Colin McRae Dirt 2 drifts in the dust

Colin McRae Dirt 2 drifts in the dust

You've been asking for it, et voilà ! Our gameplay video of Colin McRae: Dirt 2's fifth E3 track. Please forgive my alcoholic driving, I foolishly thought that my little reflexes of the first episode could come back on the first try. They didn't - added to the fact that it's a really difficult track - but it won't prevent you from enjoying the supernatural beauty of the game.

E3: Track 5

The artist and graphics whore in me will not allow me to pass this one up. Only complaint- they need to make it easier to see in the cockpit view. Otherwise, this makes me have Rally Sport Challenge flashbacks :D...

WOW Snoopers, was your guide dog doing the driving or something :-)
The game looks incredible. The lighting gives it a CGI quality. Very impressive.
Damn, now I have to buy this, Need for Speed Shift and Forza 3.
My wife is going to divorce me :-)

Lol, at first glance I thought the title said: "Colin McRae bites the dust".

I was already thinking...kind of a morbid title for a news item...

Edit: Game looks amazing btw! In terms of graphics I can only conclude nothing comes even close to this...

Thats looks cool no doubt, can't wait to give it a try myself.

The graphics are truely amazing. It's incredible what these consoles are capable of. The frame rate looks to be solid (unlike Dirt 1). Could this look even better on PC (except for higher resolutions)? These are bold words, but these graphics come very close to Crysis, although you can't compare the games.
Because I'm a bit of a graphics whore, I think this will be a day 1 purchase.

Actually, I think the graphics are better than Crysis. Or atleast, they look more real to me. It's not a fair comparison though, as Crysis is much more dynamic, especially in terms of physics etc.

Crysis is still easily, technically the most advanced game out there.

I agree. But the physics in Dirt2 (car damage, destructible road barriers, little trees, deformation of the track, particle physics) are also impressive. Crysis vanilla does look more 'modelled', but you should play Crysis with the impressive mod 'realifesys'. With that mod Crysis looks close to photo-realism.

Snoopers, do the cars feel more weighty this time around?
Commented on 2009-06-16 18:31:04
The damage does not look convincing.

Graphic look's amazing but driver is worse.:P
Commented on 2009-06-16 19:02:17
wow! I can feel the weight of the truck, so nice!

How are the controls?

You drive like me. Good thing these are just games or I would be out in a field upside down on fire.

God i have such high hopes for this game. I just hope it's not like the Mitsubishi Eclipse....a practice in style over substance hehe....

From what i have read though the physics are a decent amount better so I think this should be great fun online and with friends.

Amazing lighting really does wonders for racers. More than any other genre it seems.

Actually, I've played it with Reallifesys quite a while back already...I've been following Hawkeye's work for a while now, and can't wait to see his next project (RE: ALight) release.

However, his mod (not really a mod as he "just" altered the Time of Day settings) isn't consistently AS impressive troughout. Many levels and area's (especially shaded area's) still look a bit off, especially with characters and vehicles in place. Still, it kicks the shit out of the vanilla settings and for "mearly" adjusting the TOD settings, it's very impressive what he's done!

I just think the art of Crysis is lacking on many occasions, whereas, in this vid atleast, Dirt seems to nail it perfectly!

Am I the only one that finds the title of this article completely tasteless?

Love the lighting in the game though, echo the comments of those above

wow, looks like they've matched or even surpassed the famous motorstorm target render.
