Max Payne 3: first images

Max Payne 3: first images

Rockstar has finally decided to release the first screenshots of Max Payne 3. We had already seen these pictures in ugly scans, so it is a pleasure to rediscover them in a decent quality. The third episode of the adventures of the most depressed cop in the history of video games is developed by Rockstar Vancouver (Bully), which raises some concerns about the fact that the series might head too far from its roots. However, the creators of GTA have rarely disappointed us so far, so let's keep faith for now.

I sure am. Rockstar + Rage engine + Great Franchise = highly potential greatness!

you can certainly tell it's using R*s Engine and that it's made by R* in general...but it looks pretty nice overall. although i kinda feel i've seen it all before...almost like they've taken max payne and turned into a generic third person cover based shooter....hopefully i'm wrong and its all sorts of awesome.

time will tell i guess.

Sadly, I hate how the series has turned out to be.

Like Uncharted?

Anyone else thinks these look too good to be true?

Vegetation looks better than Crysis Warhead, Uncharted 2 or RE5.

These images are meaningles until we see them in motion. Gameplay is what these games were about.

i hope max doesnt walk around as slow as johnny from lost and damned. they both seem to have the same sort of "heft" to them, but my god he was like a freaking tank to control.

Preview from Game Informer suggests that it's in Sao Paolo.

I barely see any veg. But this lone palm in pic does not look better than lets say in PGR3

doesnt look very dark and moody film noir inspired anymore... looks more like he's meeting Nathan Drake for a dinner date

Looks absolutely nothing like a Max Payne game in any way. Seems pointless to use the Payne name at all.

On the one hand I'm giving R* the thumbs up and on the other I'm flipping them the bird.

I loved the atmosphere of the first and whilst I wouldn't want a carbon copy of the previous games, a part of me thinks they may have gone too far.

BUT, It does look great and I'm pretty confident it will be a good game. Plus I'm interested to see where they take Max.

So until I see the final game I'm going to try to keep my mind open.

We need to see more.. But ditching the New York setting doesn't seem like a good move so far....

Hmmm, Max has really let himself go :)

I'm somewhat cynical, no idea how they hope to get the Max Payne vibe in this scenario. Are Remedy playing any part at all in this?

Reminds me of The Rundown with Dwayne Johnson, except with a beer gut and a beard. I am too becoming a bit jaded of this whole American renegade tackling his demons in a barbaric, uncivilized tropical region.
It also looks a bit too much like Kane and Lynch...maybe because of the scars and the psychopath look on his face.
As for the gameplay; where could they go with this? The first two games were great TPS's and had nice gunplay from what I can remember...
Hopefully they won't just go with the remedial shooter conventions of just adding in cover based shootouts and whatnot. Meh... Maybe this franchise doesn't need a reboot. But hey, if they polish it enough to be a standout and make the storytelling appealing then it might be worth a rent at least.

Wow another western game where the main character has a shaved head. Is that the only way they know how to make edgy or angry. It's good to see Nathan and Sam Fisher decide to do their versions of attitude with hair.

The terrible thing is that this will no doubt be a good game that one shouldn't outright shun, but on the other hand it'll be so far removed from Max Payne that it is an insult to everything Remedy established and therefore it seems like an insult in itself to play this and send the message that Rockstar are doing the right thing.

Regardless of how good this game is I still won't feel that Max Payne 2 ever actually got a sequel, and then what's the bloody point of calling this Max Payne in the first place?
Commented on 2009-06-24 00:20:47
not a fan of this series...thought the first two games were over hyped...

doesn't look very appealing

  • aphex187
aphex187 @GriftGFX: I've always enjoyed BF3, always it's just I was playing DayZ more back then. Once the maps are ported over then back to 4 but we'll wait and see which ones do (1 Hour ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX But I'll take Seinne and Kharg Island too :P (2 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX @aphex187: You didn't find BF3 interesting until a week ago. BF3's expansions are great.. vanilla maps... eh. Once Bazaar is in BF4 I don't see the point. (2 Hours ago)
  • aphex187
aphex187 @Doom_Bringer: If they incorporated the movement and gun mechanics of BF3 then it would be the perfect BF package. I hardly find any of the BF4 maps interesting, one reason why i've gone back to 3. (3 Hours ago)
  • Phaethon360
Phaethon360 @GriftGFX: I hope that's in fact what they do with Battlefront. (4 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX I'm honestly more interested in see DICE LA make their own game. They should do the 2142 sequel. I hope Sweden has been paying attention to BF4. Their B-Team turned it into a much better game. (6 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX I hope Battlefront is more like BC2.. so BF5 can be another Battlefield game. (6 Hours ago)
