The first 10 minutes: Assassin's Creed
2007-11-15 22:35:06 by BlimBlim
Last minute change! The embargo for Assassin's Creed has been lifted here in Europe too. By chance I had already 2 videos uploaded, so here they are. At Ubisoft's request I'm not showing the real beginning of the game. If you know what happens, please don't spoil the surprise for the others! More videos, including from the PS3 version, and our impressions will follow later today and tomorrow.
Update: Third part available.
Update 2: Added a very short but still interesting video comparison of the 360 and PS3 versions. Thanks to TTP for the PS3 part :)
Update 3: Fourth and likely last video of the 360 version is up. Let me know if you want to see a video of what happens in the city.
Update 6: The PS3 video is back, this time with the right framerate. Again sorry about that.
Update 7: Since some people have claimed that the retail PS3 version ran far better than the review one, I went and bought it to make sure I didn't unfairly compare both versions. So I've done another comparison video, and you'll notice that the end result is still the same. I'm eagerly awaiting some people arguing that my PS3 is either broken, my capture hardware is buggy, or I've simply cheated the video so the 360 version looked better.

Dude seriously, you WILL NEVER REGRET playing Assassin's Creed! If you are wondering if the PS3 issues render the game unplayable than this is far from any truth you may have read out there!
I honestly enjoyed the game and will most certainly go back and redo all of the missions.
Like metroid and Bioshock this game is an experience to be had.
Don't pin your hopes on Uncharted: Drake's Fortune... I have played through about 70% of the game... while I enjoyed some of the levels there's no way this game can top Assassin's Creed in my opinion. Uncharted does get dull as all you do is shoot, cover and fight your way through hordes of pirates!!!! There's no sense of adventure or exploration. If that's the juice for you than by all means go buy it!

Yeah, do you think so??? Hmm, well, maybe I'll think about it...
I don't know, I'm just a bit disorientated at the moment.
Really don't know what to believe, what to think.... It's sad...
Have to sleep a few nights, and make a choice *lol*

This is my honest opinion... after reading so many confusing reviews about Assassin's Creed the website that comes the closest to how I would review and score the game is:
...GameInformer...

Brief? Sure there are puzzles but too few and far between. Sure there's some scaling but to few and far between. And than there's fighting those damn pesky pirates again! The game is enjoyable but NOT to the level of how I experienced AC.

BlimBlim you did a great job on the videos (and everyone contributing to them, too of course). The best you could do about the mistake on the PS 3 videos was apologise, if the haters don't take it, it's their problem really.
On another note: You said there would be some impressions to follow the videos. Can we expect a short GSD soon? That would be awesome since I'm and I believe many others are not shure whenever it's worth a buy or not. And GS-reviews are allways very good, without the rating, just talking about the games strengths and weaknesses. Kind regards. :)

Well it can't be blims capturing device, as it would do the same for both version of the software.
Seriously guys wake up, just because you can't see it yourselves doesn't make it any less true.

I don't think PS3 loading times would be quicker than the PC's one.

I chose the 360 version, but man is it so freaking loud!
I have 10 days to return it i I want to, I am very unsure if I should go with the Ps3 version because its much more quite.
I have been hearing that the PS3 is having framrate and looks inferior, but what I have seen from side by side DIRECT FEED both is running the same, meaning some places on each version will have problems.
The Ps3 is a bit more lighter, but there is nothing gamma cant do.
Anyone with a Ps3 version that can tell me if it is smooth in terms of animation, cutscenes...etc. I would understand the big showcase on each tower you want to scan, but besides that.
Achievements are nothing to me anyways, and in terms of control, PS3 is the one I am more comfortable with when its not FPS.

Such a pretty game, such minor differences, such a barrage of poop to hit the site.
The saddest thing about Assassin's Creed to me, is that now that it is less than jawesome 9 - 10 material, it is going to be squeezed out of my Xmas playlist, will have to wait until the quiet spell in the new year. The barrage of AAA games this season is insane.

I hear Blim cheated the PS3 video so it looks inferior.
His PS3 is also broken by the way. Here is a picture I took when I snuck into his apartment on my way to Damascus.

Thanks for putting up the videos Blim Blim. Honestly, I was disappointed when I read the reviews regarding this game but when I did see your videos I was able to make up my own mind.
I'll be picking this one up for the XBOX 360 once it becomes available.

I picked up the ps3 version today, still looks quite nice. The framerate issues are there, but right now, early on in the game its unfortunate but bareable, I heard it gets worse later on in the game, but i can comment on that i just started.
Oh and the LE artbook is fantastic.
I really wish the ps3 was the lead platform for at least this game, oh well.

Accusing blim is outrageous!
Just accept the truth.
It's the electricity in France, it's dirty and the PS3 knows this! You need to go to Ireland or South Africa to test the game. Then we believe you.

this is a perfect example of what is going on in EVERY forum sinec PS3 and 360. blim, maybe you shouldn't just do any more comparison videos or mention differences in your articles.
let those fanboys get it on... keep your head out of the line of fire... those guys ALWAYS find something to brawl about. I just don't get it.
anyway: I have the 360 version and the game runs perfectly smooth. ONLY when on lookouts and the camera pans around me, there is very slight judder/tearing (not always!!!). I also experienced MINIMAL slowdowns once in a while.
besides that this game is not only technically impressive, its FUN TO PLAY. thats the fact you all should be worried the most of. but instead you're hitting your heads like 6 year old bullys. grow up guys and start to enjoy this extraordinary beautiful game!
peace.

i can't believe you people are getting upset over the graphics in this game. It looks great on both consols. No one is going to be playing through AC on the PS3 complaining about minor graphical issues that aren't present in the 360 version. Unless you have both consols, both copies of the game, two decent tv's, four arms, and the ability to play 2 games at once, these minor differences will have no effect on you. Go play the damn game.
