Formula One 2009 images

Today must be a pretty bad day for Codemasters since they have a now pretty useless Formula One license for next year. Still, this year will see the release of Formula One 2009 on the PSP and Wii, and they released these Silverstone screenshots.

If everything goes to planned, 8 of the teams excluding Williams and Force India will not participate in the 2010 F1 Championship... and instead will form their own series.

Would Codemasters even go ahead with the game for next-gen consoles? No Ferrari, no McLaren, etc. If I was to buy the game I would be looking forward to drive a McLaren not a Force India car for example!

Whatever happens in the situation, Codemasters has a ton to loose. The game would still sell but the sales numbers would never reach the highs if they had Ferrari, etc. in the game. It would be a real shame if Codemasters decided to scratch the game for next-gen because of this reason.

The next few days could spell the death of F1 and a lot of the offshoots from it. If FOTA makes theyre own sport then you can bet everyone will be renegotiating their contracts as F1 will be seen as in serious breach of them. A championship without mcclaren and ferrari is severely less marketable than one with, and im sure codemasters are watching the situation very closely. That said, i find it entirely disappointing that they decided to delay their new game until next season, perhaps it would have been better to arrange who got what rights long before they kicked in so they could at least start on the game and have it ready in time.

If the new series starts they could buy that license and simply change some things here and there to have the official game. But I doubt they will need to do so, Mosley is gonna get kicked out of his office and then there will be a F1 season with all the teams and '09 rules.

Theese pictures are obviously from the PSP version, Megatama. The only problem with the f1 title, that codemasters have already bought the licence, and payed the fee for it. If they want to do a ferrari-mclaren-brown-redbull-renault series, they can do it, but they wasted much money for the f1 rights

The rebel teams- Ferrari, McLaren, Toyota, Renault, BMW, Brawn, Red Bull, Toro Rosso are essentially setting up new racing series without Bernie Ecclestone and FIA , the former who has been the bone of contention for quite sometime. If I were Codemasters', I'd phone Bernie and ask for my money back because I don't see any reason for anyone to be interested in an F1 series where the only known team is Williams. And the MO for the rebel teams/organization (FOTA) is accessibilty, I reckon the licensing will be so much cheaper than what CM paid.

They won't go out of the championship. I bet my money on this that they will find a new deal which all teams agree on.

I think they will agree on a deal as well. How will they set one up in half a year? They are just scaring the FIA. They want more say in rules and regulations changes.

Ecclestone is almost legendary for being a huge arsehole, I am not surprised his antics have finally brought the whole thing crashing down. I feel bad for Codemasters though as it sounds like they have essentially been ripped off as F1 is pretty much over without what amounts to all the key teams...

They could still have the 2009 teams. The game is after all still called Formula One 2009.

It would suck for Codemasters if this stays as it is.

If the F1 does go under, then all companies with contracts supposedly have grounds to terminate contract based on the fact that they are no longer getting what they paid for, in this case the best teams.

Meh, I hope the F1new is "fun" (puts on flame suit) so we can see more overtaking and crashes ect.

These images are 640 X 360, with no obvious signs of Antialiasing (other than the game's own) or Pshop englargement from the psp's native 480x272; the pixels look either genuine, or scaled down from something larger (but what company would scale DOWN?)

I'd guess that this was the Wii version, and that they've had to under-crank from 480p. F1 games are a bitch for framerate.

What's up?
  • blmbox
blmbox Yeah, but judging by the content of both reviews, Eurogamer didn't particularly care much for the game anyway. They probably only gave it an 8 to avoid controversy - the review sounded more like a 6. (2 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX 6 to 8 split on Eurogamer, which isn't quite as large but still pretty significant. (4 Hours ago)
  • SimonM7
SimonM7 Yeah sure, but from what console reviews are saying it's perfectly adequate. I mean I'm sure PC is the way to go, but I sincerely doubt we're seeing a 5 to 9 split score wise or anything. (4 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX not that the Xbox version is "that bad" by most accounts either.. there are plenty of people here playing it who adore it.. but the PC game is recieving higher marks across the board (4 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX @SimonM7: I doubt that's true too, if other reviews I've read are any indication. The game was designed around an interface that's not represented on the Xbox.. (4 Hours ago)
  • SimonM7
SimonM7 I doubt PC and 360 scores would differ much in EDGE, they simply don't fancy it. DA on the 360 is fine as long as you like the underlying game. (4 Hours ago)
  • callmekymbo
callmekymbo is DA on the 360 really that bad? I can't run it on my pc so the eggbox is my only viable alternative (5 Hours ago)
