Of course, it's not the first trumping Gears of War has given the Bungie shooter franchise in the last 12 months. The 360 opus has already overtaken the mighty Halo 2 as the most popular game on Xbox Live.

It's a remarkable achievement for a debut franchise and sales are showing no sign of slowing - but Gears still has a way to go before it's crowned as the best selling Xbox game of all time. For that, it would have to beat the record set by the second Halo game, which has thus far managed to flog over eight million copies worldwide.

I dont think it will, because sales of 360's will be slow until Halo 3 comes out. By that time GOW will be a distant memory.

I would like to know if that 16 million sales figure is with the expansion packs included. Usually when the SIMS is talked about it is included with expansion packs.

5 Million of Halo 1?

Lies.

I'm sure Bungie said a while ago that Halo 1 had sold more than 7million copies. and that Halo 2 had surpassed that number. Perhaps the 7 mil includes the PC version?

If thats true then, that would mean almost 2 million copies of Halo 1 had been sold on PC.

I'd still say that GoW would have to best that 7 million number before they are true contenders.

IE 50% of xbox owners bought Halo 1.
