Characters of Red Dead Redemption

Characters of Red Dead Redemption

Like in any good western movie, good, bad and ugly characters will be part of the world of Red Dead Redemption. Here are a few of them so you can get an idea what to expect when you "bite the bullet" on May 18 in North America and May 21 in Europe.

Oh man, the wait is killing me and the screen shots and videos that have been released over the past couple weeks aren't making it any more bearable. >_<;;

That guy in the 6th picture either has a serious tailoring problem, or the clap.
I'm not taking anything away from the game here... but man... man.

There's simply little else that excites me besides Alan Wake and this game.

And to think that Take Two needs to sell at least 4 million copies to break-even with RDR. You can certainly tell by the level of detail and scripting that this is another labor of love from the Rockstar team.

I can't see the reviews being other than positive on this fabulous game and thus helping to sell a few 100.000 copies more! But will it break 3.5 or 4 million?

I love Western movies and thus far I don't believe any game has captured that era in videogame form like what RDR is trying to achieve here. Most kids nowadays are into hyper-realistic-modern-warfare-shooters. It wouldn't surprise me that Crackdown 2 will sell better than most Sandbox games out this year.

The conundrum with this title is that for the masses that hail games like Crackdown and Just Cause there's not much over-the-top action and excitement in the screenshots. Being on horse-back is the fastest way of travel versus leaping over buildings in games like Crackdown.

However, I do feel that there's a large slice of the market that will embrace a more serious title like RDR. If the gun play, cover-system and framerate end up being listed as PROS in most reviews than I do see this title selling at least 3.5 million copies Xbox 360 (60%) - PS 3 (40%)! I do believe that being the ONLY game out this year having a Western theme will stand out unique enough for a must-have game of 2010.

And I believe that Borderlands had that same lucky faith on its side.

Alas, I just realized that Alan Wake is to be released in that same week as RDR! That will certainly NOT help!

No doubt it'll sell that much actually. They're gonna spend much more money on advertising than on GTA4. It's not the case of 'if', but 'when' they gonna reach such number.
Besides, just look at it :). You really think it won't sell as much?

Assassin's Creed 2 sold 6.7 million world wide between the Xbox and the PS3. That's about 2.3 million less than the first AC. Even though every review said that AC 2 was a complete improvement over the first one.

Those sales are an absolute indication that those titles sell because of their uniqueness and quality.

Uncharted 2 didn't sell better than the first Uncharted, at least not by a large margin. Many people will go with the experience a game gave them the first time around and decide their purchase on subsequent installments. I found Uncharted 2 to be a much improved game over the first one but many of my friends simply didn't bother to pick it up.

Of course what we have to interject at this juncture is that other great games are always the 1 st reason to forgo on a specific title.

Alan Wake is certainly going to take some limelight away from RDR. But I do believe that RDR is unique enough to warrant that extra squeeze out of your pocket.

With games like RDR I only wish they sold like MW2. But the truth is that the structure of these games (sandbox) have the player hit boredom faster than they anticipated. There's only so many uniquely designed missions you can surprise the player with. 60% of the missions are a rehash, an exercise in rinse and repeat.

You would be surprised how many people actually finished AC 2 or GTA IV!

The nature of games like MW2 are a dead certainty that you will get at least 8 hours worth of your money and about 120 hours of multiplayer fun. MW2 left me completely cold with it's insipid storyline and rush-on-forward gameplay. But those games sell!

this wont do the same numbers GTA4 shifted. GTA's an established franchise, with a ready made install base of millions. How many bought the first Red dead? how many even know there was a first Red dead?

If the questions not "if", but "when", then the answers..never.

The game will definitely make a profit. It won't be a huge profit, given the sky-high production costs, but there is enough buzz among the hardcore to ensure strong sales, provided nothing unexpected occurs (like the game getting universally panned by critics, which I highly doubt will happen).

You are on the mark about the structure of sandbox styled games. I did not finish AC2, GTAIV, or Infamous for the very reasons you mentioned.

LOL I didnt finished AC2 either but not because I didnt want it too but because there was just too much to do with the side missions that eventually became more important to me,I pln on do it though.

As for this game I will finish it in like months,I will do every side mission and clear every town and everything in the first try I will not rush to finish it.
