The last thing I was thinking while playing Bioshock was how much I'd like to play it competitively :-/

Me neither, but this looks pretty good. If they can come up with some good gametypes which are coherent with the whole Bioshock atmosphere, I think the multiplayr could really add something. I did play the first one twice, but didn't get much more replay value out of it than that.

I think multiplayer modes in franchises dedicated to an outstanding single-player experience (like Bioshock and Uncharted) are made solely for the purpose of pleasing this idiotic "if it doesn't have multiplayer, it's a waste of money" crowd.

Well, I don't need a multiplayer in Bioshock 2 at all. Even if I have to admit, it looks not bad.

If I want an outstanding multiplayer, I'll pop in good ol' Warhawk. Best multiplayer game ever in my opinion. If even CoD, BF and all the other popular MP franchises fail to change that opinion, nobody should expect me to give this Bioshock 2 multiplayer any attention beyond trying it out once or twice.

I agree about how people hate on a game too much for not having MP. That said, a GOOD mp component does add a ton of value to games like CoD or Halo that wouldn't be nearly as popular otherwise.

But Uncharted 2 and Bioshock are great examples of games that do the single player aspect really great, but the gameplay does not translate well to MP, or at least for me. I thought Uncharted 2 was the best single player experience of 2009 (maybe demons souls comes close) but the MP did not feel like it belonged in the same league as it's AAA single player. I can't see bioshock's gameplay doing much better.

I could be wrong, but I just don't see this style of weaponry and gameplay style translating well to a competition based atmosphere. But I do hope i'm wrong.

I think Naughty Dog's IGN article about single player experience was something all devs should read.

all i can do is echo everyone..multiplayer and Bioshock to me just don't compute...it all looks very unbalanced and not needed.
