MS08: Interview of Itagaki
2008-05-27 01:00:58 by Snoopers
Last week was held the Xbox 360 Showcase in San Francisco, and we've had the great opportunity to spend some quality time with the bests game designers of the Microsoft pool. Last friday we started with Shane Kim, Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Games Studio. Today we go on with the creator of the Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden series, head of Team Ninja and Katana enthusiast, the uncompromising Tomonobu Itagaki and his Ninja Gaiden 2.

Nice.
really sad to hear that DOA4 is the last game (at least for this gen) because imo i felt it was rushed and it could have been a lot better with more time.
there is also NG2 and dlc packs, game looks solid but you never know what could happen so here is hoping they will release packs if they see it incomplete in some way after a year or so.
edit: should have asked him about Tekken 6 lol.

good interview, goes to show that as much as people think itagaki is a total prick, he is honest about his opinions on his own games, and other games aswell, he isnt afraid to say that he is looking forward to something not his own, or if he felt something wasnt that great. Should be hearing about his next project (Code Cronus/Project Progressive) Probably E3

Nice interview. Hopefully the game will reflect Itagaki's confidence in this being the definitive action game.

Liked the interview. You guys are doing such a good job with your presentation it's entertaining to watch even if the content doesn't interest me that much (in this case it does, tho). When I watch other site's videos where their staff is talking about a particular game it always looks like they're nerdy geeks, it's rather embarasing. You're always being professional, tho. Keep up the great work!

Ha Itagaki is the man.
I also think that the interviews here have much higher production values than most other gaming sites. Can't wait for more!

Time to move one frankly speaking. DOA was good and all, but he can always create a different fighting universe.

Yeah i know, im also looking forward to SC, SF and DBZ, all great fighting games. But DoA was special, fluid gameplay, every single move was smooth.. ah well we will see, nice interview.

Wonder what happened to the May demo of Ninja Gaiden 2, it's starting to be too late for a demo since the game's coming out soon.

Microsoft lied and are bunch of a*holes, but that is not something new that they lie.
But here is the thing, on NG2 Xbox.com site it says "May" and thats it, nothing more.
IF the demo is gonna be released, it is gonna be out this week, until Friday.
I still want the demo though because us Europeans got shafted AGAIN that we have to wait till June 6th while US gets it on the 3rd while Japan gets it on 5th.
I feel sorry for Japan considering that is where the game was created, they have to wait.
That is why I am saying I want the demo, atleast I will play it so much until June 6th is here, that way the anticipation of me not killing anyone for getting the game lowers.

So he is creating a new franchise? – Very nice, looking forward to it. I think of it as opportunity for them to get away from the DoA characters and settings etc.

His new franchise as he stated in earlier interviews is a WW2 game...you seriously want him to do such a thing?
I rather want him to work on Code Cronus.

"I think it would be cool to do something like what Clint Eastwood is doing for that time period," he added, referencing Flags Of Our Fathers and Letters From Iwo Jima which shows both sides of the war.
When asked how long he had been thinking about doing such a title, Itagaki said it was something he came up with during our short interview.
"That's what it's like to create something; you start from nothing and you have to clear your mind and come up with new ideas," he said. "I'm interested in that period of time, for my generation, that was an event that influenced us more than anything else. I think that would be an interesting topic to explore."
If it turned out that a Japanese developed game about World War II was "too politically charged," Itagaki said he might want to explore the same issues in a game set in space.
I’ll wait and see for myself. I rather see him developing something new and unrelated to DoA & Co. than doing the same thing over and over again.

Yep that is the one, my bad.
He has that concept in "mind" but IF he does it, I don't want to even care about it.
