Warner Bros. has published these few images of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, which must be followed by a trailer. Please note that this Action/RPG game will be playable by up to three players in co-op mode.

second pic looks really good. Is this an RPG, hack'n slash, or what?

Question: Is this the game were you can create your own character and play in LOTR universe in a hack and slash RPG style?

If so, I am interested!
On the images I dont see any of the main characters so I assume yes.

We have yet to get a proper game from this rich and great universe, nobody can seem to really nail it.

I think it was LOTR Conquest? had shitty combat, the melee was aweful, too clunky and annoying.

Hopefully this one does it right :)

Yes it is. You choose from an Elf, Man or Dwarf, but can customise them to a considerable extent; if you've ever played Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance on the PS2 of Champion of Norrath, you'll know exactly what to expect. It's a whole new story arc as well, as the story of happenings in the northern parts of Middle-earth have never really been explored - heck, they weren't even mentioned in great detail in the books.

Snowblind is known for creating great action-RPGs - Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance remains one of my favourite games on the PS2 - so I expect this one to be decent. Whether it'll do the material justice remains to be seen though.

The graphics don't look particularly impressive on the basis of these screens, but in Gamespot's demo impressions they said that the visuals were looking pretty sharp, so maybe these pictures just aren't very flattering - screenshots rarely are I guess.

I havent played Dark Alliance :(

But in short, how much of a customization are we talking about?
Face customization, hair colors and style...etc. Mass Effect depth or Dragons Age?

Also the camera, is it your typical behind the character combat or is it from above?
I assume from above.

I like games were it takes places in the same universe as a movie or comic, but it is alternated, like Star Wars TFU.

I just hope the combat is great and there is loot hunting LOL

In Dark Alliance, you had a set of three characters and you chose one of them. You could not customise their appearance in terms of hair colour etcetera, but you could create a unique appearance through armour/clothing and so on. I never played Champion of Norrath, but as far as I know you could alter your character's facial appearance to a certain degree.

I have no idea what this game will entail in terms of customising your base character, but there's a chance it'll allow for facial customisation. It sounds as though the Human will be the 'Wizard' class, the Elf will be the 'Ranged' class and the Dwarf will be the 'Warrior' class, although apparently there will be some degree of flexibility in your character's skills and abilities - in other words, I think they're saying that if you choose to be the Human race, you can still develop him to be accomplished at close combat (I hope that's what it means anyway).

Snowblind's games are traditionally from an isometric angle - i.e. from above (Diablo-esque) - and I doubt this'll be any different.

I hope it'll be good, I really do. In other news, The Lord of the Rings: Online will be free to play starting from this Fall, so if this game fails I always have that to fall back on for my LOTR game fix.

About the game

What's up?

MikeManiac61 @GriftGFX: I'm still trying to find to figure the spread and recoil for BF1. Since the weapon mechanics is pretty different than BF4. (2 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX I don't imagine using as many guns per class in BF1. Searching for that best solution for each kit really. I do like the Mondragon. (2 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX My favorite BF4 assault rifle isn't even the best. I've played a lot of SCAR-H, AEK, FAMAS.. all amazing. My favorite.. F2000. Bullpups FTW. (2 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX BF4 is like gun porn. The only thing I don't like about its gun selection is the lack of an M16A3.. because people cried about how good it was in BF3 :D (2 Hours ago)
  • MikeManiac61
MikeManiac61 @GriftGFX: But you're right. It does feel barebones at the moment, knowing EA they saved the best for the DLC. (2 Hours ago)
  • GriftGFX
GriftGFX A lot of the time I've spent playing Calvary has been off the horse tbh.. it does make you a target. (2 Hours ago)
  • MikeManiac61
MikeManiac61 I'm probably the only one that doesn't mind the low weapon count. After playing BF4 which was bloated with weapons when i only used 2-3. (2 Hours ago)
