EA give you Wing Commander Arena

EA give you Wing Commander Arena

EA is putting a new game in the classic Wing Commander series on Xbox Live Arcade this summer, giving it both single and 16-player multiplayer modes. Wing Commander Arena will be developed by Gaia Industries, who also develops the upcoming XBLA title Street Trace: NYC. First images inside.

Nice shots, is this a continuation of the story or something? Where are the kilrathi?

I hope this turns out to be the arcade sim in the bar and they release a full game a little later.

Sounds exciting, looks pretty good for a xbla game.

I'm not normally one to trash the shit out of a game, but....

oh. my. god.

What the hell does this have to do with Wing Commander? Bye the sounds of it, it's simply a 16 player deathmatch type deal. The only thing seeming to keep this from being Generic Space Shooter number 20023 is that the ships bear a slight, slight resemblence to WC designs.

Where's the story? where's blue-hair? Where the bloody hell is the damn cockpit.

What the world really needs is an update of WC 1 & 2. They can keep the origin-al (lame pun sort of intended) art style and just add higher res cockpits & such and they'd sell millions. Oh well.

** Edit **

Argh! Even worse - it's third person!

well, it sure ain't pretty. But I guess that's largely to do with the sizelimit on xboxlive. Hopefully it will play nice and be cheap... :)

well, from what i understand, the game really isn't making storyline too big an issue...
in anycase, if it follows where the series left off, the Kilrathi weren't the enemy anymore anyway.

I was really excited when I first heard about this, but I'm a little less certain about it now. The interface, and lack of a cockpit both sorta piss me off.

I haven't lost all hope though...

Looks to me like a stright port of the last WingCommander graphics engine. Which isn't a bad thing given as it is a arcade game.

@housewarmer how can you say about this looking like generic space shooter 20023, when there are currently very few space shooters of note from the last 5 years!!! I've been crying out for a multiplayer space fighter for years. The last decent multiplayer space fighting action was X-wing Allience and even that wasn't as good as XvT both of which are now very old games!

actually Moz, I've been aching for a good "generic" space shooter, such as R-Type or ThunderForce2, ever since they stopped being created!
