Vivendi has released some new images from Prototype, which really convinced me during GDC that the game can be something good - just check out the cool gameplay videos from the expo! The developers recently announced that the game's multiplayer part unfortunately has been completely removed. The game is planned for a release this year.

I'm definitely feeling this one.

It looks to be Crackdown with blood thrown in the mix, and that's definitely not a bad thing in my book.

im defintily feeling it... i mean metamorphic, wall running, sky diving, helicopter flying badasses that can absorb people and transform into them while making his body into weapons is sick!

not to mention teamxbox has some wicked images up of the shield and other stances and concept art that was really wicked
tho i do wish they'd up the res on some of the textures and bumpmaps.

That sucks that they canned the multiplayer. That would have added more to the game!

Good. Not every game needs multiplayer. The more focus on single player the better.

*cries*
Online co-op would've been so much fun. Without it, I doubt I will replay this game as much as I did Crackdown. =(

I would of enjoyed this game in a Crackdown co-op sort of way, without multi, it just looks dull.

well i wont be buying this one then. co-op was a huge selling point for me. and without it, it is just a more "adult" spiderman 3....no thanks.

yeah, cos this looks as good as bioshock....HAHAHAHA. no!. as i said before, it looks like spiderman 3 with added powers. and co-op was a huge selling point for this. i expect 6's and 7's across the board come release. if its highter i'd be surprised.

As far as I know having or not having co-op does not decrease or increase a game's score. Game's are scored on gameplay, story, fun factor, and sometimes graphics and I'll be damned if a reviewer ever marks down a single player game because it didn't include co-op. Co-op is a benefit, not a necessity, and it will continue to stay that way.

I agree. It's just not meant for every game, and yes, it does seem to cause the developers to sacrifice the single player whereas it doesn't live up to its full potential.

A game will get punished for multiplayer being absent because it lowers replayability since single player ventures only last so long
Probably even more so when it's known that a multiplayer component was scrapped

No, that is untrue. The reviewer(s) may claim that they were dissapointed by the lack of co-op inclusion, but they may not lower the score because of it, no matter how the replayability fares because you can not increase or decrease score based on something that isn't there, especially if the game was originally single player.

I think it's not untrue, but true.. I also usually play SP games only once, maybe twice, and then they start collecting dust.. And the same goes for almost all my friends that play games aswell.. A game with good online MP we usually play much longer, so it adds a lot more value to a game for us.. Maybe not for people that never play MP, but I think those people are soon to be a minority anyway.. Online MP is getting more & more important these days.. Now that the consoles are online aswell I think consolegames will eventually go the same way as PC games where SP-only games will sell a lot less then games that offer online MP aswell, and we all know where the industry always goes (where the money is).. In the end people are social beings, so playing with and/or against other people is more tempting then playing with and/or against AI for most.. People can play MP games for many years nonstop, I've never seen anyone playing the same SP game for many years nonstop..

Bioshock was a awesome SP game, I finished it twice (once saving all little sisters, and once harvesting them all), but I haven't touched it since.. I've been playing CoD4 MP nonstop since November last year after I finished it's SP..

That doesn't mean all games should have MP.. Some games are not suited for it.. But I think most are.. For example I like the fact Fable 2 (RPG, a gamegenre that's usually SP-only) will be playable in co-op, also a form of MP..

Dude, what are you even talking about? How can you make a blanket statement claiming that reviewers "may not lower the score" and then try to defend it? Reviewers are free to do whatever the hell they want as long as they can justify it(and sometimes even if they can't). Some sites like Teamxbox even have a Longevity category in their reviews.

Now, this doesn't mean I agree with always giving lower marks for a lack of MP, but if a game's SP is horribly short AND it lacks MP, then I'd have no problem docking it marks for having potentially low replayability.
