Looks pretty. I hear it's too "old school" for it's own good, though.

Will have to check this out. I loved the original.

Actually it's NOT old skool enough for it's own good. Had they gone with the same kind of fidelity Mighty No.9 is trying to achieve i would have welcomed it with open arms. Now it's just another bummer like Flashback that nobody wants to play.

^^how is higher "fidelity" more "old skool?" I don't get it.

Megaman 8/9 are oldschool. Mighty No. 9? Notsomuch.

I think the issue with it is that it has retro game length, without the retro difficulty to give you your moneys worth.

I'd have preferred a remake of The Magical Quest myself.

You know... sprites n stuff, like Duck Tales, Muramasa, Arcana Heart, Hard Corps to name a few.

This one's so much better than the remake of DuckTales.

The PC version is clearly not, it's locked at 30 fps and the game doesn't even look smooth. :s

Do NOT buy the PC version of this. It's an absolute train wreck. You'll be very lucky to get 30fps, even on a pretty high spec PC.

It's too bad no platform gets to play this at a proper frame rate. (60fps)

Yes on the PC it's locked at steady 30fps, but apart from that. It's not a bad little game. Controls feels a little wooly, and the animation does get in the way of the collision detection too sometimes. We need more stuff like this though on the PC. A lot of old timers, like me have decent enough PCs and games like this are a nice change.

I was really looking forward to this but 30fps means no buy...

"old sk00l" does not mean only 2D, sorry. There's a feel, a rhythm and a lot of rough warts. If games could be defined as old sk00l merely by aesthetic, then anyone running a pixelate filter on their game would be "old sk00l".

When I said it's too old school for its own good, I'm referencing the controls, collision detection, the slave to animation states, basically the way the old game felt. It was great back then, but not so much now. Ducktales, Flashback and now Mickey prove that you can never go back. If you're going to do something "old", you need the flavour... the way people remember it, not the way it really was.

If I wanted to play a game exactly the way it was, I've got plenty of emulators for that. I want something that has the spirit and is true to those old games, but not slaves to them.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up, but yet i think a 2D HD treat (without the pixelated stuff) would have fitted the game much much better. I for one think the Duck Tales remake is very well done, almost perfect for a remake tbh (with only thing that can be improved further being the stage gfx). And I also think that controls and collision detection NEED to be as simple and close to the original to feel right -> again: 'modernized' analog controls in Flashback is what kills the game for me. In Castle of Illusion it's the 3D.

GriftGFX But they haven't stayed consistent. In BF1 the best vanilla SMG is *by far* the hardest to unlock. (2 Hours ago)

GriftGFX Example: the best AR in BF3/4 is the AEK and it's one of the first guns you unlock in both games. (2 Hours ago)

GriftGFX @Tinks: Right.. a lot of their unlocks avoid this issue by putting all the best stuff at the front of the unlock tree. (2 Hours ago)
  • Tinks
Tinks the unlock rate is bad when it means gaining perk advantages against others with less playtime. (3 Hours ago)

GriftGFX and then letting you use those weapons against users who don't have them has always seemed wrong to me (9 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX @MikeManiac61: I don't mind the unlock rate too much (although there are a few exceptions in BF1) since they frontload the best weapons a lot of the time. But locking good weapons behind DLC (9 Hours ago)

MikeManiac61 @GriftGFX: Having the same sentiments. It's reminding me of Battlefront 2 and their system where you have to grind so much for an unlock. (9 Hours ago)
