Graphics are ok and all, nice destruction... BUT, to me it looks like it has "regressed" to a shooting gallery-type game :( you walk pretty much "on rails" through nicely set up environments and here and there pops up an enemy to shoot. much like the zombie games (forgot names) a few years back. mixed with a few in-engine cutscenes.
to me this doesn`t look very interesting. but maybe the first impression doesn`t do the game justice... i sure hope so :o/
Good facial details though, hopefully the emotive quality of the characters will carry this game along!
Shooting people and watching them crash into stuff looks insane though and I honestly think the game will be pretty intense.
I also saw a stage demo of Turok, on the topic of the Unreal Engine 3, and they said they'd modified the engine a ton and "invested lots in animation". Perhaps the tools for animation that come with UE3 are inherently rather lacking with the typical FPS spending very little resources on believable movement patterns. I mean as good as Gears looks it doesn't animate close to something like Sands of Time or Tomb Raider or Uncharted. Hopefully that's not a flaw that'll stick with the engine in the long term.
Anyway, yes, gameplay looks way cooler than the trailer with this game because you get a feel for the kind of weight enemies have when they're blown away by a shotgun blast. The rigid animation is unfortunate but I still think it'll turn out to be an enjoyable action romp.
Too many games this autumn though. It honestly cracked me up when watching the gamespot live feed and after the.. like.. 15th stage demo they were like "so when's this coming out?" and the answer was either nov, sep or august.
"Q4 2007" some said to mix things up a bit. :)
Why not give the character some mass and let the physics handle/inhibit some of his motions? His weightless twitching is both ridiculous and sad.
I'll still give them the benefit of the doubt but man, the guy could be a sprite and look just as rigid ffs.
I loved Max Payne 2 and even the original though I scolded them for not using Ragdolls in the first (idiotic, just as the stiff animations here).
I think somebody already mentioned that the bar has been raised and the graphics just look average now.
