Commented on 2007-11-20 04:11:21If COD4 didn't just come out of nowhere like it did and completely destroy Halo 3, then maybe I'd be into this, but it did, and I can't go back. COD4 is just that much better of a game. It's surprising, because I'm as hardcore of a Halo fan as can be...

Commented on 2007-11-20 08:37:16Will download and try them in spring 08 then.
crying about the uber prices for dlc will not change anything.
e.g. even after petitions content for GH2 (and now GH3) is still at 500 points for 3 songs.
just don't buy it if you also think the price is too high.
best regards,

Commented on 2007-11-20 10:09:51Halo3 came out as if it was the second coming of Jesus, everybody praised it until we were sick in our stomachs, it's (still) selling like hot cakes (it made more profit than the most profitable blockbuster this summer) and people still actually think that Bungie (which most people keeps referring to as if they were great pals, and were together in school with them) didn't stop for sleep and to see their families after they finished the game, only to work on these new maps to please the thousands of halo players out there!
Can you not see it? It's clear as water, i can see the the fat executives thinking on their new yachts and porsches as they think of clever ways to milk the pimply kids.
"Shall we release the game with 16 maps?"
"No, lets instead sell it with 11, sell 2.5 million copies, and then release 3 more for 10 euros and sell more 500 000"...
And even more disgusting is the "oh but they will be free in a few months!", which should be read as "look smart asses, stop whining you are right, we give them to you free like we should have, in a few months but let us just squeeze some more dollars out of these halo suckers first. And shhh, don't make too much fuss about it"
Basically, this screws the fans, who will buy it anyway day one. This is the same cheap dirty technique that Apple used with the IPhone. Release it for 600$, leech the so called fans (who support the company and made it what it is), and then drop the price 200$ a couple of months later for the price which the device's truly worth.
Let's not fool ourselves, these companies are made to make money, and they didn't get to the top by being honest and nice to the customers. They did it by being slimmy greedy. So in one hand, lets not be idealistic and naive and think they should give us stuff for free, or that they are working hard to give us nice new maps for us to have fun. But on the other hand, lets not cope with it, lets not let them push us against the wall and steal our money, lets give them the finger and say "hei guys, we're not dumb!" because i can see most people in this website are not...
Commented on 2007-11-20 10:43:46 In reply to xxxfudgexxxRiiight. It's only worked for more than ten years. And despite developers finding a space in the console market, there will continue to be plenty of support PC side for serious gamers. Gamers who expect support post game without some stupid and greedy marketing scheme that comes along with it. Companies like Infinity Ward, Epic, id, and Valve may be flirting with consoles, but it's simply because they see the value in developing for that audience. Who can blame them when so many people there have proven just how much they'll blindly pay for a product? That hardly means they're abandoning PC development though. Epic and Valve will probably never abandon PC gaming. There is still loads of success to be had in that market.
Epic's approach does work and it is a perfectly sound approach to maximizing profits. What people don't understand is that there is a breaking point -- a point where people will realize that they're being treated to hidden costs and they'll stop buying into it -- and at that point, you've damaged your image and lost potential customers in the future. Being GOOD to your fans has its benefits (financial benefits, even) too.
It's actually quite simple. You keep abusing your fan base, and eventually they'll stop coming back to you. But considering some of the reactions in this thread, I'm sure they'll keep on making their quota's, and we'll only see this get worse from here on out. The cost of gaming has gone from $50, to $60 plus loads of hidden costs, and we've only ourselves to thank for that. What's next? In game advertising? Oh, right, we're already there.
Keep missing the point, and keep thinking, "Oh it's just the cost of a couple Big Macs, or a trip to the cinema."
Commented on 2007-11-20 11:04:00 In reply to GriftGFXAs long as they keep milking us, and we keep thinking "its ok, its just the price of a trip to the cinema" we're just conforming to their game, like puppets.

Commented on 2007-11-20 13:31:15 In reply to roxwellBungie on the other hand left these paths along with MS buying them. You see it in how the game is set up, how they already said 1 week after release that they're already working on new DLC and even how they have treaten their comunity lately. I've been reading Bungie forums and their WUs untill one month ago and you could see how poorly fans are treated. There were major complaints, they have been proven and elaborated over a whole month, untill some official showed up and told them that "everything is working as intended". The comunity isn't satisfied with this behavior at all and vioce their opinions on the forums. I doubt that Halo 3 will have the same longterm success like Halo 2, wich is still played.

the weekly update on bungie.net says:
the Matchmaking population into the "haves" and the "have-nots," Bungie was readily aware of the problem that caused, and has rectified it in Halo 3. First, when downloadable content arrives, it will have its own playlist for those folks who just want to play with their new toys. Simultaneously all of the DLC maps will be rolled in to the regular Matchmaking playlists as well and then as folks are getting matched up, the game will take into account who has what maps in the matchmaking process. So you'll see Team Slayer on Standoff show up in the Team Slayer hopper as well as in the new DLC-focused playlist.

Commented on 2007-11-20 16:02:21Agree of disagree, it's an emotive issue for many played but I don't think you could ever accuse them of ignorance in general. If Bungie acted purely on feedback from the most vocal members of the community we'd be stuck with nothing but MLG gametypes and massive amounts of lame.
Pricing for DLC is set by the publisher (MS) and I think the pricing is a consequence of the deal from the split. Bungie obviously has to give something to MS to buy themselves out and I don't see how a collective group of individuals could have a big enough whip round to pay in cash. Things like revenue sharing from DLC, ability to set pricing etc could all have been in that mix. Moreover, perhaps as a newly independent company they add to start turning over some revenue straight away and a worse off share of the deal means they had to charge a higher price to see any return.
That's all idle speculation and not in anyway an excuse for the situation as is.
As for the cost of gaming, I disagree. Not only do you have to take into account inflation and the monumental amount these games now cost to produce but in the UK at least, we're not really paying that much more. Competition from supermarkets as such means I would rarely pay more than £40 for a game whereas the RRP is £45-£50. That's in bricks and motor retail. Online I can shave a few quid off that. In the UK at least, games haven't gotten more expensive when you add all of this up.
I still remember paying £65 for Streetfighter 2 on the SNES.
