You can't just take a shmup and make it widescreen without making it an entirely different game. These games aren't even 4:3, and yet, there were plenty released at retail last generation for PS2 (in Japan). It's a shame that only a handful of those releases made it west.

Obviously you are a purist in that respect, but I would sooner see a proper remake with HD sprites.
Also how do you know it would make the game entirely different ? when its never been done, the reason being is that these devs are too lazy and want a quick Yen/buck.
All it would take is a new background and a wider area for sprites to move in, the game would remain the same.
