wait wait im owned cuz he said " Games dont improve through the new use of technology? " hmmm abit hypocritical of you saying that, the wii itself and its dodgy controller is ... New technology!! so arent you having fun with your so called new technology, our does it still not in itself bring new features and gameplay and make them available? - WAIT! they do so in the words of samhain81 - OWNED!
If the controller were dodgy the system wouldn't be so successful

"or does it still not in itself bring new features and gameplay and make them available?"

Please come back when you learn how to make sense

made sense to me, also, the reason its so successful is because its a novelty. you just have to look at the games attatchment rates to see that. people are buying the console in the millions, yet a lot of them are buying very few games. something aint right there. its one of those consoles that you think you want, then a couple weeks down the line realise you really didnt want it at all.

What if, a year later, it's still consistently one of the things that makes you feel like gaming is worth being into? Is that wrong? Misguided? Fabricated?

If the FACT is that the Wii is a novelty, then how come, in circus 15 years of gaming it's one of the coolest, most giddy-making aspects of this medium to some people/me?

I think it's about time people just take it or leave it and stop trying to make it into science. The thing is OBVIOUSLY not just making grannies happy, and it's frankly just patronizing to have one's opinion constantly dismissed on the basis of "being too stupid to realise it's just fun for a bit".

Gaming isn't exclusive anymore. It's outgrowing that, as expected since every art form has done so before it. Not everyone will wanna follow it wherever it goes, not everyone will agree with every direction taken and why should they? Genres divide opinions, preferences, but you're not seeing people who aren't into footie games complaining in FIFA/PES threads about how football inherently sucks (though I'm sure instances of this have been recorded).

All I'm seeing is a ton of people angry that something they can't appreciate yet firmly associate with gaming - thus their medium - is finding an audience. Yell all you want about how stupid that audience is, yell all you want at people enjoying really fancy, difficult, fucked up kinds of art too while you're at it because it's just poop on a stick. Yell at kids for laughing at stupid cartoons and yell at adults for finding meaning in The Seventh Seal.

At the end of it you'll just end up with a sore throat, arriving at the realisation that you might not ultimately enjoy every aspect of gaming, just as it's unreasonable to expect one to appreciate every *great* movie or all kinds of *great* music.

I'm pretty sure the PS2 went through the same thing because it didn't have ANY decent games for so long, same with PS3. One was for the cheap dvd player the other is for the cheap bluray
If the Wii had "next gen graphics" no one would be giving it any shit

Personally for me, PS3 and 360 are all mainly games I have been playing since I had an nes as a child

Nintendo makes games with the desire of making something fun, and therefor the Wii is newer to me than what the other systems have to offer

Saying it's a gimmick is fine for you, but it's refreshing to me and millions of others

Thank god someone who isant brain washed as well lol .. korndog is right it was a novelty to being with it wont be at xmas due to more games being available but it still has a lack of them for instance how many bloody mario spin off games are there? I did like mario galaxy but the rest are needless the only game im looking forward to is smash bros but at the same time i feel the controls to best yes! unique but also troublesome.
