In regards to Double Agent, ABSOLUTELY. I wouldn't necessarily tell people to skip the 360 game because as you say they're completely different games and that game does have its merits, but a real mistake would of course be to not play the Xbox version at all.
I think it's nice that there are a bunch of classic Splinter Cells around now what with Conviction - if successful - changing the setup permanently. I would really like it if they created spinoff games similar to Burnout Legends/Dominator that still build on the old mechanics. They would be a great fit for the Wii for instance, where gadgets could be created with the wiimote in mind. I'm playing Xbox Double Agent right now (on the 360 and it's working/looking great so far, will make noise if that changes) and it's bittersweet that the next step is so radically different.

I don't know why so many of you whine about gameplay when there are SO few games that actually innovate these days, and no, most Wii games aren't innovative at all either.

"I don't get it, I really don't."
What's not to get? Most current-gen sequels of amazing games end up sucking because the team slacks-off and basically reproduces a downgraded "map-pack sequel" which is never as good as the original masterpiece, in this case, Vegas. I'm sure you get it now.
As for Double Agent, good game, but not great. SC 1 and 3 are much better than SC 2 and 4. I agree.
