Portal trailer

Portal trailer

Valve just released this first trailer of Portal, their very experimental first person puzzle game announced with the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Half Life 2/Team Fortress 2. Clearly Prey gave the Valve developers some very nice ideas about how use this cool technology.

This looks awesome. I already got HL2 for the Xbox, but with Ep 1 and 2 with and TF 2 and Portal, I'm sure gonna buy it.

nice. Same, i thought it was a prey knock off, but it makes it so different that you have the ability to actually choose where to put them. That looks really nice... So im guessing the single player will be challenges like that, but the multiplayer could be very interesting!

I just love the graphics of the weapon. Looks so real, kind of like the scene from the Doom movie were it goes FPS.

But one thing though, no shooting? just puzzle stuff? kind of weak because the graphics are just beautiful especially the weapon view and the physics are awesome and as well.

Looks immense.

Pretty amazing physics.

I'm a little scared of some of the puzzles though, that player must know the levels well, because it looks pretty damn confusing on some bits.
dude, im exactly the same, i was tryin to figure it out the whole way through the trailer!
at least its got singleplayer (maybe just single player!) so no one can see me and you bugger up for a few days lol!

o btw, this package is the one 360 game/thing thats got me REALLY excited!

in my list its above gears, halo 3 etc...

Unfortunately, it seems that the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions won't include Team Fortress 2, which will be part of the PC combo.
Dunno what that means for Portal, but I hope its still in Console version.

Looks pretty good, if somewhat confusing.

wow I would have paid for this alone. But couple this with Episode 1, 2, the original classic Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2 and this! WOW. The graphics rock, but I'm very scared of whether I'll be able to figure this one out. The idea of a portal gun rocks, then it seems it also functions as a gravity gun too. Can't wait.

Man i would definitly pay money just for this game alone :D must be the first time in years im excited about a puzzle game!

This looks insane, that gun especially just looks fantastic!
Obviously it doesn't have many enviromental stuff going on, but everything else is just spot on!
The motion blur, animations, framerate, overal feeling, etc...
I really hope they build a FPS around this with a story and all, but it looks like it's just basicly a first person puzzle game, pity....

Taken from the original press release via GameSpot;

"Team Fortress 2 and Portal will be included with all retail and Steam versions of Episode Two for the PC. In addition, these products plus Half-Life 2 and Episode One will be available in one tremendous offering for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. New videos from Episode Two, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 will be released next week. "

Seems both Portal and Team Fortress 2 will be included in the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Half Life 2

Not only does that look fun, but the graphics are incredible. I didn't the Source engine could pump out stuff like that.

Maybe it's because the enviroments are so small and low poly.

What people don't get is that this is :
-an expiriment
-a puzzle game

so the lack of action can be forgiven, as with the weird bland graphics at places.

The 4 people behind this game at the DigiPen school now work at Valve.

exactly, this project was started up on a homemade engine way back in 2003-4 or sumthing. If anything, the prey developers got the inspiration from Portal, not the other way around.

Prey originally went into developement back in 1998 at 3D Realms. They demoed the game at E3, WITH PORTALS, but it was running on old tech. Shortly after it's demonstration things went bad and the project was shelved. So the world knew about Prey long before this thing.

Actually, the Prey portal concept has been around and public for almost ten years. Not sure if they ever planned on giving the player as full control over them as N Drop and Portal do, but Prey's portaling system was shown off back in '97 while the game itself was started in '95...

Who cares who did what first, this game looks AWSOME. Its like messing with dimensions.

Exactly.

It looks amazing, though I'm having trouble beliving all 5 games come in that one package. But if so, bring it.

I just hope most console gamers will play Half-Life 2 and both Episodes in the correct order, so they can properly follow the story.. Valve should probably 'lock' the Episodes until the player finishes Half-Life 2, then unlock Episode 1, and last to unlock would be Episode 2 after Episode 1 is finished.. Just like levels are locked in any game bassicly.. If I was in charge at Valve I would do that in the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game..

Team Fortress 2 and Portal can be played seperatly at any time offcourse, nothing to do with Half-Life 2 or any story..

  • digi_matrix
digi_matrix Paranormal Activity was insane, totally deserves being the most profiting indie film ever made. I saw the original version, not the theatrical one. WAY BETTER! (4 Hours ago)

SimonM7 Nope, no such prestige I'm afraid. Just 1½ year of comic making and ICQ channel community on quakenet of all places. :) 2002 doesn't sound far back but it's soon 8 years ago. Time sure does roar past. (10 Hours ago)

Megido Did you make comics and stuff for kong back in the day? The art looks similar :) (11 Hours ago)

SimonM7 Thanks :D and yeah I do. M7 was originally a webcomic, and the idea now is to make it a bit of an entertainment blog in general and a webcomic. Only done two strips so far since I rebooted it in may. (12 Hours ago)
