Hmm, i don't know. The video seemed like a bunch of bull to me. I don't give a shit if they were in Africa and wtf..."over 7 gigs of pictures" lol.

I don't want to say anything about this quite yet though...it could turn out good i guess but i don't have any high hopes. Also i don't like this "freedom" they are talking about. Your only mission is to hunt down an arms dealer? So you just run around randomly in a huge world hoping to find him or what? Are there missions you can take along the way? I wonder.

I like alot..... this and crysis are actually the kind of fps I like...huge environments with multiple ways to complete the missions...this looks to go even further than crysis on this account.

Since I can run crysis well on my laptop, Ill prob get it on pc...

Sick of this "go anywhere, do anything" bullshit, it feels boring and lacks immersion.

sounds like someone lacks an imagination, these game are only as good as the players imagination, think of something to do and try and achieve it.

Wow hunt down an arms dealer. Let me guess the story goes like this:
Kill Arms dealer's henchmen.
Mysterious sexy half-naked sidekick appears (who actually works for the government).
Kill Arm's dealer.
Betrayed by sidekick (to get you closer to the real bad guy).
Kill bad guy win game.

"and all you see will be available on all three platforms" ... the first thing I realized was the bad framerate. (Or was it just my computer doing other stuff?)
And 50km^2 are not that much, that are just about 7x7 km. Anyone remember "Just Cause"? It featured a world of 1024 km^2 (or 32x32km) also free to go where you want (even on the first xbox).
And also lol at 7GB photos. My Brother shoots about the same on a two weeks trip.

Looks really good to me but you will always get some fagot that loves to trash talk when they obviously know nothing about the game.

The video was a little choppy, the developers said they had the game running 20fps without optimization on the consoles a while ago, so maybe this is all console version footage.

Looks a little brown and bloomy for my tastes, and I'm not sure about the developer skill, but I'll keep watching.

looks and sounds a hell of a lot more interesting then crysis imo. least it doesnt have matrix sentinal rip offs half way through it....at least i hope not. should be decent. i just hope it has some hand holding in terms of missions. i really dont want to be left to wander the plains of africa in the hope of stumbling across an area with enemies to fight...lol

It still looks impressive to me. But like stated above: 50km²? That's is actually pretty small. 7x7km? If you would take a bike, it would only take you 14 minutes to cross the whole map. In a car 3 minutes at most. Strange.
I haven't watched the video yet but 50km² is 50x50km not 7x7km. Maybe you're thinking of the square root of 50km? (Which is 7.0710678118654755km², yes I used a calculator, lol!)

Crysis gets too much shit.. and this is Ubisoft.. they're property killing kings in this genre. It sounds nice, but I'm still on the fence, that's for sure. Ubi has yet to prove to me that they're capable of being even slightly relevant in first person shooting.

actually, dumbass, 50km by 50km is 2500km². What others have said is correct.

I used a calculator too ;)

I see what you did there and I understand how it could be confusing... Sadly, you're mistaken.

You see, what you did is find the square root of 2,500. In that case, you get 50x50.
That ~7.1 number you got is the actual root for 50km².

But still, 50km² is plenty for a game. Knowing that you will most likely stay on foot, and also the fact that you will usually have to follow paths and can't jump around mountains (Yes, they do have mountains in Africa.) It will take around 3 hours to travel the map. That's on foot.

It's not like the map is empty and you're going from one side to the other at 60 km/h...

Here's a figure taken from another website: http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/7753/50518907tr...

Should be self explanatory. ;)

The original Rainbow on Xbox was excellent and pretty perfect. It's been downhill since though

² means squared and squared means a number multiplied by itself. I know Wikipedia isn't always reliable but I think they're right on this one at least, lol!:

This game looks absolutely amazing. I've always been a pseudo-fan of the Far Cry series (the good ones). This, along with Fallout 3, are probably my 2 most anticipated games of the year. Nothing else matters.

Dude, what are you talking about? Linear, scripted games with invisible walls everywhere (like COD4) is what kills the immersion for me, because I'm constantly reminded of the limitations, boundaries, and artificiality of the small levels. The go-anywhere, fully-realized, open world of Far Cry 2 is exactly what makes the game more immersive and realistic, because you'll feel like you're really all alone, isolated, a small man dropped into the middle of Africa and enmeshed in living, breathing, complex African jungle or savanna environment. THAT, to me, is immersion.

You know, you're right. I wasn't really concentrating. LOL.

50 km² = 50² = 50*50 = 2,500

√2,500 = 50... etc.

Must of been sleepy and not thinking straight. I can't believe simple math turned into this. Sorry about that. Hah.
