The best graphics in my opinion is the one that doesn't exaggerate textures and doesn't try to cover up bad rendering by using fake depth of field, colour filters and busy and distorted art direction. COD4 is an example of what is a great and clean gfx while GOW is unfortunately the culprit . Photorealism in a game like GT5P where nothing is overdone, is usually accused of being sterile because in the world where most of us are so accustomed to photos that are usually digitally processed (photoshop), that unfiltered, unadulterated photos are usually seen as bland. When some mediocre photographers with good photoshop skills become household names while great photographer like William Eggleston, Stephen Shore, Martin Parr etc. are push to the wayside, it's time to realign our vision to what is reality. Although a video game graphics isn't always a representation of reality, but the ones that aspire to it, has to follow a simple rule that despite the complexities that we may percieve in our environments, it is actually more deceptive than what it may apppear. In reality, things are really that simple.

Im a fan of hte first Resistance so I have hope for this one. Although I hate to agree with the fanbots out there, but this pic really doesnt look all that great. I know it will be better in the end though, and the more important part, the gameplay will be nice.(hopefully they fix the online though so that I can connect and stay connected. xbla and wii online run perfectly, but resistance and most ps3 titles are very laggy and often dc for me. I blame the region, but im not really sure what to think)

CoD4's solo was kind of boring IMO ! I came close to not finishing it, I hate those rollercoaster scripted games. Sure they look good but then, what's the point if the game ends up being frustrating and boring.
If KZ2 MP is as good as CoD4, then it's gonna be one hell of a game, though. Besides, this screenshot looks quite good.
CoD 4 MP fans shouldn't expect much from KZ2. As Kaz "Ridge Racer" Hirai mentioned on playstation day, sony has Resistance 2 to become well-polished CoD-like MP game on their platform. As for KZ2, i serously doubt it's engine could handle more than 24 players (i hope i'm wrong however). But it'll have some kick-ass co-op imo.

Textures on this screen look awfully bad :( And as I saw from gameplay movies the game is kinda boring (just next ordinary shooter...)
And what did you expect from PS3's RAM? Hope GG aren't using texture streamig from blu-ray/HDD, because if they are, we shouldn't expect more than this during the entire PS3's life cycle

The best analogy I can give about how I feel this game will pan out, is how I would describe these sour sweets you can get down at my local shop.

Sure they look good, but once you eat them you realise that you just wasted money on something that quite frankly didn't taste as great as it looked.
When i bought my PS2 with the first KZ, i didn't expect the game could impress me THAT much. I usually play on high-end PC, so the attempt of making a tech-advanced game on old-as-time PS2 hardware just made me laugh. But OMG, what an atmosphere they managed to create! I've beaten it 2 times (even gave up F.E.A.R. without completing it). Rest assured, GG knows how to impress, and game's appearance doesn't reflect even a half of it.

I own a 360 but I still am looking forward to KZ2. The whole idea of the Helghast I think is a cool one and as some people have said, I am not ready to judge this sequel on what I have seen so far. Gameplay looks to be good and as for graphics as long as they as good as halo 3's (minimum) I'm fine with it.

Let's be real the gunfire and particle explosions in Crackdown look better than this game. And that shit is open ended! There is no excuse for their constant downgrades. Bottom line this game will not deliver what was promised. And did we have any reason to believe otherwise. They have not delivered on anything. Anyone remember (HOME) are the wonderful Lair come on if it was any one else but Sony everyone would be on their case but because everyone wants Sony to succeed so bad the continue to give them a pass.

which ram? and what do you mean?
256MB R Main RAM @3.2GHz
256MB GDDR3 VRAM @700MHz

I mean both R and GDDR3, although its' overall amount is 512 mb, it can't be used as effective as on X360, for several reasons:
1. CELL cpu can operate only with 16byte memory blocks, this means programmers always must use this size, even when data structure has less than 16bytes
2.PS3 OS utilizes 64mb of R RAM + 32mb VRAM (mostly for the reason stated above). X360 OS requires only 32mb.
3.X360's graphic chip has some very important component - 10mb of eDRAM used for frame buffer (not much, but better than nothing). PS3 however has not, as it's GPU is mostly PC based (NVIDIA just didn't have this tachnology in development when they were providing sony with NV47/G70). This is very strange, even PS2 has eDRAM.
4.As oll of you know X360's RAM is unified, so the most portion of it ( usually 300 +mb) is used for textures and geometry.

