EA TURNS UP THE HEAT WITH NEED FOR SPEED HOT PURSUIT
Cops and Racers + Hot Cars + Your Friends = Endless Competition
Guildford, UK – June 14, 2010 – Criterion reinvents Need for SpeedTM Hot Pursuit for the connected generation. Criterion Games, a studio of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today that the award-winning development team is making the latest installment in the renowned Need for Speed franchise. Inspired by the classic game of the same name, Criterion will reveal Need for Speed Hot Pursuit for the very first time today at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. Launching in November 2010, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit brings the franchise back to its roots with intense cops vs. racer chases. Criterion also ups the ante with the introduction of an all-new online network called Need for Speed Autolog where players compare racing stats and automatically get personalized gameplay recommendations from their friends– a feature that is poised to transform online racing for the connected generation.
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit players will experience the thrill of the chase and the rush of the escape as they play through full careers as both a cop and a racer – solo or connected. The high speed busts and heart-stopping getaways are all connected via Need for Speed Autolog. This network not only connects friends for epic head-to head pursuits and races, but also enables players to compare performances and stats, thereby setting the stage for the ultimate in social competition.
Craig Sullivan, Creative Director of the game said, “At Criterion, we’ve been playing Need for Speed since it was first introduced on 3DO. We are honored and excited by the opportunity to reinvent the franchise for today’s connected audience. Our goal has been to create cops vs. racers pursuits that are so fun, fast and exciting it really brings to life the adrenaline and intensity of the high speed cop pursuit experience with your friends”.
Developed by Criterion Games, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit will be available on November 19th 2010 on the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and PC. Need for Speed Hot Pursuit will also be available on the WiiTM and is being developed by Exient.
AWESOME!! The mode they demoed was boring though. Should have shown a real race with AI cars. But I gotta be honest, its gonna be tough to beat Split/Second
Kinda late, there is already Hot Pursuit 2. Shouldn't this be, like, 3?
But yeah, it looks really hot. The question is, how much like this the actual game will be?

Agreed. I just don't understand all this name-recycling (XCOM, now this). It diminishes the awesomeness of the first game.
Also, forty years from now, when I tell my grandkids (if I have any) how great playing NFS Hot Pursuit was with my buddies, they'll think it was this one (not that I'm saying it won't be great, but it's hard to match up to the greatness of NFS3 back in 1998).

Posted by itaintrite My friends and I spent countless hours playing Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2 :) Fingers crossed it'll have split-screen multiplayer.
Yeah, HP2 was my favorite NFS game, until Most Wanted was released.
Though, as much as I liked the open world/progressive nature of Most Wanted, it will be nice to get back to the more arcade style of play of the Hot Pursuits.
So it should really be called NFS:HP 2010. And if Criterion is doing this you can all forget about split screen. Remember Burnout Paradise.
I wonder what engine it will use. Will it handle like Burnout?
The cop Veyron's driver must be some rookie, btw. Murcielago just flew past him like nothing which in reality shouldn't be possible as Veyron's one of the fastest cars.

@Moonwalker: That's a little suspect, since standing out in the open in either of those other games will get you killed pretty quickly too. Using cover is a bread and butter FPS skill set. (8 minutes ago)

@Moonwalker: sounds great to me. Gameplay vids looked great. I actually might pick it up for the co-op alone. (12 minutes ago)

and expect to survive for more than a few seconds. It forces you to think strategically, to plan ahead and use cover at all times' 8.5, 8 from eurogamer as well. But this sounds exactly what i hoped 4 (28 minutes ago)

IGN Future Soldier quote : "Play Future Soldier as you would Call of Duty or Battlefield and you won’t last long. It’s a punishing game in some respects, and you cannot stand out in the open (29 minutes ago)

No racing game will come close this year!
But yeah, it looks really hot. The question is, how much like this the actual game will be?

Oh and... Criterion Games? Didn't they make the Burnout series? Well then, one thing is for sure: it'll have great car crashes.
RIP Criterion

We don't need another mediocre NFS, we need new burnout for Xbox and PS3
