How many DOES forge support? :)

16?
Hmmm I thought online co-op was locked and obviously it isn't, so this could change too and I'll be better off not saying what I heard case it does. It'll be a decent number either way.

Wild shot in the dark. 8 people and you'll be able to save each forge configuration online (bungie's computers similar to video editor files) and people will be able to go through a list of other user's different forged maps and play on them with up to 16 people if they want (but they wont be able to mess with the configuration) Only the user can go in there and make changes to it.

right click save target as. More audio of the presentation and this stuff is more amazing as you hear practically EVERYTHING. I really love what I'm hearing it sounds great. Great sound effects and sounds pretty immersive even without the music or being able to see it.

You hear marine's whispering, you hear johnson communicating to chief you also hear a brute interrogating a marine. Very intelligent sounding convo throughout.

Acert, deftangel adressed most things, but I still have something to answer:

Posted by Acert93
Ok, so your knee jerk reaction does absolutely nothing to validate your point because my point was very specific: very few -- few, not none -- excell to the same level from one generation to the next. Meaning as you transition to one generation to the next many titles drop off in sales and as well as quality. A classic list can be seen from the PS1 to PS2 transition that underpins this trend.
No, it wasn't knee jerk reaction. I gave you an example of sequel that was done right but not innovative. Most series you listed not only were becoming antique, but they also had serious decline in quality with each iteration. People after playing a Crash game on PS2 will still enjoy Crash 1-3 much more than Crash on PS2. On the other hand most people who played Halo 3 Beta state that they have very hard time going back to Halo 2.
No, you actually trash HL2 a lot. I have been able to praise the good things Halo has done (namely incorperating a lot of known, existing FPS elements and balancing them well in an FPS as well as defining the prope controls for console FPS controls, a great story, strong online support, etc) as well as the negatives.

As for the Episodic content, it isn't a full retail release and never is packaged as such. It is an expansion."
Isn't it sort of double standard on your side? We're 3 years after Halo 2, but we're also 3 years after Half-Life 2. The Episodes trilogy was meant to "replace" Half-Life 3. Why do you demand innovation from Bungie, but Valve is still ok? I thought you value Valve way higher than Bungie, so your expectations from that team should be higher, too...

Back to Halo 3. Some of this info sounds great. I can't wait to fight these Brutes using Invincibility Equipement. Should be damn tough.
Will Arbiter acompany MC in all levels (even in non-coop mode?). I'd prefer to play some parts of the game alone.
I'm not excited about Forde though, maybe when I'll see it in motion it'll convince me.

The Episodes trilogy was meant to "replace" Half-Life 3.
Woah, what? Since when? There's six years between Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2 -- I don't expect Half-Life 3 until 2010 at the earliest. The Episode trilogy is a stopgap.. hopefully. Episode 1 came out in 2006, a brief two years after the original release of Half-Life 2.

If there is a Half-Life 3, expect it to be the same sort of jump we see between HL1 and HL2, which is a fucking huge leap in both gameplay and technology.. for better or worse. New engine, new story, new core gameplay mechanics that reshape the franchise completely. I don't expect any less from Valve. Oh -- and probably the best platform for the mod community yet.

We should really stop this Half-Life versus Halo nonsense. They're very difficult products to compare really. I can't fault Valve though, and I honestly think that there is certain aspects of Half-Life that are easily superior to Halo -- but here's the thing -- Bungie is creating something completely different. They certainly didn't aim to reinvent Halo with each new installment, it's more of a refresh..

There are some aspects of the gameplay that I find to be a little antiquated, particularly when it comes to player movement, but what I will give Halo 3 is that it's doing much more for the franchise than Halo 2 ever did. As I've already said, Halo 2 didn't really push the franchise forward at all -- it mostly gave us dual wielding and a plasma sword -- and in exchange for such minimal improvements we got an awesome online component.

At least they're giving us more gameplay components (Weapons, Equipment, Vehicles, etc) and more variety in the process. Is it all we could ever ask for? No, it's probably not, but never the less by the standards they're following it's shaping up to be a solid sequel.

Just to add, the saved films / file sharing features will do a huge amount to push the franchise forward as well. They'll be a huge boost to the machinima community who can now do a lot more than before. Forge allows for emergent gameplay and for those concepts to be shared. Come up with a cool new game using Halo 3? Upload your modified Forge map and gametype settings and share with the masses.

We're not even talking about the Bungie.net features yet, uploading screenshots, stats etc. There's a huge amount of community features here. The franchise will be pushed forwards by sustaining and growing the community around it.

Indeed. Bummer. Gabe wants to retire by 2010? That's just lazy.. hopefully Valve has actually come to their senses and has been developing a follow up engine this whole time, regardless of the fate of Half-Life.

No need to be sarcastic. Of course there'll be a *brand new* Half Life at some point. Still, if Halo 3 was renamed Halo 2: More halo stuff, then that would still have "replaced" Halo 3.

Much like Pandora Tomorrow was never really Splinter Cell 2, but then when Montreal's real sequel was due, they put a 3 on it to avoid confusion.

I wasn't being sarcastic -- Gabe actually said that if they followed the Half-Life 2 schedule for part three it would ship after they all had retired :)

Source being the last project with Newell at the helm would be a travesty. I hope he realizes that.

From Frank

Speaking of hype, folks on gaf who read anything I say about Halo will know that I am generally fair minded and inclined to denounce megatons, reduce expectations and generally downplay Halo stuff, but I have to say, and just this once - I am genuinely, positively excited to play the game in its current state - and I am almost giddy with excitement to share it with you guys when it's released.

The feature set, the balance, the look and feel, the surprises you still don't know about, (or fully understand) everything. It's the best thing we've ever made.

And now back to our regularly scheduled downplaying of expectations.
Always up for some more surprises :)

Yeah, Halo 3 should be the best Halo game... especially if levels don't have repetetive corridors this time around.

Shane Kim confirms that Bungie won't make Halo 4, but they'll do a different game in Halo universe. I hope the'll make a completely new IP, too (Marty O'Donell mentioned once about Bungie splitting into 2 teams in future).

If it isn't Halo though what exactly would would they possibly do in the Halo Universe? Perhaps they'll concentrate more now on specific soldiers and marines as opposed to Spartans and go from there? No longer fighting against Covenant enemies I assume? Not totally sure on this whole thing really, but I'd be very interested in seeing what they come up with.

They could do pretty much anything in the Halo universe, the possibilities are nearly endless. That's almost like asking, "How could they possibly make a Star Wars spinoff?" ;)

I hope they do something other than an FPS next personally.. something other than Halo hopefully. But I guess with the success they've met here that's pretty unlikely.

Forge = Frankie's Mod or LittleBigHalo! :D

Can't wait for that, as for co-op Frankie is dismissive of the "no online co-op OMG" nonsense so I expect another revelation down the line of just what it entails (especially if the Arbiter and Chief get separated, you might have to play separately but in the same theater of combat to help each other out)