Sure explains a lot :) So, not only does PS3 have less available ram to work with, it's not as efficient.

thanks for that

"4.As oll of you know X360's RAM is unified, so the most portion of it ( usually 300 +mb) is used for textures and geometry."

and that's at 700mhz GDDR3, doesn't that slow the cpu down like those integrated graphics cards? and how does the ps3 then take advantage of the 256MB R Main RAM @3.2GHz, it looks hugely superior next to GDDR3 and does this make the R better than all of the 360's ram for the fact it's 4.5 times quicker than GDDR3? and does this allow it to do 4x more than GDDR3, and if so would that not be comparable to a Gig of GDDR3, in terms of how much it can push in the same time frame.

please any info and links would be hugely appreciated.

I do take issue on the os usage, because it was reduced to 32mb during firmware 2.0
"Firmware 2.0 will reduce the memory usage to 32MB of R and NO GDDR3. XMB will still run on the 7th SPU but the 7th SPU wont be reserved, other things can be run on the SPU besides the XMB."

again any info from everyone is welcomed because I would like to know for sure on this memory issue.

erm ... it looks good. But this game has to be enjoyed in motion. The production value of this game is pretty much epic. But somehow I feel like they are going to screw up the gameplay aspect ... I sure hope not.

And for the douchebag who said the lighting was static.... wtf???? It has the best lighting system implemented in a game (on a console at the very least). ever! Everything is dynamic and it's all adjustable on the fly. It has post-processing filters to make it look even better and yes it's HDR. Hell, even motorstorm was HDR and that was a launch game. xbox360 (which is a dx9 platform) can't even do HDR.
Project Gotham Racing 3 (which was a launch title) has dynamic lighting (they showed off an early debug build which allowed the player to control the sun position) and Halo 3 has one of the best lighting systems ever!

A buffer grab that truly shows how KZ2 looks. Low polygon amount present on the soldiers, low resolution effects and average lighting. Quite average looking game. I can understand people saying it will look better in motion but only a little bit better. And so will other games do.

Seems reality just catched up the KZ2 hype and beasted it. Guess the PS3 fans maybe should learn notto up their expectations with hype becouse it will hit them in the end big time like now.

It's quite funny to be honest.

I remember Uncharted receiving the same comments by many.

"AI LOOKS AWFUL.... LOOKS TOO EASY... etc"

To now say Uncharted has poor AI is almost oxymoronic!
Uncharted has below average AI, same as in the preview videos shown. To not aknowledge this is to be in denial (I have the game).

And KZ2 doesnt have fully dynamic lighting. Considering several shadows are pre baked into the scene. Aswell as the lighting being more of a bloom hack than true HDR. Effects are also rendered in 1/4th resolution to push the framerate up (in the GG documents released).

I'm sorry to have to disagree with you, but the AI is awesome. especially on the hardest difficulty the way they send one guy to distract you with his gun shooting at you, whilst 3 others try to flank you using cover to conceal themselves.

just one example of the many things the pesky sods have tried on me.

HDR, alpha-blending, and anti-aliasing require even more memory bandwidth. This is why Xbox 360 has 256 GB/s bandwidth reserved just for the frame buffer. This allows the Xbox 360 GPU to do Z testing, HDR, and alpha blended color rendering with 4X MSAA at full rate and still have the entire main bus bandwidth of 22.4 GB/s left over for textures and vertices.
Dude, like.. all over the fuck'n internet. Do some research. The 6800GT, a first generation DX9 part, can do HDR, for one. PGR3, among other launch titles on the Xbox 360 use HDR; Halo 3 has some of the best HDR in gaming, period; and frankly the list of 360 games that use HDR is too numerous to rattle them all off in this post. You're wrong.

This isn't some fanboy, system wars nonsense. I think both consoles have their advantages and weaknesses.. but in this particular case, your statement is just false.. and probably motivated by previously stated system wars nonsense.

It's pretty awful that we can't have a single thread on the news page about a console exclusive game without it turning into a fanboy pissing match. I can already see it starting in the new Resistance thread, and every KZ2 and Gears of War 2 thread has been an f'n circus.

Give it a rest!

I may have been to harsh but it still is not above average in my opinion. It fails to often, "hiding" in open air and shooting blindly with unlimited ammo. When under fire they barely do anything to evade it either.
