PS3

While waiting for some real gameplay, here is the attract mode video of Killzone 2 as filmed a few minutes ago by Snoopers during the Gamer's Day event.
Update: First part of the gameplay video is up.
Update 2: Second part of the video added.

Why's that?
Pro Tip: don't fall into the trolls trap

Anyway, the game is looking extremely nice as far as graphics go.

The gameplay looks incredible, silky smooth, amazing particle effects and animations, wide open environments. Seriously, a lot of games are going to find it difficult to live up to the visual fidelity of this game, on either platform. It looks a lot better imo then it did last year.

Let's just hope the game is as good in the gameplay department as it is in the visuals.

Some very nice effects going on there, and it looks very busy which is always nice. I hope that it's not really slated for early '09--but hey, if it is, that's cool too. I'm sure we'll have plenty to play this holiday season regardless.

Motorstorm 2 + Killzone 2.. a neat little package of awesomeness.

Is anyone else bothered by the lack of a real cover system, and that the AI looked pretty stupid?

theres still plenty more games coming this year tho, if people didnt see this one slipping into 09 then sorry, but they're idiots...lol
Guess that would be the entire Sony Defense Force who said otherwise.

Why's that?
Oh, cuz like last year, 360 has a better line-up. Simple, really.

Wait B3yond, my fellow gamers.

What exactly is a "real" cover system--third person cover? If that's what you mean, than no, I'm not bothered at all. Keep that third person shit out of my FPS please.

This is the only real cover system I've ever seen implemented in an FPS which keeps the game in 1st person so I really have no idea what you mean.

Simply ducking like we see in this game just seems out of date now

I guess I do mean 3rd person cover, but if not 3rd person they should try something new

They are, it's not "simply ducking"--and so far as cover systems go I'd say it's quite a bit more advanced that the lean left/right model as seen in games like FEAR and Call of Duty (though absent in the console versions of COD). You can take cover, ie, lean against walls and peak around corners just like you can in a game like Rainbow 6 Vegas.. it just doesn't go into a third person camera.

Personally, I'll take "just ducking" or just duck/prone/lean over R6V's cover system any day of the week. I can't stand the camera moving to a third person view. It gives you a line of sight where you shouldn't have one. In third person games it's killer, sure, but I find it inappropriate in FPS.

I agree. The change in camera angles take you out of the game. Also, the latching on system looks nice and I hope Guerilla tweaks the difficulty so that you have to take cover, maybe make the enemy AI more agressive. Because an optional cover system usually equals throw away system that you don't have to use. However, the game (Killzone 2) just hasn't gotten me hyped for it; however Feb. 2009 is ages away, long enough for them to release a demo or some truly exciting footage. As it stands now, it is not on my top list of anticipated titles.

Saw the second new video as well, looks great.
It seems they have made one of the big issues I had from previous title, when you shoot the bullets hit the enemy at the same time, made the bullet detection better.

I hope they fix the assault rifle long range shots as well, because in Killzone that wa sa big problem for me as well.
The range was close enough to actually shoot and hit the enemy but the bullets never reached the distance, so I hope they fix this too.

But so far, I really like what I see, the visuals are great, alot of things happens at the same thing, small effects to big ones.

I have no problem waiting another year for this title, as long as they make it great.

That's what I found most impressive about the vids. It looks hectic... like what I imagine a real warzone must be like.

It looks good, but honestly, have you guys forgotten what a slap to the nuts the first game was? I'm playing liberation now and while its not an atrocity like killzone is, it's still a pretty bland experience gameplay wise. My faith in Guerrilla when it comes to game design is not exactly high.

Also this really bugged me about the videos; was the player crouching all the time or did they just stick teh camera to the groin of the player model? Perhaps the hero of KZ is a midget?

The graphics and animation all look impressive. Gameplay looks shit though. Whoever said it looks like Black HD hit the nail on the head. Have a feeling this will be one of those games like Assassins Creed. All style, no substance. But, if this game ends up being all it's cracked up to be, I might just buy a PS3.

LOL @ all the haters. Keep up the "good" work. Awesome method to flush your credibility down the toilet.

This game is the most impressive shooter i've seen on a console EVER. The atmosphere, models, animation, explosions, lighting etc. are second to none.

My biggest grief with KZ1 was framerate. KZ2 has a buttersmooth framerate, and all those bugs from kz1 are gone it seems.KZ1 was way too ambitious for the ps2.

Oh how they set thing straight on the ps3.

Yeah, because a fanboy calling people with criticism "haters" is a surefire bet for awesomeness. It really is.

If the biggest beef you had with KZ1 was the frame rate i'd advise you to go out there and play some GOOD fps games. Now admittedly the main bulk of FPS titles on the ps2 were complete fecal matter, but that doesn't make KZ a good game. It only makes it better by comparison. Which isn't saying much.

Now KZ2 looks splendid but like i said earlier, it's not the graphics or production values that worry me, it's the gameplay. And the groin cam.

It does looks pretty damn good, the lightning looks fantastic, it would be nice to see some more colourful enviroments.
But im still not entirely convinced that it will be a "killer app" since the first killzone game turned out be be a pretty overhyped game with alot of lost potential.

I love how this game and other Sony related games are put under so much scrutiny, but when Halo 3 came out looking like a big pile of steamy turtle shit, everyone turned a blind eye.
Really? That is not the way i remember it, with every video and screenshot released of halo 3 there was a shitstorm of "this looks like halo 2" and "this isn't nextgen" posts.
If anything the whining was actually alot worse for halo 3
And no halo 3 did not look like a pile of steaming turtle shit. :)

Actually no, Halo 3 was heavily critisised for "not looking particularly good"
When infact I thought it was one of the best looking games on the system. It certainly wins points for not going with the all grey and dull colours look, it had huge lush environments.

That's some nice ownage right there.

And what the Sony fanboys don't understand is that Sony are the ones who claimed their console would destroy 360 out of the gate. Are some of you forgetting that little detail? M$ never said anything like that.
