything from decapitation to stealthy neck breaking, Dark Sector holds nothing back in earning their “M” rating.

Outside of the amazing gameplay, Digital Extremes answered a few question for PSU as well. Here is what we found out:

- Release Date for Dark Sector is planned to be sometime around Fall 2007.
- They plan to release a demo on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network before release.

- There will be a Super Villain in the storyline, which they have yet to unveil.
- Innovative Multiplayer Component; Details to be revealed at a later date.
- The violence is only half of what the “M” rating is for.
- Dark Sector has been built entirely from the ground up on Digital Extremes in-house engine.

We would like to thank Digital Extremes again for inviting PSU to their private suite during GDC to share with us Dark Sector and from the looks of it, Dark Sector is going to blow gamers minds!
