Atlus announces Baroque

Fans of dungeon-crawling RPGs will be pleased to learn the development of a videogame called Baroque by Atlus. Defined as hardcore, it is awaited for the Playstation 2 and Nintendo Wii systems in February 2008 (North America). Its official website just went live with the very first screenshots from the PS2 build. This production rymes with dark fantasy and metaphysic monsters. It's promising and gives me Shin Megami Tensei flashbacks.

Mmmm, the Shin Megami Tensei series on the PS2 was fantastic, very original and enjoyable. I'm liking the style of this, as it's got a familiar feel while still retaining a wholly original style. It actually almost reminds me of Gungrave (the art style).

So if this is hardcore, what's Nethack?

Looks ok, about time Atlus jumped on this generations console though.

Atlus' definition of hardcore is grinding. I think I'll pass.

i think thats the definition of hardcore for any dungeoncrawler rpg (nevermind pretty much the basis of all their gameplay). don't like grinding you should probably pass on the subgenre as a whole, period.

BAROQUE!

I always wanted to play this on Saturn (it's a saturn game originally and supposedly quite a good one at that) but the whole being in japanese thing put me off it.

I'll definitely pick it up if it comes out here.

Played the PS1 port of the Saturn original back in the day, it was OK, hope they improved it somewhat.

About the game

What's up?
  • KORNdog
KORNdog [url] short biomutant gameplay. (9 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog i think it'll be fine. it's an in-development title, with a budget on-par with an indie game. you're not going to get the next horizon visually. (43 minutes ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog you know what i remember about shenmue? wooden delivery of lines and wooden animation. it was about awkwardly walking and running around an environment asking mundane questions (45 minutes ago)
  • alimokrane
alimokrane I am sorry nostalgia or not, those shenmues characters look like shot... This is truly embarrassing (1 Hour ago)
  • nostradamus
nostradamus locations, and not really a game in development. So much time hiding a game, and this is wath the well known perfections Yu Suzuki shows with a straith face? Fucking kikckstarter strikes again! (3 Hours ago)
  • nostradamus
nostradamus game, and it just had some dead eyes faces plasted to the mocaped bodies, it was trully bad. And the deserted city streets. This seems like a talented modder modeling of a "2000's type" of shenmue (3 Hours ago)
  • nostradamus
nostradamus @AndreasZ94: too low? this is the 2007 where a fraction of AAA games had a facial mo-cap rig. The main characters are the low bar of what we expect of decent facial expressions and lip-sync in this (3 Hours ago)
