E3: Stranglehold trailer

E3: Stranglehold trailer

The trailers keep coming with this time Stranglehold, a game that doesn't seem to have impressed as much as I thought it would at this E3.

this seems to have gotten less impressive than it initially looked.
Graphics are ok and all, nice destruction... BUT, to me it looks like it has "regressed" to a shooting gallery-type game :( you walk pretty much "on rails" through nicely set up environments and here and there pops up an enemy to shoot. much like the zombie games (forgot names) a few years back. mixed with a few in-engine cutscenes.

to me this doesn`t look very interesting. but maybe the first impression doesn`t do the game justice... i sure hope so :o/

That's the problem. The bar has been raised so far by recent releases that what was impressive 6 months ago is now merely 'on par'.

Good facial details though, hopefully the emotive quality of the characters will carry this game along!

This game seems to have been in development forever, yet I still don't care for it.

Yep, 'till the start I'm not impressed by that game... Don't know why, but the more I see of this game, the more I'm getting annoied. Perhaps this could change by playing it... But I do not really care for this one ^^

Yeah must admit, theres too much silly sliding and diving around that i feel will ruin this game!!!. Shame.

The animations let it down I reckon. Especially after seeing Uncharted, this robotic Max Payne style animation system just won't look particularly impressive. I saw a stage demo of it and when he's sliding on the ground and aiming at different things, his legs keep mechanically going back and forth in the same animation cycle as the rest of his body. EW!

Shooting people and watching them crash into stuff looks insane though and I honestly think the game will be pretty intense.

I also saw a stage demo of Turok, on the topic of the Unreal Engine 3, and they said they'd modified the engine a ton and "invested lots in animation". Perhaps the tools for animation that come with UE3 are inherently rather lacking with the typical FPS spending very little resources on believable movement patterns. I mean as good as Gears looks it doesn't animate close to something like Sands of Time or Tomb Raider or Uncharted. Hopefully that's not a flaw that'll stick with the engine in the long term.

Anyway, yes, gameplay looks way cooler than the trailer with this game because you get a feel for the kind of weight enemies have when they're blown away by a shotgun blast. The rigid animation is unfortunate but I still think it'll turn out to be an enjoyable action romp.

Too many games this autumn though. It honestly cracked me up when watching the gamespot live feed and after the.. like.. 15th stage demo they were like "so when's this coming out?" and the answer was either nov, sep or august.

"Q4 2007" some said to mix things up a bit. :)

I agree with lemetre, I think exactly the same about this game. Nothing but shooting stuff, looks a bit boring.

Boy, if there ever was a need for dynamic animations this is it (thats physics+preanimation=blended animation).

Why not give the character some mass and let the physics handle/inhibit some of his motions? His weightless twitching is both ridiculous and sad.

I'll still give them the benefit of the doubt but man, the guy could be a sprite and look just as rigid ffs.

I loved Max Payne 2 and even the original though I scolded them for not using Ragdolls in the first (idiotic, just as the stiff animations here).

They delayed this game, so freaking much it doesn't even matter no more.
I think somebody already mentioned that the bar has been raised and the graphics just look average now.
