E3: Steep gameplay

E3: Steep gameplay

This year surprise announcement at Ubisoft's press conference certainly didn't have the grunt of what they did show the last few years, but Steep will certainly fill a nice niche for a good number of gamers. Here you have a gameplay video from the E3 demo, with another to follow soon.
Update: Second video is up.

it "looks" kinda eh visually, which i hope is a sign it's going to be VR compatible. because without that gimmick i'm thinking i'd probably get bored of this pretty quick.

It did look good alright but I hate to sound like a broken record here but lets just wait and see. It IS Ubisoft, hopefully the finished game will be close if not achieve to be the game they showed on Monday.

Well, that could just be to do with it being all white, snow being snow and all that. That's one of the things SSX did brilliantly back in the day with its art design. They added in colourful arrows on the track, ramps, and had colourful fireworks going off. There's nothing like that here in contrast to the sea of white and grey/brown.

yup, something that was missing from the reboot last gen too. i feel with snowboarding type games you either have to be one thing or the other. either amped levels of almost simulation, or SSX levels of crazy. middle ground doesn't seem to work very well. it's not realistic enough for the sim guys, and it's too boring looking for the arcade guys.

One thing, though, if this is VR compatible, then it'll immensely improve it as a game and an experience. The scale of those mountains and their height will be reflected to the player. It's perfect, because even 3rd person would still be suited to it. You get the same impression.

It's also not just snowboarding either though
Looks as though base jumping is included, which is a sport of it's own
Curious to see whether they've added other mountain sports as well or just the two

The trailer shows snowboarding, skiing, paragliding and wingsuit base jumping.
Very, very surprised if they don't have speed riding in there. Speed flying is kinda like paragliding except the canopy is smaller, faster but doesn't glide as much, meant for flying closer to the mountain at higher speeds. Speed riding is the same but with skis on, so you can get even closer.

About the game

What's up?
  • droezelke
droezelke @Tiz: It's about not knowing what will be in the lootcrate. That makes it possibly addictive. And EA went for pay-to-win. That is gambling. (5 minutes ago)
  • rayy
rayy @Tiz: Agree. People want to punish others well implement methods because of EA stupidity. (52 minutes ago)
  • Tiz
Tiz EA lost their minds and went full greed. $60 buy-in with P2W microtransactions, and an unholy grind? I'm not surprised by the pushback but it's impossible to tar everything with the same brush. (58 minutes ago)
  • Tiz
Tiz If you don't have the time but want the stuff, then you pay. If you do have the time and want the stuff, then you grind. (1 Hour ago)
  • Tiz
Tiz I think this whole thing is being blown out of proportion. EA over-stepped with BF2, but the method to unlocking stuff in most games is fine based on a time vs money scenario. (1 Hour ago)
  • droezelke
droezelke This is a stupid move by ESA. They are now distancing themselves more and more from their customers. They are spitting in their faces. Apparently the signal to EA wasn't clear enough. (1 Hour ago)
  • droezelke
droezelke And now Australia sees lootboxes as gambling. You know who doesn't? ESA, the entertainment software association which is EA, Activision, Ubisoft, Sony, Nintendo, MS... (1 Hour ago)
