E3: Halo Infinite in glorious 4K

Let's continue our super high quality coverage of Microsoft's conference with a game people are eagerly waiting for, Halo Infinite. As you can see, developer 343 Industries has decided to use the Xbox One X hardware to its full potential. Just as exciting is the impression this trailer gives that the series is about to return to more open spaces.

This seriously gave me the impression that Halo Infinite/6 is about to go open world, or at least having wide open area levels like Rise of the Tomb Raider. Which would be very cool imho.

As cliché as it is, large open spaces are perfect for Battle Royale. Not sure if it would make sense for Halo, but that's the trend nowadays. If CoD and BF are doing BR, no reason why Halo wouldn't.

Halo was originally pitched as taking place in a large open environment. I got heavy vibes from that old '99 trailer in this trailer. The armor in this trailer even looks like a super sharp version of the Halo 1 armor. I haven't played a Halo game in a long time but I may check this one out. Especially if it gets a Windows release.

this is why i think this halo is going to be a god of war-like "reboot". it's technically a continuation of the story the previous games told, but it's gameplay is completely removed from what those games were. the fact they've said it's a continuation of halo 5 but it's not halo 6 says to me it's going to be simply "halo" and it's going to be something quite different. which imo is what the series desperately needs. 343 living in the shadow of bungie isn't working out, they need to be free to do what they want with the franchise and call it their own.

I'd agree. I haven't played a Halo game in I don't know how long. They need to do something different. I've really always wanted to see a version of the game that did take after that old '99 trailer I mentioned. Third person perhaps, large open environments, more tactical. Make the enemies less bullet spongey and easier to dispatch but make the player just as frail so that planning is important. That, or go full Doom with the gameplay to really make playing as a Spartan feel as bad ass as it's described in the books. Either way, there needs to be a shift.
