Def Jam Icon videos

Def Jam Icon videos

Electronic Arts released this producer commented video of Def Jam: Icon showcasing the directional fighting system. Technically this game is really good looking.
Update: Added a second video showing the DJ Control system allowing the player to use the music during the fight.

Isn't there meant to be a demo of this on XBL soon?

@ Drunkenshaolin, well you can grab and throw characters, as I've seen in movies on IGN.

@ twoism: Yes :)

I hope Kudo is in the game, I want to punch him in the face.

the game does look great.. still i miss Def Jam 2's fighting system and approach.

Is anyone else not a fan of the analog stick gameplay mechanics? I prefer the button and directional pad methods to fight.

The use of the right analog stick to pull of fighting moves isn't something i prefer, even for fight night round 3, i switched to config 3 and used the buttons and directional pad to unleash moves. And online i got my ass kicked as i couldn't swap the controls to config 3.

Def jam 2 had an awesome fighting system and i loved using the button and directional pad to unleash some bone crunching combos.. It's going to take me ages to get into the right analog stick mechanics

Looks pretty good.

It bothers me allot that you can actually kick your opponent through the room with one kick!

Def Jam fight for NY was awesome, i just hope this is up to par in terms of gameplay, i'm not 2 happy with all the moving deathtraps/background

ya i know you can do a simple throw, just read me first post,
but i mean to grapple and body slam or do some sick move like you could do in the old Def jam`s games that we come to expect. Thats what made that game fun....

It will be interesting to see how the PS3 version fares against the 360 version. This time they didnt have 10 months to finetune the game for the PS3 like they had with FNR3 (and yet as according to gamespot, the PS3 version was inferior in the backgrounds (lack of texture RAM) and only added more damage details and skin detail (veins) unrelated to texture resolution.

wow, the graphics are definitly eye-opening. it's a shame that there's no 80ies glam-metal-version of this :(

It's a shame they had to mess up a perfectly alright game with this idea just because they thought the draw of Def Jam was its Def Jam-ness. :(

I like the thought of a musical fighting game (though not with this MTV style execution) but I loved this game for what it used to be; a gritty create-your-style fighting game set in clubs and underground arenas with a distinct visual style and gut wrenchingly physical and viceral moves. Now it's.. Celebrity Death Match set in MTV animations. Which is fine! But they effectively erased the direction the series was going in before, and now there's nothing there in its place.

Bizarre Creations' "The Club" might fill that void though maybe? I admit I don't know a lot about that game.

"The Club" is a shooter. It follows sort of a Running Man/Manhunt type of story.

Oh really!? Well... okay then.

*lets the depression in the door*

Well, the TNA game will probably adopt something closer to the aki-style fight system in fight for NY. Though I am really dissapointed with how the combat in this game is looking.

i also dont like how the combat is done in the game. i was expecting something similar to def jam 2 controls-wise :(

I'll be intrigued to see what the next Fight Night looks like after seeing this.

Holy shit this game looks good! I'm not into the gameplay much myself, but this looks CG. I am blown away! The mo-cap(I assume it's mo-cap) transitions are sooooo smooth and realistic. I can't even believe how good the animations look. And everything else looks amazing too. EA made this? Wow.

EA Chicago has to be one of the most talented studios EA has, if not the most talented.. FNR3 looked awesome, and this looks very nice aswell.. And it's not all looks aswell, they're actually good games (at least FNR3 was, so I presume DJI will be aswell)..
Commented on 2007-02-06 11:50:57
Well, people don't generally want to admit it, but EA Big and Criterion consistently produce solid efforts aswell.

How to kill a perfectly good (and amazingly fun) game..?

Watch and learn...
