Capcom to re-release Onimusha: Warlords

Capcom to re-release Onimusha: Warlords

Capcom has announced that January 15 2019 will see the re-release of 2001 title Onimusha: Warlords. The game will bring high-definition graphics, widescreen display option, a new soundtrack and a few more features. It's coming digitally for $19.99 on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Switch with physical editions available for Sony and Microsoft's consoles. Now, does that mean a new game from the franchise is in development? Share your thoughts.

Classic Samurai Adventure Onimusha: Warlords Coming in January 2019

Step into a feudal world filled with magic, samurais, and demon warriors, as Onimusha: Warlords comes to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam on January 15, 2019. Originally released in 2001, Onimusha: Warlords successfully blended thrilling action with a cinematic story to achieve over 2 million copies sold worldwide. Now Capcom brings the original sword fighting action title to current video game systems with updated features including high-definition graphics, widescreen display option, analog stick support, a readily available Easy Mode option, and new soundtrack.

The game will be available as a digital purchase across North America and Europe for MSRP $19.99 on all formats with a physical release in North America available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Onimusha: Warlords follows the battle-filled journey of samurai Samanosuke Akechi and ninja Kaede on a quest to save Princess Yuki from a legion of mysterious demons who have invaded Inabayama Castle. As the two travel throughout the castle, they unravel a malevolent plot by those who would serve the evil lord Nobunaga Oda. Using sword-based combat, a magical Oni Gauntlet and puzzle solving, players need to call on both brawn and creativity to defeat the demonic foes.

Same, but not just stop there. I hope this is just the first step in remastering all the main games in the franchise in high-definition.

Looking forward to Onimusha 3 and Dawn of Dreams as well. Hopefully, this leads to Capcom remastering the Dino Crisis and/or Breath of Fire games.

They're older, but DC could get a simple uplift like Resident Evil 0, 1 and Code Veronica, while BoF could get a Collection release like Mega Man and Mega Man X received.

The great thing though is that if this - and subsequent sequels - sells well enough, Capcom might greenlit a new Onimusha game. At least that's the pattern they've been following lately, where franchises they bother to remaster and re-release eventually get a new sequel - Mega Man 11, Devil May Cry 5.

But most important of all, I'm just damn happy Capcom is finally at its peak again, during the PS3 era they certainly had some troubles and struggled to make good decisions. When the meme "Crapcom" was born.

But now they seem to be going from hit to hit and their games are really great. A strong Capcom is the best to everyone, as they make some of the best and most fun games.

I REALLY hope they remaster (if not remake) all of the Onimusha series.

Forget remaster Capcom. You rebooted RE2 and updated where it seems like a new game. Onimusha deserves nothing less.

Am i the only one skeptical of the RE2 remake. in it's presentation where Leon is supposed to unlock doors through a computer, he instead goes through all areas without first unlocking anything, or use keys or do any puzzles. the remake feels more action, less puzzles. the demo blows through many areas that needed something first.

As with all resident evil games there is a fairly large chunk of explorable area that requires no puzzles or keys. That's all we've seen of the remake so far, that and a contained boss fight with Claire. We already know there is the main fountain puzzle and Leon's desk. But that area in the original wasn't exactly puzzle heavy either. And that doesn't even include the entire opening section we haven't seen where Leon travels through the streets to the police station.

RE 2 was more an action game by that point in the series anyway. Way more-so than the first game at least. Lots more enemies on screen. Lots more ammo. Lots more action. Makes sense for the remake to be equally action oriented. I'm jusy happy they've nailed the atmosphere and locations.
