Xbox 360 PS3

Namco releases no less than eighteen screenshots of Soul Calibur IV. The new Raphael looks like he's been kissed by a Vampire, and Sophitia by her plastic surgeon, but the game still looks damn great in those images.

the facial expression on the chick is the same in every picture. that is pretty lame. she's smiling while she's attacking and fighting.
I'm pretty sure Soul Calibur has always had facial expressions in past games. I'm sure they just haven't implemented them yet. Can't wait for this damn game.

this game will be played without knowing time limit or health?
Whoa, that would be so awesome!

I'm sure it's in-game, look at the ground--- its nasty. Still looks nice though.

SC is good, but I still have a hard on for VF.

The DoF would be interesting while actually playing, I'll wonder if they'll include it/

Cut scenes are rather often made within a games engine these days and not per default pre-rendered. The camera angles tells me one thing for certain: these screens are NOT taken from direct gameplay. I can see no hud, are you telling me this game will be played without knowing time limit or health?

You can push a bit extra on the graphics in cut scenes because you don't have to have the actual game running while the cut scene is taking place. No AI, no player input, no game mechanics. All of the power can be focused on just churning out hot graphics.

edit: just because i can, here's an example. Look at this pic of Forza 2. THIS is an in game shot.
http://images.gamersyde.com/gallery/public/5323/84...

then compare it to this one, which is still produced within the engine but with much more compelling camera angle in the replay mode.
http://images.gamersyde.com/gallery/public/5323/84...

Quite a bit of difference.

It's still looking good however, and for fans of the series i bet it will be a lot of fun.
They are from replays. You can control the camera after a match is over like you did in SC 1-3 If you search the past screenshot. They have a health bars on top of them.

I found one:

And if you look at the trailers of the game. You can see they are replays from direct gameplay. Usually after a match is over.

Yusaku2: well...thank you for proving my point. The screen shot you just posted looks like ass compared to the shots we have here. Perhaps they are from replays, yes, but that changes nothing. Those shots aren't representative of what the game will look like while playing, the one you posted now is though.

You really don't know anything, do you? If you kept up with news of this game, you'd know that the developers said they have lots of work left to do on environments.

But let you inform you that Namco has always made some of THE best looking games. Were you even around for when Tekken was still on PS1? What about when Soul Calibur hit the arcades?

Maybe you don't realize that SC2 and SC3 looked underwhelming because they were developed for the graphically weakest system (PS2), so that's why you can't believe SC4 looks leagues better than any other game now (since it's on equal hardware).

See, you don't know shit my boy!

Ignorance is not a key here...why are there noobs thinking this is cut scenes?! Maybe you should play SC 1-3 and look at the graphics. Its not hard to think this is the current gen graphics. Its a fighting game! Where else are the graphics going into except in the characters? Yes some goes into the bkrds, but with normal mapping, lighting etc, this is easily done with skill. Please leave the Atari era and catch up to this gen...

Never liked Soul Calibur much as a fighter, too mashy for my taste. But this looks great and even though it's obviously a bunch of bullshots i still find it looking nice, somewhat representative of what we might see when we sit down with it.

Which of these pics represent gameplay? It's all cut scene if you ask me.
lol, i'd say they where blatnatly in-game. i mean, they are very nice, but they're not unbelievably nice which CGi generally is. also, they have to render 2 characters and a background, its bound to look significantly better then most games since it SHOULD be able to get away with more poly's and higher res textures since theres effectively less to see and do.

looks great tho. cant wait. they do have slightly expressionless faces, but in beat em ups its not much of an issue imo. hell i bearly noticed it in uncharted in game so its a moot point for me. and shockingly they've managed to make raphael look half cool. i hated him from the past games, but in these shots he looks pretty neeto.

Look, cut scene or not these screens are obviously taken in angles that makes everything look way more dramatic and accentuates the details on the characters and therefore does not represent in-game footage. I wouldn't call shots of the replay mode of GT in-game either because that's not what you see when you are actually PLAYING the game. I never said that the shot's weren't produced within the games engine.

My idea of a bullshot is anything that makes the shot look better, no matter if it's because of composition or photoshop. If you still think i'm a retard then go ahead, i won't argue over this anymore.

See, you don't know shit my boy!
Perhaps i wasn't being clear with what i meant, but as I've already said you can rest assured that i do not doubt the pure technical aspects of the screens.

Oh man! I need this game before I die!
Excuse me? With a name like that and writing "do x before I die", I think you can expect a visit from your friendly local secret police soon.

Game is the looker of this gen. I wonder if it will be 60fps as before, because those gfx are really pushing it.

The game looks awesome, very sweet. Can't wait. Always loved the series, from the beginning on.
The armour of that new girl is so nice, very cool design. I just hope her second costume is sexier ^^
Raphael finally got a cool suite, too. More vampiristic. Like it. And the Astaroth design is quite better than the last one, didn't like many designs in SC3. That Hammer-Astaroth was the worst. ^^
