Duke nukem 3d was not a 3d game it was more like 2.5d but far from 3d.
Enemies, objects in game etc were normal 2d pictures not 3d polygons.
Quake 1 was first "trully" 3d game.

Not even close. Quake did not come out until 1996, but was preceded by Virtua Racing and Comanche, in 1992. And both of those were preceded by Hard Drivin', as far back as 1989. And even that was preceded by wireframe, vector 3D games like Tempest (or almost every game that ever shipped on the Vectrex game console) going all the way back to 1980.

But for the first 3D FPS that used polygons instead of sprites or voxels to render the 3D effect, then yes, it is Quake.

Depends on what you mean by 3D, there were "trully" 3D games before Quake. Quake was the first using poylgons.

Edit: Damn you FreeSwag

shoot, some games that are coming out still use some sprite based stuff.

Seems like I've been waiting forever to see who voiced Duke.
I'm so relieved!

Corporation should be remembered, when talking about 3D first-person shooter games.

I love these videos about the history of development. The Volition stuff was equally great.

GriftGFX One of the most famous cases of seller a remorse I can think of is James Cameron selling Terminator.. For one dollar (51 minutes ago)
  • Megido
Megido @GriftGFX: The books are very different from the games, yes. (1 Hour ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX Despite assuming the books are MUCH better.. CDPR's shitty writing didn't make me want to read the books. (2 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX Dammit.. I was like, wait, no.. I don't want to start a Witcher discussion. It's just standard seller's remorse stuff. (2 Hours ago)
  • MikeManiac61
MikeManiac61 @Megido: That's what I did. Never heard of the books until the game came out. Zapkowsi should be happy, I've bought all of the books so far. (2 Hours ago)

asdfg @Megido: oh I see. Cheers. (3 Hours ago)
