Blade Kitten gets claws out

Let's continue with downloadable games, as Atari has just announced a game based on the comic book series Blade Kitten, coming in september on XBLA, PSN and PC.

Press Release:

Lyon, France — July 7, 2010 — Atari Europe, one of the world’s most recognized videogame publishers, announced today the upcoming European launch of Blade Kitten, the videogame based on the comic book series by creator Steve Stamatiadis. Developed by Krome Studios, Blade Kitten brings the world of bounty hunter Kit Ballard to life and will launch this September on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation ®Network, and Windows PC Download at Atari.com.

“We are pleased to announce the upcoming launch of Blade Kitten for Xbox LIVE Arcade, Playstation®Network and PC Download”, said John Burns, Vice President and General Manager for Atari Europe. “With its colourful anime inspired universe, simple pick up and play arcade action and intuitive scramble style exploration Blade Kitten is destined to become one of the hot digital releases of 2010”

Blade Kitten marks the latest creation by Mr. Stamatiadis, the force behind the multi-million selling TY the Tasmanian Tiger series. In Blade Kitten, a prequel to the comics set three years prior; players are invited into the world of Hollow Wish where they take on the role of Kit Ballard, one of the best bounty hunters in the business. With her pink hair and tail, Kit is part cat, part girl - and fully lethal. As one of the last of her species, Kit commands her unique “Darque Blade” hovering sword to defeat enemies. Also along for the ride is Skiffy, Kit’s laid-back sidekick who lends a hand in collecting items, solving puzzles, and when needed, serves as Kit’s protector.

Blade Kitten goes beyond most downloadable titles to deliver a strong narrative, with high-quality cinematics, and a colourful, frenetic visual style, that lends to the pick-up-and-play arcade action. Players will jump right in and easily begin exploring and fighting their way through 19 levels, including three exploration levels with Noot (a rideable alien mount). Blade Kitten also features innovative gameplay mechanics, intuitive “scramble style” exploration, fully voiced dialogue, dramatic narrative and a powerful distinct anime-inspired visual direction.

I have no idea if gameplay is good is but i can instantly say that the character design makes me want to toss my lunch. Looks like the wet dream of some naruto fapping japanophile. I look at it and instantly think that it was designed like that to draw a certain demographic in, not because the creators thought it was a cool, unique design. That makes me a sad panda.

But hey, some sword swinging sidescroller action might be fun in spite of it's fanwak-webcomic art style.

Ugh, i just read the first few pages of the comic and it's like a 10 year old with ADHD wrote it...A cat-girl with pink hair, dressed in lingerie, fights a skull faced robot with racing stripes and the sexual innuendos start at page f***ing one. Awesome stuff there.

Wow, it's amateur hour again. I wonder how dreck like this ever gets green lit.

Because all play-tests have said the gameplay is fresh and polished.

Sweet! 10 year-old ADHD sufferers FTW!

It looks alright, better than most of the things on the Indie channel anyway...

Except it's developed by a real developer, not some bedroom programmer, and to be released on PSN.

  • MrWhite
MrWhite He's boring McGenericFace thing, with horns. And he wants to collect a couple of box things to...yep...take over the world. He's the destroyer of worlds, yadda yadda. Zzzzzzzz Oh, fuck off... (1 Hour ago)
  • MrWhite
MrWhite Yeah, I'd say the most generic and boring villain I can recall. He's something that stepped out of a 90's cartoon or comic book TV series or something. Entirely all CGI too. (1 Hour ago)
  • MrWhite
MrWhite @KORNdog: I can't even remember suicide squad, and I only watched it a few months ago. (1 Hour ago)
  • KORNdog
KORNdog @MrWhite: more boring than whatever it was in suicide squad? i can't even remeber what that thing was called or what it looked like. lol (4 Hours ago)
  • MrWhite
MrWhite Though JL was the biggest pile of wank. Any time Flash was on screen and opened his gob, I wanted to smack him. It also had probably the most boring villain in a comic book film ever. (4 Hours ago)
  • droezelke
droezelke @KORNdog: I think they increased the prices with the launch of the X1x. (10 Hours ago)
